Yeah I got a comment. Why does your team's building have a symbol of hate on its roof? What is wrong with people in Minnesota? I cannot be the only one who's noticed this thing.

Ha ha. . .awesome!

Now, can we please get Francisco Liriano on the big club too, please? I can't take any more of Lohse and Mays going out there every 5 days to get their butts handed to them.

Giggles abound - thanks Batgirl - and for not frying Lew =)

Much love

BatKitty Blackheads?!?!?!!
NOOOOOOO

Yet another sign that the offense has been struggling: with his double tonight Lew Ford supplanted Torii Hunter as the doubles leader of the Twins.

P.S. It's been 35 games since Hunter hit a two-bagger. Yikes.

I dont know if this is intentional or not, but I hope not.
Sildenfil Citrate is the active ingredient of Viagra. I'm sure there's a great sass-related comment to make here, but it escapes me at the moment, so I will leave it at that.

Posted by: serial thrilla at August 29, 2005 10:47 PM

Love the ad, BG... but you do know that there's not a very big chance that sildenafil citrate will have the side effect of sexual dysfunction, seeing as that's the chemical name for Viagra. ;) And I don't want *any* chemicals endorsed by Palmiero getting near our boys!

Posted by: aussie at August 29, 2005 10:48 PM

aaaand serial thrilla beat me to it. nice catch, s.t.

Posted by: aussie at August 29, 2005 10:50 PM

By the way,
Tony Gwynn HIMSELF was doing color commentary on the ESPN feed. We can only hope he was pleased.

Posted by: Scotty_Dawg at August 29, 2005 10:52 PM

aussie-

I'm not sure if I should be proud or ashamed. At least I wasn't the only one to notice....

Posted by: serial thrilla at August 29, 2005 10:54 PM

baker = superhawtstudmuffin.

Posted by: Renae at August 29, 2005 10:57 PM

The last slide was definitely my biggest laugh of the day. Well done, BG!!

Posted by: Nick at August 29, 2005 11:04 PM

Apparently Baker just had a baby boy, Elijah, recently, so congratulations to him. What's this I hear about Bent Wookies? We can't be having any of that!

Posted by: Hannah (the second) at August 29, 2005 11:10 PM

The Landed Gentry are the cure.

Well done Mr. Nathan.

It ain't over yet.

Um, Aaron... it would help greatly if you linked to a picture that doesn't require a login. Like the one you get to by clicking my name.

Butterflies, flowers, puppies, and Scott Baker...things that make me very happy. And much easier to spell than Ambiorix.

Aaron,

There are many Twins fans that want a new stadium. The swastika in the roof, in the grand scheme of things, would be well down past the Afterthoughts portion of the list.

On the optomistic side, although the look was likely unintentional, perhaps the designers wished to pay homage to Eastern tradition?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika

Helpfully,

MK

Posted by: mk at August 29, 2005 11:52 PM

Ahem. When I say "the list", the would be the list of reasons to want a new stadium instead of the Metrodome.

Posted by: mk at August 29, 2005 11:53 PM

to add to hannah (the second)'s comment, i could have swore that i read somewhere his little boy's name was ian. oh well, it doesn't matter...he had a great game :)

nice ad, BG! :)

Does anyone else see the irony of a Philly fan coming here and going on about "hate?"

Aren't they the people that booed Santa Claus and cheered when a player at the Vet was laying on the turf, possibly paralyzed?

Posted by: Gonzo at August 30, 2005 05:28 AM

"Aren't they the people that booed Santa Claus and cheered when a player at the Vet was laying on the turf, possibly paralyzed?"

The player in question would be Michael Irvin, and yes, they did. That remains why to this day Philly fans are the only ones I actually hate.

Posted by: IcePhoenix at August 30, 2005 06:21 AM

If Bret Boone is one of the side effects, I think I'll pass. At some point you have to ask yourself if the side effects are worth the trouble. In this case I'll say they aren't.

Posted by: ndtf at August 30, 2005 07:39 AM

hey guys, lay off the philly guy. you'd be frustrated too if you'd have traded the Jackal and reigning BOD LNP for something called Eric Milton. Not the Milty we used to know, either but rather some sort of BP tossing clone of the Eric we once knew.... ahh, memories.

