I just chipped in about 120 votes.

Make sure you change emails every 25 votes.

Keep it rollin' people.

Posted by: Eric at July 6, 2005 01:35 PM

15000 and counting. And I'm telling the honest to God truth.

Posted by: Candace at July 6, 2005 01:40 PM

Dearest Ms. Candace,

If by some miracle Torii gets in, he owes you a big smooch.

Yours,
BG

THAT'S NOT VOTING TORII!

Where's the flaming banana when we need it!

But I have spent a great deal of the day voting! yay!

Posted by: Mic at July 6, 2005 02:15 PM

Do they not count after 25 on the same email address? Mine kept going through, I don't want to be wasting precious time by submitting false votes for Sweetcheeks.

Posted by: HooliganKat at July 6, 2005 02:18 PM

Dear Ms. Kat,

BG saw nothing in the guidelines about a limit to the number of votes. She believes you can vote as much as you want. Does Mr. Eric have different information?

Sincerely,
BG

Posted by: Batgirl at July 6, 2005 02:20 PM

In the regular voting, when you vote for the starters, they clearly list that you can only vote 25 times per email.

But with this, there is literally nothing.

So, I don't think there is any limit. And besides, they tell you to vote as much and as often as you want or can.

So, if there was a limit, and no one said anything, it would be misleading and MLB would be lying. And now that's not very nice.

Posted by: Candace at July 6, 2005 02:33 PM

I have recruited my buddy in Seattle to vote for Sweetcheeks =)

He's a good guy and loves Torii so Torii will get some votes from a Mariners fan

Much love

Candace - you are AMAZING!!

Posted by: Wonder Woman at July 6, 2005 02:47 PM

Yes, it was stated in an interview two days ago with one of the players that was pleading for votes that a Player's Union rep told him they would only count the first 25 from each address.

Take it for what it's worth...

Posted by: Eric at July 6, 2005 02:51 PM

I just heard on the pre-game show that Sweetcheeks is in second, behind Podsednik.

Posted by: ndtf at July 6, 2005 02:55 PM

Dear Mr. Eric,

Interesting, but BG agrees with your "take it for what its worth." It seems it would have to be in the rules somewhere. Still, it can't hurt to change addresses, but I would also not despair about your already cast votes.

Yours,
BG

Posted by: Batgirl at July 6, 2005 02:56 PM

I voted for Podsednik.

(Ducks.)

I'd like to see
a) Torii get the rest
b) Jeter to not win (when I voted, he was ahead of Pods with Torii third)
c) The AL central get some respect
d) Podsednik not get the rest
e) Baserunners get props. Pods is more pure speed than Torii.
f) ESPN's quickie be a force.

All pushed me to vote for Podsednik.
He's still a humble Brewer to me.

Posted by: amr at July 6, 2005 03:07 PM

amr-

You say you want _baserunners_ to get props?

Pods is a track star, Torii is a baserunner.

Pods may have the speed, but ESPN already decreed Torii the Ultimate Baserunner.

Posted by: Eric at July 6, 2005 03:10 PM

I think everyone needs to think about JOe BUck and Tim McCarver. If Jeter isn't there, who's ass will they kiss unmercifully ?

Posted by: mike at July 6, 2005 03:16 PM

Mike -

In place of jeter - I say the will kiss up to A-Rod

Posted by: Wonder Woman at July 6, 2005 03:23 PM

Buck and McCarver can still talk about Jete's Grand Slam that they got to call. And maybe about how Jetes was wronged, and that X shouldn't be there if he's taking Jeter's spot.

Posted by: amr at July 6, 2005 03:24 PM

Dear Mr. Mike,

And they can show pictures of Jeter and hold Jeter bobbleheads close to them while they announce! They'll be fine.

Yours,
BG

Posted by: Batgirl at July 6, 2005 03:27 PM

lets be honest. They'll talk about Jeter even if he's not there.

Vote torii just to see that big beautiful smile of his. It's not like he'll play much (maybe an inning or two) and the odds of needing to put forth much effort are low. If nothing else, vote to put Minnesota back on the map. we could have 3 all-stars!!!

Yay for stuffing the ballot box and harrassing my friends into voting instead of doing my French assignment. Good luck Torii!

Posted by: closetJaysfan at July 6, 2005 05:51 PM

Oh, and could someone please tell me how to check who's winning? I haven't been able to figure that out.

Thanks a bunch,
CJF

Posted by: closetJaysfan at July 6, 2005 06:00 PM

Drew hit it dead on. For all the talk about how Kenny Rogers distracts from the All-Star Game...it'll be even more distracting when the whole broadcast is spent whining about the lack of Jeter.

