Torii Hunter and Jacque Jones celebrate their appointment as the co-Boyfriends of the Day.
Posted by Batgirl at July 1, 2005 09:59 PMI was wondering how you would chose, but this, this is perfect!
Posted by: Maren at July 1, 2005 10:02 PMTorii and Jacque...What a delicious pair for boyfriend of the day
Posted by: Bojangles Crain at July 1, 2005 10:03 PMI definitely have no problem with this.
Posted by: LaurieNY at July 1, 2005 10:05 PMAnd a fabulous birthday present for BatDad
Posted by: heraldguy at July 1, 2005 10:06 PMTorii and JJ are really the Twinniest Twins of them all, and we're all better people when they play at BOD levels.
Posted by: Kurtis at July 1, 2005 10:09 PMFirst they share thought bubbles, now they share BOD status...
Posted by: Ryan at July 1, 2005 10:10 PMVERY well deserved!!!!!!!
Posted by: Stacy at July 1, 2005 10:12 PMCool Site. Little Nick left Minnesota safely the other day out of D1 at the Airport. I loaded his bag and we were going to make a sign for hm to see as his flight got ready to leave but we were very busy and were not able to.
Posted by: greg at July 1, 2005 10:31 PMToday became a day of unexpected surprises.
First, my dad got home from work around 2:30, and we (sis, dad, and I) decided it'd be fun to take in a game. I hadn't seen a Santana start all year...thought it'd be worthwhile for my sis to get a feel fro the atmosphere of his start)
So we leave around 3:30-4, and after an unexpectedly short drive (usually takes and hour and half...took about 40 minutes this time) and got to the dome.
Walked up to the ticket office and picked up three tickets.
It was a bobblehead day (we were reminded as we drove there by the radio annoucement...and the lines at the gate...yikes)
To my surprise, all three of us were able to get the bobbly-recreation of our beloved VP. My sister was especially happy, as she's now 3 for 3 when it comes to Twins promotional giveaways (batting helmet, Ford poster, Bobblehead)
This was the first bobblehead for my dad and I...after four years of going to games :)
Game started out, with a great first inning, but an unpleasent start for El Presidente. I felt bad for him, sitting down 9 bitches but getting no support early.
But boy...what an 8th inning....WOW! I was glad to see the actual VP come in for a bee-you-tee-full finish.
Posted by: Torhu at July 1, 2005 10:51 PMOh man, there's a menage a trois I'd love to be in...
Jesse Crain sure is confident in himself... he blows a save in order to secure himself another win!
Posted by: Donnalove at July 1, 2005 11:17 PMhooray for Torii and JJ!
the boys played well tonight! well... mostly. I was a little surprised that Castro made that horrific throw to first. but other than that... oh, and the HBP and HR from my boyfriend Jesse... um, but other than that, the boys played well.
and I was confused for a minute when Bob Kurtz announced Lew Ford batting for Jesse Crain, until Beth reminded me that we pinch ran for the DH and then used Abby in the field. ah, yes.
OH! and Shaggy did NOT have the Barbie backpack tonight! it was black! I wonder if it finally broke, after a season and almost a half.
and there was a shiny thing on the field to the pitcher's left... I think it distracted our boys most of the game. luckily, they were able to avert their eyes long enough to pull out win number EIGHT for JESSE CRAIN! woohoooo!
I'm sad that Johan didn't get the win... but at least we won, and it went to my boy. 11-0 to start his career, 8-0 on the season. way cool.
Posted by: kafumbly at July 1, 2005 11:18 PMKeep putting up these numbers Jesse, and they'll think you're a starter ;)
Posted by: Torhu at July 1, 2005 11:22 PMJJ and Torii came through when we needed them, which was so relieving. And it was so relieving that our boys actually managed to get some hits towards the end of the game. (I had to explain to my friend late in the game why I was absolutely terrified when the bases were loaded with one out.)
Although not a girlfriend of Jesse Crain's, I like the lad, and I am so glad he did not get pinned with his first loss! He owes the entire team a nice dinner for getting the runs.

My God, that is huge news. HUGE. After all the time Gardy and the local press spent fretting about "what happens if the starting catcher gets hurt and his backup is already at DH?" and the madness of carrying Corky Miller on the roster partly because of that fear, Gardy FINALLY figured out that he can lose the DH in the late innings... and it's OK! Because, you know, managers can still pinch-hit for pitchers and shit, even if they aren't managing interleague games.
Posted by: frightwig at July 2, 2005 12:31 AMfrightwig,
I *knew* that box score was looking kinda strange...
MK
Posted by: mk at July 2, 2005 03:00 AMSome pitchers can actually hit, too. (A few Nationals pitchers have higher BA's than one Christian Guzman.)
Crain can do no wrong. Do they have an award for most "vulture wins."
Posted by: funoka at July 2, 2005 06:36 AMDear Mr. Wig,
The specter of Leroy running brings men to profound things.
Yours,
BG
I think we should all sign a thank-you card to Lou Piniella for leaving Dewon Brazelton in so long.
I'm kinda torn. Of course I'm happy the Twins won, but Piniella wasn't managing with the intent to win when it came to Brazelton. He left him out there when he was clearly overmatched to teach him a lesson, specifically "Why should Dewon accept a minor-league assignment?" As much teeth-gnashing as Romero can induce, he could at least swallow his pride enough to accept a demotion.
I think this win was a gift, one I'll gladly take. Had Piniella not been trying to send a message to Dewon, we might be looking up at Cleveland today.
I'll echo Frightwig and say it was refreshing to see Gardenhire actually sacrifice his DH for once. It's not something you want to make a habit of, of course, but having the nerve to do it is the sort of thing I like to see (unless it fails miserably, in which case it's the worst idea ever--what was he thinking?).
Posted by: Skorch at July 2, 2005 10:11 AMI was glad to see Gardy's move with the DH pay off. Up to that point, all of his moves had blown up in his face (Crain's homer, Ryan's DP)
It was nice to see Abernathy come back and make a difference (getting to third on a single, making a few great plays in the field)
Then of course, Ford got his walk (he gets on base ALL the time) :) My sister was especially glad she got to "LEEEEEW" at least once.
And you know, Brazelton got lucky that Ryan hit that DP. But you know, if Pinella wants to manage himself out of a game, by all means we'll take it. So what if he beat a bad pitcher who should've come out. What's more important is we pounded a pitcher we SHOULD'VE pounded.
Posted by: Torhu at July 2, 2005 10:54 AMI'd happily pinch-hit Mike Hampton for just about anyone. That dude can hit the ball.
Posted by: LaurieNY at July 2, 2005 11:32 AMYes, it's off-topic... but time to vote for the ESPY Awards. Our own Johan Santana is up for Best MLB Player.

Posted by: LaurieNY at July 2, 2005 01:50 PMHey, BG!
I'm hoping at some point during this holiday weekend, you have a chance to post your Blogger's Minute that was broadcast Saturday. It was one of the funniest things you've done yet. It was very hard to explain to the fans around me today why I was uproariously laughing during pregame!
Thanks!
Dr. Jane
Posted by: Dr. Jane at July 2, 2005 10:45 PMoh, you're kidding... I took my headphones off for a bit before the 5:30 pregame, and I missed Batgirl on 'CCO? I haven't heard one yet. *pouting*
yes, please, Batgirl... post it!