Posted by: Ovie at August 30, 2005 08:38 AM

i was laughing out loud after the first slide - i so knew what was coming. even so, it kept getting funnier and funnier. thanks BG, you made my day.

Did anyone else notice the new advertiser during last night's game on FSN -- an inpatient psychiatric facility in Fargo? Has it come to that? : )

Posted by: RonDavis at August 30, 2005 09:03 AM

Apparently they distribute the City Pages in Philly:

http://citypages.com/databank/26/1276/article13291.asp

The swastika is a simple enough pattern to pick out of many geometric designs. The Microsoft Windows logo, for example, has also excited a certain amount of paranoid conspiracy theories, and you can find swastikas on any number of Greek vases and tessellated floors.

For all we know, the Metrodome roof swastika was no accident at all, but a covert plot by the designers to bring good fortune to the local teams by waving the ancient Hindu symbol of good luck.

I think that pitcher is almost as cute as the puppies that preceded him. How old is he?

Posted by: Redbird at August 30, 2005 10:13 AM

Dear Redbird:

The Twins website lists his DOB a 9/19/81. So that makes him, what?, almost 24.

He did a nice job last night. I hope to see more of him.

Scott Baker is my non-sexual man crush

And yes you can put that on a shirt - I'll wear it :D

Posted by: DhruvK at August 30, 2005 10:56 AM

Hurray good pitching! That is what the team has been missing all year!

Posted by: soccerfan at August 30, 2005 11:36 AM

Dear k-bro,

Thanks for the info. He's actually a bit older than I would have thought from that picture. But if he can keep pitching well, it doesn't really matter anyway.

Redbird

Posted by: Redbird at August 30, 2005 12:11 PM

HA HA... Ambiorix. good good stuff.
I was shocked to see KC on ESPN last night.
shocked.
at least we didn't get blown out.
have you noticed? we started a new losing streak.
it's up to FOUR...!
Wheeeee!

While it is possible to pick out that particular symbol from the dome CEILING, the ROOF would have no such symbol. On the roof, it would be backwards. I can only conclude that the dome's designers wanted to convey that we are the antithesis of Nazi Germany to the viewers who would see the blimp shots of the dome during gameday broadcasts.

"Aren't they the people that booed Santa Claus and cheered when a player at the Vet was laying on the turf, possibly paralyzed?"

For the record, the Santa Claus in question was a drunk, skinny, no beard guy dancing around Franklin Field, which by the way there was like 10 inches of snow for that game that the city didn't clear. This was in 1968 or 69 before the Vet was open. If you would have seen him you would have thrown a snowball at him too.

The eagles that year were bad so bad that if they would have lost that game, they would have finished with the worst record in football and thus would have gotten the rights to an alleged double murderer named OJ, who before he was a crazed killer was a good football player. They won the game and lost the coin toss and din't get OJ.

Michael Irvin was a total showboat. No one at the Vet had any idea of how hurt he was, including myself, and we booed joyously, because Irvin was a dallas cowboy, and we don't like dallas cowboys.

Irvin himself has said more then once that if he was the stands that day he would have cheered too and he understands and loves the passion of football fans in Philly, even though they hate him.

And yes Philly booed Schmidt, the only ones that played there never to get booed were Doc, Reggie, Clarke (player not gm), and Bernie Parent.

There doesn't seem to be any better place to put this, but I'd like the assembled cadre of Batlings to join me in wishing a happy 26th to Luis Rivas, who is hitting .300 in Rochester in the month of August and hit his first homer of 2005 just the other day.

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at August 30, 2005 05:37 PM

soccerfan, what are you talking about? the pitching is the only thing that's been consistently good all year! well, except for those couple of games about a month ago. but other than those FEW games, they've been lights out. oh, and except for Joe Mays. but other than THAT...

Posted by: kafumbly at August 30, 2005 10:07 PM

Dearest Ms. Fumbly,

I believe soccerfan was being ironic.

Love,
BG
