Catching a Jacque Jones foul ball and giving it to this adorable 3-year-old seated nearby, Batling CapitalBabs brings glory to herself and, by extension, to the entire Batgirl Community.
Way to go!
Posted by: Jeb at May 22, 2005 07:19 PMnice work, CB! *much applause*
Posted by: kafumbly at May 22, 2005 07:26 PMI need an insulin shot! Too sweet. ;-)
Posted by: Kurtis at May 22, 2005 07:26 PMCrab nut! Grab chalk wick walk. Hue spectacular downs!
End [/] commentary by less-than-gruntled, Sox-prone correspondent.
But for Girlfriend Of The Day? Stacy, hands down. Who knows -- for fact -- no crying in baseball. So the Twins score three in the ninth to tie it, and one in the eleventh to grow on, by way of saying Happy Birthday, Stacy.
Posted by: Flitcraft at May 22, 2005 07:35 PMAwww Babs...how sweet!!
With all the east coast Twins fans I've seen here recently, when you said you worked at the legislature I thought you meant you were out in Washington.
How lucky that you are really here in Minny!!
Now, talk to those guys about the stadium..oh and tell them to get that budget thing worked out so Timmy doesn't shut down the government on June 30th too, would you please?
Thanks,
bubblemint
Posted by: bubblemint at May 22, 2005 07:41 PMoh wow.. um... damn.. *blush* wasn't expecting that.
But the little girl's name is Gracie and see!!?!? I told you she was too adorable to resist.. I wish you could have heard her yelling.. LEEEEWWWWWWWW (definitely her BF)
And I got many, "where is Jacque Jones??" Of course after Nathan came out, HE was her most asked about player. Turns out that she can focus on one man just about as long as the rest of us female batlings.
Bubblemint, for all you hear about "not getting the work done" please just remember that you know someone (like many) who is there working their ASS off to get it done. In the end, "agreement" is never a task with a start and finish, just something someone eventually gets talked into.
Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 22, 2005 07:46 PMWell, by virtue of the talk at the Capitol kind of stalling out for a moment, we all kind of had a day off. I know of at least three Representatives who took advantage of the time to take their families to the game too.
Back to the grindstone early tomorrow morning...
Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 22, 2005 07:51 PMNot to change the subject, but the starter for Cleveland tomorrow is right out of the California Penal League.
Posted by: Donnalove at May 22, 2005 08:01 PMBabs, that is the cutest thing ever. Great work. Like Stew and Lew today, you've made us all proud.
I kinda want to sing the Rouser...
Posted by: AT at May 22, 2005 08:03 PMCapitalBabs and I now have something else in common other than being a Twins fan. I caught a Jacque Jones foul ball in 2003 and gave it to a little boy that I had gone to the game with. I had the bruise for about a month and a half, but it was worth it to see his face, especially because Jacque was his favorite player.
Congrats on the catch, that little girl will remember that forever.
Posted by: HooliganKat at May 22, 2005 08:19 PMBabs, you are awesome! What a sweet thing to do. I'm sure she will be forever thankful for that ball!
Now, I was also at tha game and must say it was pretty much the best game ever. BOO to all the people who left in the 8th inning! You NEVER leave a game where Stacy and Shannon Stewart are both in attendance because Stew ALWAYS hits a homer when Stacy is there. It's just the way of the world. That win was pretty much the best birthday present ever! That and getting a Justin Morneau bat by passing for age 14 on bday #20, hehe;)
Posted by: Stacy at May 22, 2005 08:32 PMman stacy.. too funny.. you went with the pigtails didn't you. *laugh* Happy Birthday hon and boy do you know how to party.
Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 22, 2005 08:52 PMBabs, way to go. As we'd say up at Bemidji State(during hockey, but when the goalie makes a nice glove save)
"Nice Snatch"
P.S. Who the hell is this rodriguez guy? and where the Bleepin Blargin Heckfire is my boyfriend?!?!?!?! This is a bunch of hooey!
Posted by: Tinger at May 22, 2005 08:59 PMWorry not, Tinger. Back your boyfriend shall be when his confidence he regains.
Posted by: Nick at May 22, 2005 09:01 PM*comfort* Tinger,
Sorry but they sent him down to get his confidence back in place. Apparently he started getting his head all wrapped up in stuff and he wasn't getting to play every day. Gardy said he didn't want him just sitting the bench.
Have faith - he will be back.
PS boy am I glad you qualified what you meant by THAT statement... whatever happened to good catch?!
Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 22, 2005 09:02 PMJust out of curiousity -- Jeb, will you and Team BatGirl be doing BODs and writeups, or will BatGirl herself be checking in from the great beyond from time to time, or will we just be doing Game Threads until she returns?
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 22, 2005 09:29 PMBabs, yup--did the pigtails. Gets em everytime;)
Posted by: Stacy at May 22, 2005 09:31 PMDear Babs:
Well done. Very well done, indeed. She is a very cute fan.
Dear Stacy:
Very happy birthday. I'm happy Stew made it a good one for you.
Yours,
k-bro
Happy birthday, Stacy!
Carrie: Team Batgirl, poor replacement as it is, will be handling recaps and BODs while Batgirl brings sass to the poor French kids for the USO.
Babs,
Believe me, I do know.
As a state employee myself, I know how hard I work every day and I do believe that you and many others at the Capitol are working hard to get this resolved before it comes down to a shutdown. We came way too close to it back in 2001.
But I guess if it happens for a day or two, the bright side is, I won't have to take vacation leave to get to the Dome early for our boyfriend Joe Nathan's bobblehead day. ;-)
bubblemint
yes, yes, Stacy... happy birthday! :)
the Joe Nathan bobblehead is the only one that excites me. he's the best boyfriend ever, even when he walks a guy with the bases loaded. he just wanted the rookie to have that exciting at-bat in the 11th inning. Rook may not have gotten an RBI out of it because of the error, but he's the one who put the ball in the play to create our game-winning run. that was a selfless, generous, amazing gesture by our Nathanest Joe Closer, to sacrifice his ERA to give Rook that opportunity.
boyfriend, I salute thee.
Posted by: kafumbly at May 22, 2005 10:09 PMBabs, I have a pair of questions. Glove or no glove? Rocochet or no ricochet? Either way, I'm unduly impressed.
And Jeb, did you inform Ms. Girl that the French may in fact already have a little too much sass?
Oh by the way Babs, congrats on pulling off the red TC hat. It looks dopey on half the Twins, and particularly awful on me.
Posted by: Ryan at May 22, 2005 11:13 PMThanks for the bday wishes, dearest Batlings:)
Posted by: Stacy at May 22, 2005 11:18 PMWhat do you mean, Donnalove? Scott Elarton is from the California Penal League?
Posted by: Kurtis at May 22, 2005 11:33 PMwhere were you sitting at? was it during the marathon at bat??
Excellent, Babs! I'd like to think that I'd do exactly as you did with that catch. (Of course, seconds *would* be mine, but what are the chances of that?
Posted by: mk at May 23, 2005 02:41 AMThat is so cool. I have actually had a foul ball in my hand on three different occasions, and in all three, the ball was snatched out of my hand by apparently drunken young men...GRRR
Posted by: talldrinkowater at May 23, 2005 04:03 AMThat kid is way too cute (and I hope CapitalBabs won't be offended if I say she isn't too bad herself).
Posted by: gopher38 at May 23, 2005 07:27 AMThat's sweet. Very nice job,
>>oh and tell them to get that budget thing worked out so Timmy doesn't shut down the government on June 30th too, would you please?
please? I'd like to have a job July 1st...
Posted by: aurora at May 23, 2005 07:34 AMHappy Belated Birthday, Stacy!
And, well, awesome moment, CapitalBabs!
Just Beth
Posted by: Just Beth at May 23, 2005 08:34 AMRyan,
No Glove - it was sitting on the seat next to me - and I am fairly sure that it ricocheted off the field but not sure really what happened in the stands. My row is really close to the field and this was a foul grounder. No pop up, no battling with the neighboring seats, it all just happened too fast. It basically hit me right "in the numbers" and I grabbed and hung on - no brain work involved at all.
Moreyes, No, it was earlier in the game because young Gracie promptly spent the REST of the game in my lap.
Aurora, you and me both girl... I don't have much influence on the people who need the convinving sadly...
Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 23, 2005 09:15 AMAfter Saturday's debacle, I was afraid that Carlos had used up all of the Twins good luck, given that his (and his team's defense) was so outstanding. It was a performance beyond mortality. Untwinslievable! Then on Sunday the bad karma continued, but little did I know that CapitalBabs had changed the luck with her generosity. What I don't understand is how come it took so long for the mojo to change?
Posted by: Tony Boliva at May 23, 2005 11:12 AMit took so long because I didn't discover my rally cap until the bottom of the 9th.