Seriously...if he's not voted in...they'll FIND a way to get him in. Even if they have to put out a hit on Migeul Tejada to free up the spot at SS.

Posted by: Torhu at July 6, 2005 06:10 PM

cJf - According to MLB.com it's now Posednick, who (though not Jeter) also isn't Hunter.

Posted by: Torhu at July 6, 2005 06:11 PM

CJF--they don't show the results in real-time, but released a mid-afternoon update showing Pods in the lead over Jeter.

I voted for Pods because he has a sweet bike. Rumour has it he's good at hooking up with chicks, too.

Bitch Sox Pride,
Ilk

Posted by: Ilk at July 6, 2005 06:11 PM

That's not good. Apparently the 125 votes I just entered haven't turned the tides to Torii's favour yet.

Posted by: closetJaysfan at July 6, 2005 06:14 PM

Jeter has more runs scored (leads the league), more RBIs, more HRs, higher average by 30 points but because pods has 40 sb he should go ? Makes no sense.

Posted by: mike at July 6, 2005 06:42 PM

Every year starters drop out before the game and are replaced by players who were "snubbed." Torii may still go after all.

Posted by: LaurieNY at July 6, 2005 07:28 PM

Last ballot boxes are now being opened in the 11th Ward home of the Cell.

Just remember that we've been fixing elections since before the Twins moved out of Washington.

Dear Bat-Girl,

As it turns out, Shoeless Joe is a shameless homer, and pulled the lever for the White Sox outfielder.

Being a shameless homer is what BG.com is all about.

We did it! I would like to thank all of those knowledgeable twinkies fans who followed my advice of 10 Pods votes for every tori vote. Not only did we keep that overhyped jeter off of the All-Star team while rubbing into the faces of the east-coast-biased media, but we also voted in a game-changing player that is a major part of the team leading our respected division.

Posted by: twinkiefan at July 7, 2005 01:16 AM

I'd rather see Jeter than Pods. Sorry. I didn't vote for either of them a single time, of course, but Jeter deserves it *A LOT* more than Pods for the aforementioned stats reasons. Cool, he has 2.5 times as many SB as RBI's (17- Torii has only a few less HR's than Pods has RBI's). Cool, he has 41 more stolen bases than HR's. Cause he has Zero. Lame. At least Jeter had the stats.

Posted by: aussie at July 7, 2005 08:51 AM

Dear twinkiefan

I agree that now myaybe people will stop their whining about this mythological east coast bias, but being happy that an average at best player made an all star team because he stole a bunch bases and beat a guy from New York [END OF COMMENT EDITED. NOW, NOW--BG] I have no beef with the fans picking who they want to see, but they need to change the rule on how many times one person can vote.

Since the evil red sox won last year anything is possible, but I really hope pods doesn't blow the HFA for the AL especially since your team might actually have a chance to play in the ws this year.

Hate is an ugly emotion.

Dear All,

BG asks that everyone keep these comments respectful of each other. Should this topic derail, she will close it.

Yours,
BG

Posted by: Batgirl at July 7, 2005 11:39 AM

Sorry BG. I didn't realize some might take offense at what I wrote.

There comes a time when people need to look at the truth and the truth is pods will be an after thought in baseball history and Jeter will be in the hall.

Now ... how the heck did Shea Hillenbrand & Mike Sweeney make the team that's another story.

Posted by: mike at July 7, 2005 11:52 AM

Dear Mr. Mike,

BG doesn't know up from down, of course, but she honestly believes they had every intention of having Jeter on the team--that by including him in the Final Vote it seemed like a foregone conclusion.

Dear All,

But, of course, it's merely an All-Star game and not worth too much vitriol, oui?

BG must go out for awhile. She assumes that this conversation will continue with all bonhomie.

Yours,
BG

Posted by: Batgirl at July 7, 2005 11:56 AM

It's not just that Pods is demolishing the lead in one stat while ignoring others, it's more how he's helped provide the (first place, always gotta mention that!) White Sox with enough offense to win games, now without Maggs and Lee. Subtract 60HR and 200+ RBI a year from those guys, and where will the new offensive spark come from? He's done it, by being a do-it-all guy who more or less frustrates opposing catchers into submission.

Are his numbers as "good" as Jeter's numbers? Hell no. Jeter's RBIs, HRs, BA, and runs at the SS position are, as much as I loathe to say it, excellent. However, keep in mind this isn't the MVP or triple crown award, this is the all-star game. Fans vote in the player they want to see, and the question which really needs to be asked is not who the best of the 5 is, it's who the most exciting and fun of the 5 are. In my opinion THAT category is a dead heat between pods and Torii, and the thing is, with the Sox in first and ESPN not showing as many "torii stealing home run" clips this year, it goes to Pods.
