And it came to pass that the Batlings gathered at the Metrodome to witness the battle of the Minnesota Twins and the San Diego Padres, many of them meeting for the first time. Several Batgirl lurkers did appear in their midst, and they were most welcome.

Left to right:
row 1: E, heraldguy, Kristie (lurker), Angela (Kurtis’ wife)
row 2: Mike (lurker), Wee Sister’s Boyfriend (lurker), Wee Sister (lurker), JustBeth, kafumbly, Tumbleweed
row 3: David (lurker), Nick

Kristie (WAKE UP), CapitalBabs, Angela, Kurtis
The Batlings did keep score, yea verily, and…
Oh, I don’t want to do that anymore, I’m bored.
So herald grabbed a beer or two, the Batlings grabbed their scorecards, and they settled in to watch the game.
They cheered when Sweetcheeks stole second.

This is what it looks like to the other team when Torii steals a base. Where is he?! He’s blurry! And they are afraid, because there’s this out-of-focus man racing by, stealing a base.
The Batlings cheered when Shaggy pitched a scoreless 6th.

The Batlings booed when the umps made horrific calls. That ball was SO FAIR!!! He was OUT! Stupid ump, I shake my fist at you!
The Batlings cheered on their healthy, nicely-shaped Twins to take their minds off the ass calls of the umpires.

Well, the female Batlings cheered the Twins’ posteriors. The male Batlings just cheered on the Twins.
And when the game was over, the score not entirely to their liking, the Batlings bid each other adieu… till they should meet again in the blog of Batgirl.
Posted by Skorch at June 20, 2005 10:25 PMWell, there's one GLARING omission in the posterior shots. But I am slightly pacified by the inclusion of Jacque. And Torii. And Shaggy...
Posted by: LaurieNY at June 20, 2005 10:54 PMyou'll have to bring that up with Babs, the Official Posterior Photographer.
perhaps aurora and I can remedy this problem on Wednesday.
Posted by: kafumbly at June 20, 2005 10:58 PMSee that you do.
Posted by: LaurieNY at June 20, 2005 11:08 PMSorry Laurie.. he just didn't give me the shot I was looking for - a nice lead off first base!!!!!!
*sigh* and due to our seating position, I was unable to get a nice fielding position shot for the male posterior in questions.
I think you should take it up with him as to why he's not a switch hitter who could have given me a good look with a left-handed batting stance - but NO, he has to be a righty....
Sorry those weren't a bit better in focus but to be honest, my equipment is a TAD limited and from the distance we were sitting, these are actually pretty lucky ones.
My final comment on the pics is: That is only what it looks like when Torii is stealing second when Kafumbly has you distracted and looking the opposite direction!!!!! Of course, the sad part is that I was actually readying the camera at the time because I had just CALLLED that he would attempt to steal second. He just was faster than me... speedy little sweetcheeks.
Posted by: CapitalBabs at June 21, 2005 12:33 AMsounds like you all had a good time. i thought that i would post to get to know some of you so i'm not known as a lurker :p
Posted by: pinkflamingo at June 21, 2005 04:01 AMpinkflamingo, it's okay to be a lurker! I just didn't want these fine people confused with some of our regular posters.
and the pics would be sharper, too, if I did not have to reduce resolution to keep the file size down for web publishing. the pics are great, Babs!
Posted by: kafumbly at June 21, 2005 05:59 AMThis Krstie person lok tres familiar to me.

Nice job with the butt shots, Babs!
As you all are aware, Lew Ford is my boyfriend.
And Gardy is my vice boyfriend.
Nick Punto remains my sub-vice boyfriend, but only when he's not on the DL.
And right here and now, I am officially proclaiming Torii Hunter as my official Butt Boyfriend.
Those batting gloves are so HOT!
Posted by: TwinsGoddess at June 21, 2005 07:25 AMI was 'lurking' over in section 135 - actually too busy chatting with J-Ro to pay much attention to the game. He was super cool, he was even joking around with my evil Padres-loving full-regalia wearing ex-boyfriend.
Posted by: Say Rah! at June 21, 2005 07:46 AMThanks for posting the pictures! I totally need a better camera. I'm going to have to play around with my brother's on Thursday and see what kind of shots I can get...
It's too bad the official scorekeepers in Section 214 didn't get to make the calls that the umpires so truly messed up.
Just Beth
Posted by: Just Beth at June 21, 2005 08:05 AMSweet, and I suppose I'm no longer a lurker. The evening drove me to posting.
Posted by: Big Dave at June 21, 2005 08:41 AMI happened to be at same game, with the little woman and youngsters. I noticed you didn't include any Twins crossing the plate - for good reason.
Gallagher - didn't know you were a hard core Batling!
This is your sister's bro-in-law, how's your hold 'em game??
SayRah!
I totally saw you at the game! I was in the second row at the end. I got up when I thought you were going in my row--you were so nice to wait until the play was over.
I've never been that close to a player before. JC's chair was right below us. Good thing the game wasn't very exciting and I got to enjoy watching JC instead!

