I was listening to the RedSox - Yankees game until this one got underway. 14-0 Red Sox now. Now that's a blow-out. Me, I'm willing to settle for a 6-3 win. That doesn't seem like asking for much. Oh, and I'd like a Chicago loss too.
Win Twins.
Posted by: gopher38 at May 28, 2005 03:00 PMGardy says that Joe's knee is still sore. I'm not nervous though. Nope, not me.
Couple more games though ...
Posted by: gopher38 at May 28, 2005 03:03 PMThe Rangers-Chox game is in a rain delay.
Posted by: Kurtis at May 28, 2005 03:05 PMThey're just trying to postpone the inevitable loss.
Posted by: gopher38 at May 28, 2005 03:08 PMGopher: Joe's knee is sore? It's the groin, right? Or am missing something?
Posted by: Nick at May 28, 2005 03:08 PMTwins @ SkyDome? Slow down...Boston and New York aren't the only teams in MLB? Woah...
I bet FOX is so glad to have such an exciting game. Thank GOD for the blowout. I always like watching the Yanks suffer.
Posted by: Torhu at May 28, 2005 03:20 PMOh no...be okay Lohse. You can't go on DL when you're starting to turn it around.
Posted by: Torhu at May 28, 2005 03:21 PMAlright Lohse! I won't be around much...got work to do on the other comp in the house. I'll be watching.
Go Twins, and go Not Yanks/Soxes
Posted by: Torhu at May 28, 2005 03:22 PMI think Kyle's just fine. And he looked pretty good in the first inning. If we are indeed seeing a new Kyle (and we just might be), I like it.
Posted by: Nick at May 28, 2005 03:22 PMMy bad. You're right. I'm an out-of-towner, so I don't get all the info, and I thought that they said in the pre-game that it was Joe's knee. But they just said that it was the groin.
Posted by: gopher38 at May 28, 2005 03:30 PMThat's good to hear; I just wanted to be sure.
Nice job by us of taking advantage of the error!
Posted by: Nick at May 28, 2005 03:34 PMIs there anybody here?
Posted by: Kyle at May 28, 2005 03:48 PMI just popped in, holy small game thread.
Im just following the game on Gameday and peeking over here occasionally to see if anyone's around.
Posted by: JimCrikket at May 28, 2005 04:00 PMApparently no one else is trying to procrastinate writting a paper today. It's sad-- no game updates from very funny people.
Posted by: Kyle at May 28, 2005 04:05 PMSorry, I'm cleaning my house and popping in over here. And I'm not extremely witty anyway
Posted by: aurora at May 28, 2005 04:10 PMI've been thinking of making Castro my 2nd boyfriend, and that helped.
Posted by: aurora at May 28, 2005 04:12 PMYeah, I'm around the apartment today, doing some cleaning, though I did just catch the almost HR/HR by Castro!! And yay Stewie!!
Of course, some of our best are on their way to Toronto, too.
Posted by: Nick at May 28, 2005 04:12 PMhell if he keeps that up, he can be MY boyfriend!
Posted by: JimCrikket at May 28, 2005 04:13 PMWow....way to go boys! Now that's some fun baseball to watch!
Posted by: SDave at May 28, 2005 04:14 PMSadly, I don't get to watch it. Was it pretty?
Posted by: aurora at May 28, 2005 04:15 PMCastro...wow. Apparently he REALLY wanted that homerun. And then Stewie.
Poor Morneau. Apparently part of Stewie's Victory is taking over the HR lead.
Come on Doc...you can't let him get away with that.
Posted by: Torhu at May 28, 2005 04:15 PMConsidering it was on three days rest, Busch's outing wasn't that horrible. But I'm glad to see we took advantage.
I'm going out for a run, but once I get back I'll pop in. I hope we can get some chatter going!
Posted by: Nick at May 28, 2005 04:16 PMCould someone tell me what happened on the Castro play, please? I'm not even getting gameday right now.
Posted by: Kyle at May 28, 2005 04:20 PMAll Gameday says is Castro homered to left. I dont get to watch the games, myself.
Posted by: JimCrikket at May 28, 2005 04:22 PMCastro hit the pitch prior to HR one just as far and as hard --- but it was also just foul.
Posted by: pollyannah at May 28, 2005 04:25 PMam i the only one getting my hopes up that the REAL lohse has decided to resurface? maybe he was motivated by keeping his spot. 1-3 in the rotation are set, and mays looks solid; not to mention that gassner's one start was very effective.
a friend & i are crashing US Cellular for the last three games of the 4-game series in September (9/23-9/25). my major goal is to yell, "you can put in on the booooarrddd..... YES!" when our boys hit homeruns. HAWK SUCKS. you can still get great seats for these games. let's dial up the TWINS presence at these games, since chicago doesn't come out to support the sox, too busy watching the cubs lose.
