B.O.D.

This is a very, very difficult decision. The President of the United States of Batgirl was hot with a capital K. Thirteen strikeouts and two hits through 8 innings, then two more in the ninth. And if he had gotten the complete game shutout, BG would give it to him without question. But Batgirl really, really, really likes to encourage Dr. Morneau to hit homers, because it does make the team so very much better when he does. Today's two run dinger put the Twins on the board, gave them the lead, and ended up being the winning run. So, after much agony and with a huge deep soulful B.O.D.S.H.C. kiss, Batgirl is giving Dr. Morneau the Boyfriend of the Day.

As stated in the game thread, I applaud this decision and appreciate the enormous effort it took to make it. Viva la BODSHC!

Well I woulda gone with Johan... but then I was a pitcher so that's where my bias lies. Can't argue too much with any effort to motivate the good Dr. though. (If it works, however, won't you be kicking yourself all offseason for not awarding the Doc more BODs early in the season?

Well.....the doc gets first consideration anyway, right? Since he is one of the Team Batgirl boyfriends? Johan isn't a team BG bf, is he?

Posted by: NYBrian at September 17, 2005 02:36 PM

boy, if you coulda seen Johan field that grounder and DIVE after Ozuna, tagging him out on the leg and scuffing up his right elbow in the process, the decision woulda been that much harder, BG. wow. if that doesn't make a top play of the day on Sports Center, I'll be surprised. (it should also make the scariest play of the day and the "Johan, are you crazy?!" play of the day.)

however, they played Wild power play music after Justin's home run, so for sure... Doc for BOD!

Posted by: kafumbly at September 17, 2005 02:58 PM

Yeah, fumbly, that play looked pretty awesome (yet super scary for johan) from the cheap seats. i personally think that jason tyner deserves at least some acknowledgement for being fabulous! but the doc was fabulous!

Posted by: Hannah! at September 17, 2005 03:14 PM

I totally agree with kafumbly. Man, that tag was an AWESOME, awesome play, and that in itself put Mr. Johan K. Santana at the top of my list for BOD. I was asking myself the whole way home if it would be Johan or Justin, and I must say that I'm surprised at the final outcome. Nothing against Justin getting BOD, that homer was gorgeous! (So was Cuddyer's, for that matter, just because he actually hit one *smiles*)

Yes, Tyner had a good day, I agree. Kudos to him as well.

Posted by: FordHoiberg at September 17, 2005 03:19 PM

That play was terrifying. Terrifying. but oh so hot. And how cool was Tyner? But Morneau. Oh. I am glad I did not have to make this decision.

And how about a runner-up honorable mention for the Veep, who wrote the storybook ending to the whole thing? Bases loaded, no outs -- no problem! Holy smoke!

Bella and I agree that we rank this up with the very best we've seen at the Metrodome.

Let's not forget honorary mentions for Jason Tyner's most sexy two-run triple.

Lest we also not forget Joe Nathan's god-like close?

Posted by: Torhu at September 17, 2005 05:12 PM

Dear Batlings,

This is all absolutely right. Tyner and Nathan both deserve, and got, BOD consideration. And Mauer for starting at 11am.

Basically, a lot of the boys were mad hot today.

Sincerely,
Batgirl

Santana's little dive and tag move was awesome but scary. It does not need to be rewarded because he should never do that again. Justin supplied all the runs Johan needed, so he deserves BOD. However, had Tyner not slid into third base and instead continued home, I would have had to give it to him. He's speedy.

Just got back from the game (Rochester :P). I think this one deserves a comic. One with many Ks...

Oh and I managed to get a few signatures today - Lewwwwwwwwwwww, Kyle, Scottie Baker, Shaggy Guerrier, and Jesse Crain for starters :D

Johan Santana is now my non-sexual man crush

Posted by: DhruvK at September 17, 2005 06:51 PM

...Grrrr.

Cuddyer's homer was right over my head in the 4th row. Had they actually shown replays online I probably could see myself.

...Oh, and they didn't show a replay of Santana's sliding tag. Which sucks, cause all the action was on the side not facing the outfield.

Still cool though :)

Beautifully symmetrical game today: El Presidente starts with striking out the side just to set the tone.....and the VEEP ends it by striking out the side - with the bases loaded and no outs! Quite the bookends!

I agree with the sentiment of "Great play at first, Johan!....and never do it again!" I really thought the stars would be with us today - 6 years ago, nearly to the date a no hitter was accomplished at an 11 AM game and today Santana really looked like he had that kind of stuff, but it wasn't to be.......Pretty good, anyway! (As a Minnesotan would say!)

Batgirl and fellow Batlings,

For those of you not at the dome (and who were unable to watch the nonexistent broadcast), the comic is up! Click my name to access it!

BG I have a small-size version for you if you would like to post it.

Enjoy!

GOD
Girl-friend of the day is definitely Laurel, who got married today before the game. I stopped in to wish her well, and may I say her group had the most awesome SANTANA sign. Kevin, her now husband had a very cool baseball hat that read very helpfully, "Groom".
It can only bode well for her union that the Twins played a totally complete game today. Some of us who were sitting near young children had to restrain ourselves from yelling, "Sit down, bitches!" as the strike outs piled up! Ah, a thing of beauty - the bride and the win!

oh, yeah, Tyner! it looked like Newmie was waving him around third at first, but then held him up. I think if Tyner had gone full speed the whole way, he would have made it home. wow. fantastic.

and Jesse Crain was at Cub Foods after the game for an appearance thinger, and I saw him, and we talked hockey for a bit because I wore my Wild t-shirt under my Twins jersey, as I was headed to the Wild game right after. *sigh* he's an Avs fan. but that's not as bad as Doctor Morneau, who is a Canucks fan. *shakes head sadly* I guess we can't all be perfect, Doc.

Posted by: kafumbly at September 18, 2005 01:12 AM

With Tyner, at first Newmie held him up, so he slid in, but then Newmie started waving him home, had he been on his feet, he totally would have made it home. But he was going on the first sign he saw which was a stop sign.

It was still mad hot.

Posted by: aurora at September 18, 2005 09:07 AM

I know Kafumbly! It's terrible. We need to knock some sense into those boys. Why don't you work on Jesse for us, and I'll see what I can do about Curly Locks?

What's Doctor Love doing October 5th? I'd gladly escort him to the Wild home opener. [insert wicked Babs smilie here]

Cool. That's taken care of then. Thanks, wc.