I totally saw you at the game! I was sitting at the end of row 2! I got up when you got to the game because I thought you wanted to get into my row! It was so nice of you to wait until the play was over!

ForMorneau, then I suppose you had a good view of JC's little mishap with his chair that turned a double into a triple on poor Shaggy... that kinda sucked. poor kid, he had his head down for a long time after that.
Posted by: kafumbly at June 21, 2005 09:15 AMBig Dave, don't forget to visit us in the Batcave! it's linked in my name.
Posted by: kafumbly at June 21, 2005 09:30 AMThere was a guy in a wheelchair sitting one section over who was wearing a Santana/Nathan shirt. I only saw it when he was leaving and I was going to go over there but he didn't come back. I hope he didn't miss us because our handicapped section was full when he arrived.
Posted by: E at June 21, 2005 09:51 AMT money - actually I did take one of Mr Sweetcheeks firmly planting his foot on Home Plate. 'Fumbly just didn't include it in the group. If you go to the batcave, all the various clips are included in the photos section.
Just keep in mind that they are very raw pics..

Posted by: CapitalBabs at June 21, 2005 10:00 AMFor Morneau - That is too funny! I'm sort of embarrassed now - I have never shown up to a game that full of "adult beverages" before. I suppose that accounted for my feeling cool and confident enough to talk to Romero. That chair should be the one that is sacrificed to the baseball gods of Canadia, eh?
And yeah, I was taught a long, long time ago to respect the d-a-m-n game.
Posted by: Say Rah! at June 21, 2005 10:20 AMI should also add that the aforementioned evil ex-boyfriend might have a NSMC on J-Ro now. He even commented that he is "a good looking guy".
That he is.
Posted by: LaurieNY at June 21, 2005 10:37 AMHey E, that was Me, Me (OK, that kinda sounds wierd). I had to check out early to meet a friend at the bar. I got there early but the usher wouldn't let me sit in 214 amd put me in 213. Didn't realize that it was you guys that had those seats until they were all taken (no biggie). I'll catch you guys at the next assembly, whenever that is.
Posted by: Me at June 21, 2005 10:41 AMThere's some info posted on tentative Batling get-togethers in the Batcave. You can click on Aurora or Kafumbly's names, or go to the link Babs posted.
Posted by: ndtf at June 21, 2005 10:49 AMHey, I almost made it onto Batgirl! I'm the guy in the red short sleeves over Angela, and the beautiful part of a person next to Kurtis is my wife. I was at the same game by coincidence, but I was proud to be with the Batgirl rowdies, where at least I know I don't have to hear people singing that awful seventh inning stretch song.
I haven't posted since book club. I want to thank you, though, BG, for starting me on a happy habit. Since we read Moneyball, I've read Babe: The Legend Comes to Life, and now I'm reading The Glory of Their Times. If anyone has a recommendation for my next baseball book, let me know.
I'm also looking forward to a baseball trip to KC that's coming soon. My dad and brothers and I will be at the July 9 and the July 10 games. Will there be a Batgirl banner waving somewhere in the Kaufmann Stadium parking lot?
Posted by: nailbiter at June 21, 2005 11:50 AMJust curious - when did they start letting cats into the Metrodome?
I suppose the usher would not want to deny Tumbleweed access into the game or there could potentially be a curse on this franchise similar to the billy goat curse.
Heraldguy looks vaguely familiar. I think I may have seen him somewhere before.
Posted by: Hegs at June 21, 2005 01:30 PMNailbiter,
A really good baseball book is the biography of Joe DiMaggio written by Richard Ben Cramer. I recommend it highly to anyone who is a baseball fan and who enjoys the history of the game.
Posted by: TwinsfaninNC at June 21, 2005 01:42 PMThat's not the first time Angela's had a cat on her head.
Posted by: Kurtis at June 21, 2005 01:43 PM"Heraldguy looks vaguely familiar. I think I may have seen him somewhere before." - Hegs
Hegs - Was it during the top of the ninth last week against the Giants relieving Joe Nathan?
Posted by: Skorch at June 21, 2005 01:49 PMScore one for skorch.
Posted by: aurora at June 21, 2005 01:56 PMHegs, they'd never deny Tumbleweed entrance to a Twins game. they need her! I can provide phographic evidence that the Twins love Tumbleweed. ;-)
Posted by: kafumbly at June 21, 2005 02:03 PMSkorch -
there may be a resemblance - but I'm pretty sure heraldguy is not as youthful as #45 - and I don't think he throws lefthanded.
If only I was lefthanded, I too could be a major league pitcher.
Posted by: Hegs at June 21, 2005 02:25 PMAre the not-named folks in the upper-left corner of the photo OMM's parents?
Posted by: QJW at June 21, 2005 06:25 PMNope, his kids