Posted by: clay jr at May 28, 2005 04:26 PMHey peeps. Castro hit a homerun to left-center, I think. I only caught the replay. Apparently he had just missed a homerun foul right before that. Then Shannon hit one just over the fence, and Toronto's bullpen found itself jumpin'.
Posted by: AT at May 28, 2005 04:27 PMWhen does Lohse usually run out of gas? 90 pitches? He's at 64 now.
Posted by: Mark at May 28, 2005 04:30 PMThanks. I appreciate the recap.
Posted by: Kyle at May 28, 2005 04:31 PMSo Dick and Bert are saying that Johan was tipping his pitches in the games when he wasn't doing as well. Apparently that means the hitters knew which pitches were coming, and that's why he had a bad game against Toronto last time.
Even more ridiculously, to Dick and Bert, Toronto then announced this to everyone, allowing Johan to correct this before everyone else got to him. Why would Toronto voluntarily give up this advantage? Did Corey rat them out one way or the other?
Posted by: AT at May 28, 2005 04:36 PMSo was Lyle ever given a proper funeral?
Posted by: Stacy at May 28, 2005 04:37 PMStacy, I hope that's a good question, but I'm afraid he might find a way back if we assume he's gone for good.
Still, we haven't seen much of him for a few starts, have we?
Posted by: AT at May 28, 2005 04:41 PMlohse is scary after 90-95 pitches. i'd like to see him finish this one.
Posted by: clay jr at May 28, 2005 04:42 PMActually, that news ran in one of the newspapers or other news outlets. I read it yesterday somewhere. They apparently spent a lot of time reviewing his tapes and corrected the tipoffs.
Posted by: JimCrikket at May 28, 2005 04:43 PMAw, c'mon Kyle! You can finish the 7th!!
Posted by: Stacy at May 28, 2005 04:46 PMthe blue jays' radio announcers are falling all over each other in a love-fest for torii. they're doing everything but asking for his phone number.
Yeah, JimC, I just read that in yesterday's STrib game write-up, actually, so good spot on that.
Kyle's starting to look human; his first few innings of ground ball outs have given way to fly balls. I think this inning will be it for him.
Posted by: AT at May 28, 2005 04:47 PM"Kyle Lohse with 7 superb innings this afternoon!" -Bert Blyleven
That's music to my ears.
Posted by: Stacy at May 28, 2005 04:50 PMKyle out of the inning on a pop up to the mound. Nice. And he just hit 90 pitches. I hope they give the ball to Boo and the VP to finish this one up.
Posted by: AT at May 28, 2005 04:50 PMI missed the last couple of innings until that last pitch. If that's it for Kyle, he did a hell of a job. Our starting pitching of late has been awesome, and it's wonderful to see Kyle playing a big part in that.
Posted by: Nick at May 28, 2005 04:50 PMYeah, Kyle gets some love today. And he just got the "good job, kid" handshake that means his day is likely done.
Posted by: AT at May 28, 2005 04:52 PMExcellent performance by Boo. It's good to see him come back and pitch very well.
Posted by: Nick at May 28, 2005 05:03 PMI just got here. Whats the story?
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 28, 2005 05:08 PMOk, now that's creepy. I just got here too.
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:10 PMNew Yawkahs IN... DA... HOUUUUUUUUUUUSE!
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:11 PMyeah, this place today is just kind of a low-key Twins pitcher lovefest, eh?
Speaking of pitchers, that Batista guy just struck out the side. He looked pretty good doing it, I must admit.
Posted by: AT at May 28, 2005 05:12 PMYou New Yorkers...
The Twins got two early unearned runs after the Toronto 1B dropped a throw. They put together a few hits to make the Jays pay. Then, Castro and Stewie (our two big power hitters as of late) hit back-to-back solo homers. Lohse pitched an excellent game, allowing just one run, which I believe was unearned. And now the VP is on for the save with the score 4-1, one out in the ninth.
Posted by: Nick at May 28, 2005 05:12 PMPeople could start talking if you two come and go together yanno
Posted by: JimCrikket at May 28, 2005 05:12 PMGame not on TV here. Just XM Radio.
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:13 PMOh dear. C'mon, Joe. Let's do this...
Posted by: Nick at May 28, 2005 05:15 PMMy back totally went out today. A beautiful day outdoors, I had planned. WASTED. I've been flat on my back all day (although a few hours were spent heartily enjoying what went on at Yankee Stadium today. The time just FLEW by!)
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:15 PMCuddyer "panics" was right on.
Now let's see how Nathan responds. . .
Posted by: Alex at May 28, 2005 05:16 PMok I'm back.
OK, the very last thing I want right now is for this game to get interesting. Clean it up, VP.
Posted by: AT at May 28, 2005 05:17 PMHey Aurora
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:17 PMIs it me or does Nathan recently seem afraid to throw strikes?
