A close personal friend of Batgirl's has an essay on Salon.com about coping with the Sox's domination of the AL Central.

Posted by Batgirl at August 8, 2005 11:48 PMThis, um, friend is so giftedly witty!
Now excuse me while I go make up another batch of adverbs...
Posted by: kojak at August 9, 2005 12:50 AMBG obviously hangs out with a great group of writers ;)
Posted by: Stacy at August 9, 2005 01:12 AMWhat would the undergraduate Comparative Literature majors say about this?
"Patroclean Second-Self"?
"Kryptonian Alter Ego"?
"Grayson-esque Ward-like posturing"?
"Your Mauer Jersey gives you a rash"?

Oh, it's going to be a long winter.
Posted by: frightwig at August 9, 2005 07:02 AMI'm still in denial, quite frankly...
Posted by: CarrieICL at August 9, 2005 08:03 AMThere is no such this as acceptance. Even on December 1st.
Batgirl has some very talented close, personal friends.
Posted by: Just Beth at August 9, 2005 08:15 AMI think I'm still somewhere in the "bargaining" stage.
Posted by: ndtf at August 9, 2005 08:47 AMThat's right; there's two months of baseball still to play! Personally, I'm still in the bargaining phase too. I have a half bag of Sour Skittles and a company coffee mug that I swiped, err, borrowed in front of me. Do you think that's enough to get TR to sent Romero to Rochester? How about if I throw in my "treasured" yellow highlighter?

Great job :-) Esp. because I've been having this ongoing debate about the word "hate" with a friend lately. I think it's appropriate for athletic enterprises.
Posted by: tim in tampa at August 9, 2005 10:02 AMBatgirl, you're friend is a wonderful writer.
Now, can someone please untie me?
Posted by: King Kaufman at August 9, 2005 10:53 AMUh, "your"
Posted by: King Kaufman at August 9, 2005 10:53 AMNice article by your friend! :)
I'm still in denial.
Not sure if that's a good or bad thing?
BG: you're the bomb. I couldn't have said it any better myself. those GFWS must be stopped; don't deny your hatred!

When the Twins come back, I'll let you go.
Love,

Assbats and assgloves... there may be a solution... just remember to leave Romero in the trailer...

Posted by: YankeeFan at August 9, 2005 11:41 AMClick my name for interesting news.
Apparently Darth Thomas's days are numbered with the Sox Empire.
Posted by: Torhu at August 9, 2005 12:53 PMWhile we're at it...click my name now for an article in which *somehow* the White Sox are managing to Bitch. Even though they hold the best record in the game, and a comfortable lead in the AL Central.
Man, they're never happy...and calling all the other teams "minor leagues" is just plain stupid.
Here's hoping this hotstreak leads to an even more flaming crash next year. Ungreatful Bitch Soxs...
Posted by: Torhu at August 9, 2005 01:00 PMDear torhu,
I am always happy, as you know, to look for Bitch Sox bitching, but in this particular case, it seems that the "minor leagues" is what they're saying OTHER people are saying. Sort of like when the Twins were winning, it matter unless they could beat Yankees and Boston. What do you think?
Curiously,
BG
BG, that's how I interpreted it, too.
But it IS a bit ironic, since for the past few years it's been the Bitch Sox themselves who claimed that the Twins winning the division didn't really mean anything since it was a weak division, and that they would only regard the Twins as a "good" team if they could get out of the first round of the playoffs (i.e., beat the Yankees or the Red Sox). Guess it's a little different when it's you they're disrespecting, huh, Ozzie?
Posted by: Word Smith at August 9, 2005 01:14 PMAh yes. I see it now. I'm reading this during breaks at work, so please forgive misunderstandings that may come with a rush lead.
But hey, look at this way. Now that the Sox are the ones on top, you don't hear the Twins calling them a fluke do you?
Torii and those guys seem to respect the year the Sox are having, and I bet will be "rooting" for them as a fellow member of the AL Central.
When the shoe's on the other foot, the Sox fail to see the irony. I agree with Word Smith.
Whatever the case...it's still bitching ;)
Posted by: TOrhu at August 9, 2005 01:21 PMTrue dat WS.
I don't like the Aaron Rowand part though since he's a CF and it sounds like Ozzie is saying that Torii is only winning because of his hitting?
I hear ya there T-Mac.
"Like I said the other day, Aaron Rowand should be a Gold Glove candidate," Guillen said. "The Gold Glove has been going to the most popular players who hit the most, but this kid is a great defensive player." - Ozzie Guillen.
Makes you wonder how Dougie ever managed to win one, eh Ozz? He was never really known as a "slugging first baseman"
Also, I thought the Gold Glove always stood for both defensive and offensive play. Sort of giving the love to the guys who've been contributing not just with the bat, but the glove as well.
Posted by: Torhu at August 9, 2005 01:45 PMDear Mr. Torhu,
The Gold Glove is supposed to be for defense alone.
Helpfully,
BG
Aaron Rowland is a fine defensive CF. He's just unlucky enough to be in the same league with Torii.
Or rather, to NOT be in the same league with Torii, because no one really is.
I say this completely objectively. Really.
Thanks BG. Wasn't too sure on how it worked.
Posted by: Torhu at August 9, 2005 02:45 PMThe Gold Glove is supposed to be for defense alone, but everyone knows it often goes to a player who first made an impression with his bat. Dougie had a pretty good year at the plate when he won his GG in 2001. The next year, his play in the field was as exemplary, but he got screwed out of the award, possibly because his bat went limp and John Olerud was a better all-around player.
Rowand could win a GG even with Hunter in his league. The voters just have to take the award away from Vernon Wells.
Posted by: frightwig at August 9, 2005 03:18 PMBG,
I was beginning to get concerned about your friend, until she got to step five. Carry on!
MK
Posted by: mk at August 9, 2005 03:28 PMGold Gloves are defense only. Ozzie won like 13 in a row and he had some terrible offensive years in there, still one of the best players I ever saw play. I loved Ozzie, in a NSMC kind of way.
Posted by: mike at August 9, 2005 03:45 PMDear Mr. Mike,
Ozzie is BG's HOF boyfriend. Her softball glove was an Ozzie Smith glove.
Sincerely,
BG
Dear BG
I still have my Kirby Puckett baseball glove, which I now use for softball. Maybe its time for a Jeter.
Comparingly
mike.
GGs are *supposed* to be for defensive skills only. However, witness Rafael Palmiero's GG win (beating an incredible fielding year by Tino) even though Raffy DH'd most of the season (spent what, like 19 games at first?)
And now, even the plate prowess has been called into quesation :)
Bitterly,
YankeeFan
Had to rub my eyes and double-check. Batgirl on Salon.com! Two of my favorite web stops in the same juicy morsel. Did ya'll catch King's take on the Dome and Twins attendance back on Aug 5th? Click his name above to view the story.
