Gardy has apologized extensively for Monday's tirade about umpire Hunter Wendelstedt, but Batgirl felt it was extremely important that everyone know what he's apologizing for. Fortunately, the KQRS morning show got a recording of the whole thing.
Here's the clip from KQRS. (It's their DJs laughing.) Please note that Gardy weaves an exquisite tapestry of obscenities. Thank you ever so much to Batling Nick for making the file.
UPDATE: Team Batgirl has now put Gardy's comments to a groovy dance beat!
Posted by Batgirl at July 19, 2005 11:59 PMGardy kind of over-reacted about the whole deal, but I still love him. The ump was wrong on the chairman's hight, he's six foot four not three, but I won't be picky here. I'm glad Gardy apologized, now we can get back to the game we know and love.
Posted by: Hannah at July 20, 2005 12:08 AMDear Batlings,
It is important to note that Gardy has a long history with Wendelstedt. He made some horrid calls in an early September Bitch Sox series in '03, the taste of which is still in Batgirl's mouth.
Helpfully,
Batgirl
Wow....this is seriously entertaining. The way Gardy went about it wasn't right, but I can totally totally understand why he went off like that. I don't care for Wendelstedt either. I groan and throw my hands up in frustration whenever he's the ump for our games.
But, Go Gardy! :)
Posted by: Candace at July 20, 2005 12:32 AMI'd like to add that it was quite amusing listening to Nick curse Wendelstedt through the whole game on Monday. [just listened to the clip] heh... wow. Nick wasn't quite as bad as Gardy, though. you go, Gardy!
if he ever leaves, I will cry my heart out. I want Gardy to be the Twins manager forever.
Posted by: kafumbly at July 20, 2005 12:53 AMWow. That wasn't a tirade, that was art!
Posted by: mk at July 20, 2005 02:28 AMNick's comments in 214 about Wendelstedt were amusing. Gardy topped that. The way Gardy went about his complaining was wrong, but in the heat of the moment, we don't all always think the wisest. At least he recognized it was wrong and apologized. Wendelstedt's never going to like us, but it would be nice if he could play fair.

Gardy, funk soul brutha! Hilarity!
I'm gonna have that one stuck in my head all the damn day.
Posted by: TwinsGoddess at July 20, 2005 07:57 AMMad props Gardy, Mad props.
(and Gardy was so right here-Wendlestadt changed the zone on Mauer and all Gardy did was say something--then boom! Bye Bye Gardy--I'd be mad too)
Posted by: TBird41 at July 20, 2005 08:27 AMbatgirl continues to amaze: writer extraordinaire and now BGDJ! a sassy lass, indeed!!
Posted by: boo! at July 20, 2005 08:45 AMYou can dance to that!
Posted by: Jeb at July 20, 2005 09:18 AMI'll admit I was shakin' my boo-tay a bit to the Batgirl re-mix!
I have more love for Gardy after finally hearing the tirade, and I have a whole new respect for Gardy's wife. I can only imagine the steam still coming out of his ears when he got home.
I can't help but giggle though. . .Poor Gardy, he's done nothing but battle the Umps and he gets so worked up. I bet he's got Bob Watson's number on speed dial.
Posted by: HooliganKat at July 20, 2005 09:36 AMI don't know what I love Gardy more for - the well deserved tirade or his willingness to take one for the team by making an apology he clearly was doing only out of pragmatic concern for the team.
Hunter Wendlestad. Remember that name folks. Treat him with all possible derision the next time he comes to the dome.
What can be done by fans to an umpire that is legal, not going to cause a forfeit and yet obnoxious, unnerving and even a little mean?
Suggestions?
Posted by: BadAndy48 at July 20, 2005 10:14 AMIt's true, Gardy has made the tirade an art form. He's not quite up to the level of Bobby Knight, but if Wendelsteldt sticks around he may get there.
Posted by: brent at July 20, 2005 10:44 AMSo, the question is, did anyone see anybody wearing bunny ears at the game last night?
Posted by: heraldguy at July 20, 2005 10:49 AMI didn't see any on TV, but the "Walks will haunt" guys were hilarious.
Posted by: Saajak at July 20, 2005 10:55 AMI think Heraldguy's got it, BadAndy! Could we get 30,000 people to wear bunny ears?
Unfortunately that would probably be unnerving to everyone, not just the umpire in question.
Posted by: Word Smith at July 20, 2005 10:56 AMI sent the file to my dad at his work and he and all his co-workers gathered around to listen. He said he laughed his ass off the entire time. Nothing like a little rant to start off the workday...

Posted by: closetJaysfan at July 20, 2005 11:00 AMYes, HG... there was a guy wearing Bunny Ears about 5 rows in front of Kristie and I at the game last night. I figured that it was commentary on the Gardy/Ump commotion. *GRIN* And I enjoyed it immensely.
Posted by: CapitalBabs at July 20, 2005 11:08 AMi think Gardy hit the nail on the head (although he could have left out a few swear words). the call was garbage, he baited him from the dugout, Gardy kept fairly cool (by his standards), and then got tossed. the ump baiting him and saying Gardy wanted showtime (im assuming that's true, considering how peeved Gardy is) is pretty unprofessional, so i dont blame him for being upset.
Posted by: TeeNutts at July 20, 2005 11:12 AMBatgirl, will you be starting a "trade rumors" comment section? we had one on a good roll yesterday. just wondering if you were going to start an official Batgirl one. unless you already have and i've missed it?
Posted by: TeeNutts at July 20, 2005 11:14 AMWell, it looks as if the Bitch Sox and the Twins share an undying enmity towards Hunter Wendelstedt. He just can't help but meddle in our division race by blowing calls for both our teams.
Maybe Ozzie and Gardy should get together on this?
How does he tick everyone off so? How many expletive filled rants can be directed towards Mr. Wendelstedt in one season? Ok. Maybe Oakland likes him, but that's about it.
Posted by: MikeQ at July 20, 2005 11:22 AMMy cartoon bubble sees Dick Clark and two acne-laden teens after dancing to the Gardi-Mix. Groovy beat, but, damn, I just couldn't dance to it, says the boy. Hi-friggin-larious. Kudos to Team BG.
Posted by: oh at July 20, 2005 12:37 PMThe comics return. View.
Posted by: lem at July 20, 2005 01:27 PMI remember during the Yankees playoff series last fall, Gardenhire mentioned that he really liked one of the songs played over the PA system. I think it was "I Like the Way You Move" by Outkast.
Gardy has a little soul. He likes the nightlife. He loves to boogie. I think he would love the groovy dance beat.
Posted by: NIH at July 20, 2005 01:33 PMI love the song...Gardy is great I love when managers get soo fired up...T.K. was never much for that, that is why I love Gardy!!
Posted by: Mohrfan13 at July 20, 2005 05:11 PMWhat a SCREAM! Gardy'll be in my head all day! Showtime.......
Posted by: insider at July 21, 2005 08:34 AMThis is late as I was out of town but OMG I can't stop laughing!! Bunny ears all around! Love it! Gardy rocks my world
