The Twins are taking a bulldozer to their 40-man roster, clearing space for some minor leaguers who will need protection on the 40-man and perhaps some acquisitions. Rivas, Mays, LeCroy, Abernathy, Michael Ryan, Jason Tyner, and Glenn Williams were all removed from the roster. According to the Twins website, and the Strib LeCroy plans to try out free agency, and the club hopes to invite Tyner, Williams, and Abernathy to spring training. With LeCroy gone, the Twins need another righthanded bat more than ever, which raises the question--is Chili Davis still available?
EDIT: Last night Batgirl dreamt that she was watching a Reds game and Chili Davis stepped up to the plate. She was mighty surprised to see him still playing and a little embarrassed that she'd posted the above. But he looked hot.
Posted by Batgirl at October 7, 2005 09:01 PMAll this time I never realized that LeCroy was represented by Satan.
Posted by: Will Young at October 7, 2005 09:36 PMKind of hard to believe, isn't it?
Posted by: Batgirl at October 7, 2005 09:37 PMthis is all so hard to take. I hope Tyner, Williams, and Abernathy remain Twins property. Newmie is irreplaceable.
thank goodness I have hockey to distract me.
I am, however, waiting impatiently to hear of a certain bullpen member's departure... *glare*
Posted by: kafumbly at October 7, 2005 10:34 PMI'm nervous. I finally declare a NSMC...and now he's potentially gone?
That's just cold Twins. Straight up cold!
Posted by: Torhu at October 7, 2005 11:15 PMWell I'm sad about Mays more then LeCroy - I love Matthew - but - Joe was a good guy - great attitude - man - he just had Tommy John surgery -come on - Sigh...........
yeah what is such a good soul doing with Satan - Matthew - I am confused!
Oh and speaking of crawdads - the one thing that really sucks about living by yourself - is that you have to kill creepy crawlies - I just smooshed one that looked like a crawdad - I have no freaking idea where it came from -
OH NO we also lost our designated bug eater?!?! I don't see anyone that can really carry the torch!
Huh - well maybe we're clearing the number 25 for a certain left handed 1st baseman - that LOVES to hit at the Dome - =) A girl can dream right?!?!?!
Much Love

On the bright side, we still have Johan.
Posted by: Will at October 8, 2005 01:40 AMMATTHEW! How can you associate yourself with such an evil man?
This is all so saddening. I love Matthew and I'll miss him.
Posted by: Candace at October 8, 2005 01:41 AMI'm going to wear black until the madness ends.
Posted by: CarrieICL at October 8, 2005 06:41 AMI hate Joe Mays. Always have. Au revoir, chump.
(sorry, personal opinoin)
but, oh man! Poohbear!
"I hate Joe Mays. Always have. Au revoir, chump.
(sorry, personal opinoin)"
huh - that's fine - but that "Chump" was the only "Chump" that won a game in the ALCS against Anaheim - it was a masterpiece - 1-0 - I was there it was infact a-MAYS-ing
Have a good one

