It was a save situation, since the bases were loaded and no one out when he came in. I think a save situation is when the tying run is in the hole or on deck when the pitcher comes on. Someone who is smarter than me may know the exact definition.

Clearing up the save situation.

One of the following conditions must be met:

-He comes into the game with a lead of no more than three runs, and pitches the remainder of the game, gaining at least one out.

-He comes into the game with the potential tying run being either on base, at bat, or on deck. In other words, the potential tying run is either already on base or is one of the first two batters he faces.

-He pitches at least three "effective" innings (this is the only subjective criterion and is judged by the official scorer).

In retrospect, that probably just made saves more complicated. Oh well.

While we're at it, can you clarify the golden sombrero designation? Jermaine Dye struck out the required 4 times, but three were to Johan, one to Nathan. Does the same pitcher have to get all four Ks?
