Apparently Some Clarification Is In Order

My Dear Batlings,

When she came back from her journeys in Eastern Europe, BG was perhaps a little hasty, and would like to make some clarifications:

Why did BG delete the game threads? They were stressing her out. Moderating them was a chore, making adjustments to the program cost her money, and they stopped being fun. They led to a chat room atmosphere on BG.com that was driving people away. Some generous Batlings have hosted The Batcave for both chatting and game threads. And, yes, they tended to be 400 posts of misery--even before we started actually to suck--and it harshed BG's buzz.

Is there a no negativity policy on BG? No. Before we started the sucking time, BG was growing a little weary of the game threads which tended to be all about how awful we were when we were .627. Of course, right now we just blow, so that's another story altogether. There is a difference, though, between teeth gnashing and irreverence, and the game threads were leading to a lot of teeth gnashing. BG prefers irreverence. BG will probably frown on any further comments about murdering players, though.

Is there a no chatting policy on BG? Let's call it a guideline. BG.com was turning into a chat room, and making all but the chatters uncomfortable. BG would prefer if you kept your comments to the post. Of course, if there's news we all need to know about or if you run into Juan Rincon at PetCo, that's another matter.

Does Batgirl delete comments? You bet your sweet ass. BG doesn't go on the websites of Cleveland or Chicago fans and trash them, so when people come on for the express purpose of trolling, BG deletes the hell out of them, always has, and always will. She will also, as always, delete anything she sees as disrespectful towards the commenters or that threatens to erupt in a flame war. She will also, now, delete chatter. This is BG's site, she does it for fun, and she can do whatever she wants.

But Batgirl, you call them the Bitch Sox! That's so mean! Deal with it. I don't care what a White Sox blog calls the Twins. It is, of course, sass, and this is a rivalry. I'm sure the players are all lovely people.

In other words, it's just baseball.

With great love,
BG

This B**** Sox fan would like to say, thanks for being here, BG, and making my days a little more fun. I love coming here and seeing what fun-loving Twins fans have to say about my favorites, and I've always tried to do that in a way that respects the boundaries here. I, for one, will never complain if any of my posts get deleted, since, after all, it's your place, and you have to keep it tidy. I abhor trolls, too.

As to your last point, BG, some of the fans are OK, too.

I totally agree with mjm...except that I am not a bitch sox fan, hehe;)

BG, this is the best site ever and it's really too bad that trolls have to come on here and make no brain posts.

And I appreciate you making the distinction between teeth gnashing and irreverence!! There are plenty of sites to give all the angry/sarcastic/ignorant/arrogant criticisms you want.

There's only one place to enjoy sass!!

Thanks for providing that, BG!!

Amen, sister.

Good for you, BG! Your regular reminders that it is just a game - the game of baseball - helps us keep our perspective on what is really important and what is entatertainment. If a sports fan happened to drop down from Mars and see what's happening to the Twins, she/he/it could only admire Ron Gardenhire for his withstanding the trials and tribulations of managing a minor league club skillfully enough to keep it in contention for the playoffs. Sure Chicago looks as unbeatable as Achilles did to the warriors of ancient Troy, but that didn't stop them from eventually burying him. We all need to be encouraging and supportive. This is our team. We have no other. Let's cheer them on to do their best until the gods look favorably once again on our bats, especially in the late innings. Let the dumping-on remain the provence of Pat Reusse.com!

Brava Batgirl!!

I hope your explanation serves to settle some of the uproar, and bring back some of the Batlings who have been MIA for a while now.

Love,
bubblemint

JUST BASEBALL? WHAT? Well, OK, you are, as usual, spot on. Thanks for the clarification. You did, however, use numerous multi syllable words so I am guessing that your message will be lost on many of the morons that brought the dark side to the temple of sass. But a valiant effort non the less.

Thanks for the spunk, thanks for the sass and, as always, we love ya BG!

By the way...I love it when you say "you bet your sweet ass" Perhaps it could be new tagline? Or perhaps a slight modification "You bet your sweet sass"

Last but not least...I thought about you this morning while I enjoyed some spectacular blueberry pancakes at the Main Cafe in Stillwater - you would have loved them

I was sad when I heard that the chatter had driven away some of the people who had been here long before I ever started coming around. I hope they'll come back, now that things should be back to "normal."

Posted by: kafumbly at June 26, 2005 11:30 AM

Sounds reasonable. BTW, I took over the Old feature, Goober's Goat of the Day. I'm not using Goober's name though. If you want it back, feel free to take it back.

Posted by: amr at June 26, 2005 12:53 PM

Dear Mr. Mr,

Whether or not Goober's Goat of the Day happens is entirely at the discretion of Goober himself, who sometimes finds himself quite busy.

Sincerely,
BG

I applaud Batgirl for the changes. Things were getting out of control, and I confess that it was keeping me away more often. There are many other places to post "WOOOOOOOOOT" seven consecutive times in game threads, or suggest outlandish trade ideas, or yak about the minutiae of your daily life.

I look forward to life returning to normal on BG.com.

Today I say Yay! to the ixnay on the chatter play. Hooray.

Posted by: jekyll at June 26, 2005 01:19 PM

Oops, was my previous comment chatter?

BG,

As a fan who has been with you since roughly your second week last season, I applaud your decision. The atmosphere around here, while not really "bad", had indeed changed from where it was in '04. Part of that is due to a much larger following. So some shift in mood/ambiance/participation/etc is to be expected. But it had become a chore to read through a post as folks rarely kept to the topic. (and I'm probably guilty of following one of the tangents a time or two myself).

Anyway, welcome back (in more than one way). and thanks to RD, Skorch and the other guest bloggers.

BG, perfectly said. I agree wholeheartedly.

Thanks, Batgirl, for the focus. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa on the wandering, non-baseball chat. (Remember Pirate day?) But hey, I've got friends for that, and now there's the batcave. What I come to Bat-girl.com for is Batgirl, her sassy self. And Spanky Keats. Goodness. How do you come up with this stuff? Magic.

Posted by: hrunting at June 27, 2005 10:02 AM

Dear BatGirl,
I LOVE this site. I haven't had much time to read it, but now that summer is here, I might. Please keep up the magic :)

Oh, and Jeb, you have excellent taste in boyfriends.

"In other words, it's just baseball"

As the elder guru quipped, "Ah, what the hell. It's only a game". And thus life in the universe and order was restored.

Whimsy on baby!

What hrunting said. Hell, what everyone's said on this thread!

We are not stimulated by the inevitable moronic insults on unmoderated sites. We just want sass. And Lego reenactments. This particular soy lover particularly enjoyed LegumeVision.

Since we are posting, we respectfully submit Steve Finley as a Boyfriend of the Day candidate. Not that he is a Twin, and certainly not because he has done anything worthy on the field lately, but simply because he is tasty. Makes sitting in those cheap outfield seats on "Your Group Name Here" days an enjoyable experience.

We salute BatGirl and the Batlings, and cordially look forward to kicking some Twin heinie next week when they visit Anaheim aka Los Angeles. We'll raise an overpriced organic microbrew to Team BG as your Twins take the field!

I am late coming to this but, like a certain Supreme Court Justice ruling on pornography in the 1960s, BG knows crappy posts when she sees them.