Posted by: Wonder Woman at October 8, 2005 10:04 AMI don't get the jokes about Satan managing LeCroy. I thought he owned the Yankees.
Posted by: Kurtis at October 8, 2005 10:51 AMSatan has many faces Kurtis, one of which is the Yankees owner, another of which is Scott Boras. The money sucking leeches are on both sides of the labor/owner divide.
Posted by: TBird41 at October 8, 2005 11:03 AMRemember that sick feeling in the pit of your stomach that came at the end of high school when you thought about how, as much as you swore you'd keep in touch, you knew there were some good friends that you would never see again?
Watching Piazza's season wind down was like that for me... I'd really like to see him come back for one or two more seasons in the hopes that we can put a ring on his finger, but I really don't think that's going to happen. I'll miss him (in a very manly and heterosexual kind of way).
But maybe I don't have to miss him so badly... he's a right-handed power hitter whose next job will almost definitely be as a DH... I know Pohl Pot's idea of a commitment to winning is sending in his Publisher's Clearinghouse sweepstakes entry and might not be willing to spend what someone like our beloved Mickey P's worth, but maybe you guys can start writing to your local papers and calling your local radio hosts and get some buzz going about how much Twins fans would love to see the most prolific home run-hitting catcher in history wearing a different set of pinstripes.
You'd get your big boom-boom vs. LHP and I'd get to continue loving him (in a very manly and heterosexual kind of way) vicariously through you guys.
Posted by: let's go mets at October 8, 2005 11:24 AMThere have been so many disappointing starts for Mays that it is hard to remember the All Star game and the win in the playoffs. Thanks WW for the gentle reminder.
At the start of this season I really thought Mays was going to have a great come back year. I always thought he could be a real solid #3. Its too bad it didn't work out. I bet he would take much less to stay with the Twins I just don't see where you put him in the rotation unless someone thinks Liriano isn't ready yet.
As for LeCroy or as my friend calls him "bug eater" I'm sure going to miss seeing him on the team. Great character guy and it seems like every year there is a funny story about him to entertain. As for the whole connection to the devil, its sad that a guy that seems so good can be linked to someone who is soooooo bad.
Posted by: caluofmn1991 at October 8, 2005 12:00 PMit'll be difficult to see lecroy leave..i'll never forget that game in the summer of 2004 that he won for us. it was a day game and i was at work. i had been following the game on the mlb gameday when i went down to the break room to get something to drink. by a stroke of luck the tv in the room there happened to be tuned to the twins game on espn (i forget who they were playing). and i'm just in time to see matt absolutely destroy a pitch and bid it adieu for a walk off grand slam.
it's too bad there weren't more moments like that.
who would have thought boras represented a husky bug snacking south carolinian?
i'd like to see us sign Mays for 1 year @ a million or so if possible. they say season 2 after tommy john is when things fall back into place. but that probably won't happen. too bad - he was a good shit.
Posted by: branimal at October 8, 2005 03:39 PMwhoa whoa whoa. lets not get too upset over Joe "one good season that handicapped our payroll for the next five long ones" Mays.
I'm not trying to be a jerk, I love you guys, but he damn well better have a good attitude when you're making that kind of scratch to be utterly hopeless on the mound.
As for Lecroy... good luck with that. He was definitely a cool guy and yes, he ate bugs.
However, if you cant even be a regular on arguably the worst hitting team in the majors even the devil himself probably kind find you that great of a job.
-just had to get all that off my chest-
GO GOPHERS
I too would like to see Mays back next year--maybe in the old man (spot starter) role. The second year after TJohn surgery is the good year. Maybe Twins can sign him for 6 (not 7) figures and bring him back. Dont understand Tyner and Abernathy--Tyner hit is something like 13 games in a row--good leadoff type with speed and defense.
I too will miss Newmie.
Posted by: DC Twins Fan at October 8, 2005 05:30 PMDear readers,
Tyner and Abner are not gone, necessarily, they're just not being protected. They've got to make room for people like Span, etc, who will need to be protected on the 40-man this year. Giving how much people are willing to pay for pitching, I think Joe will find himself with a very nice contract somewhere.
Sincerely,
Batgirl
I always thought that LeCroy had great potential and should have been used more. I'm gonna miss and singing and dancing. And not to mention that beetle he ate for $500!.
Posted by: Rivasfan at October 8, 2005 07:02 PMDearest Ovie -
Joe Mays' good attitude began way before this season and way before he signed that huge contract - he's never been a jerk - he's taken his lumps - so if wanna be upset - I will be - as far as I'm concerned - I wish more athlete's had the attitude that Joe Mays owns.
Dearest Cal1991
You're welcome

Noooooo!!! Don't take away Bubba LeCroy. I love Bubba. We will miss you, Bubba.
Sincerely, Georgia Girl
Posted by: Georgia Girl at October 9, 2005 05:41 PMDear Wonder Woman
The #25 you are speaking of makes around 16 million a season, for the next 3 years, has a no trade clause, a real bad back, and appears to be off "the juice". I'm sure his current team would be real happy to give him to you for a batting tee and cleet demudder, if there is such a thing
mike
Posted by: mike at October 9, 2005 11:12 PMWow! Women with good taste like their Chili! I once was at a Yankee game and this girl was cheering loudly for Chili Davis. Based on that I struck up a conversation with her and wound up going on a few dates with her. Viva la Chili!
Posted by: Pittsburgh_Mike at October 10, 2005 10:38 AMIf Chili won't come back, can we please have Tony Clark? Please?
Posted by: hrunting at October 10, 2005 04:13 PMTony Clark would be wonderful.
I remember one time when LeCroy scored from first on an extra base hit. I almost cried from laughter.
Posted by: Karl at October 10, 2005 07:41 PMDear Mike -
No really - thanks for telling this 'dumb' girl - really I know absolutely nothing about baseball- thanks for enlightning me
I don't believe he ever was on the juice - I can't prove it can you prove that he was?????
I can think of a few teams that would take him for even half a season -