Posted by: Alex at May 28, 2005 05:17 PMIt's not you.
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:18 PMDear God. COME ON, Nathan. Tying run on second with one out...
Posted by: Nick at May 28, 2005 05:18 PMass-crap.
Posted by: AT at May 28, 2005 05:18 PMSay it ain't so Joe!!
Posted by: Shaun at May 28, 2005 05:19 PMCan we call him Aaron F'ing Hill?
Posted by: aurora at May 28, 2005 05:19 PMOh, absolutely
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:19 PMOh wow
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 28, 2005 05:19 PMsucky sucky sucky pants.
Posted by: aurora at May 28, 2005 05:20 PMhis mojo....is gone
Posted by: Mark at May 28, 2005 05:20 PMNo one wants to be in Joe's pants today
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:20 PMcmon joe. . . bear down!!!
Posted by: Alex at May 28, 2005 05:21 PMDidn't this Hill character just come up because Koskie broke his thumb? That has to be significant somehow...
Posted by: AT at May 28, 2005 05:21 PMNow that was the old joe. . .
Posted by: Alex at May 28, 2005 05:21 PMHow bad was Cuddy's error? (Go on, I can take it)
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:21 PMYAY VEEP
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 28, 2005 05:22 PMLaurie, it was pretty bad, but I don't think he had a chance to get the runner anyway, so it's probably of no consequence.
Posted by: Nick at May 28, 2005 05:22 PM"Didn't this Hill character just come up because Koskie broke his thumb? That has to be significant somehow..."
I don't want to malign anyone, but does that mean it's Carrie's fault?
Posted by: aurora at May 28, 2005 05:22 PMI can't believe that Adams fool just swung at that bad high fastball for the strikeout. that's the gift Joe needed to have a chance to get out of this inning.
You can do it!
Posted by: AT at May 28, 2005 05:22 PMK. thank you. now let's bring it home for kyle.
Posted by: chaz at May 28, 2005 05:22 PMone strike away. .
Posted by: Alex at May 28, 2005 05:23 PMNA-THAN, NA-THAN, NA-THAN
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 28, 2005 05:23 PMthank god. . .
Have a good memorial day everyone. . .
Great site. . glad I found it. .
Thanks to the article in Rake magazine. . .
Posted by: Alex at May 28, 2005 05:23 PM*sigh* you guys are faster than my feed, and I got all excited cause they called a strike and you say one strike away.
Posted by: aurora at May 28, 2005 05:24 PMWoot. That was more stressful than it needed to be, but I'll take the W.
And yes, if indeed Hill came up because of Koskos' injury, it would have been Carrie's fault had we lost. :)
Posted by: Nick at May 28, 2005 05:24 PMAnd Cuddy saves his own a$$.....
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 28, 2005 05:24 PMThe VP got it back there in that last AB, I think. Twins win. Now I can go back to my afternoon stupor.
Posted by: AT at May 28, 2005 05:24 PMWheeeeeeeeeeew!
Posted by: Shaun at May 28, 2005 05:24 PMwell, that was interesting
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:24 PMHe just had to make it interesting. Maybe the game was just moving along too quickly. Sure didnt help his ERA any. In the end, it's a W.
Posted by: JimCrikket at May 28, 2005 05:24 PMThere was an article in the Rake magazine?
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 28, 2005 05:25 PMWhew....Joe was doing a pretty good Eddie Guardado imitation today.
Nice win boys! Time for a sweep.
Posted by: SDave at May 28, 2005 05:25 PMyikes. i guess we'll take it but i hope last-month's joe comes back soon.
Posted by: chaz at May 28, 2005 05:25 PMYou know, things were going just fine until you New Yorkers showed up. ;)
Posted by: Nick at May 28, 2005 05:25 PMBoy did Carrie get lucky then.
Posted by: aurora at May 28, 2005 05:25 PMLaurie, do you have AIM?
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 28, 2005 05:25 PMGeez, Brian, get with the program!
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:25 PMOur pitching is really incredible. . .we're basically a light hitting team like the braves were a few years back. . .
but every game we have an incredible starter. . .
Posted by: Alex at May 28, 2005 05:26 PM>You know, things were going just fine until you New Yorkers showed up. ;)
I knew it! I knew I was a jinx. :(
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 28, 2005 05:26 PMI think so
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:26 PMI should point out that the Nathanest went through a period of sucktitude last year around the time he blew that save against the Yankees. Then he got his mojo backed, and kicked butt the rest of the year.
Posted by: Nick at May 28, 2005 05:26 PMArticle in Rake about Batgirl going to the game and meeting the team. . .that's how I found this site. . .
Posted by: Alex at May 28, 2005 05:27 PM*Searching for the program*
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 28, 2005 05:27 PMWe're just bad luck.
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:27 PMBrian, the Yahoo one?
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:27 PMRake article.
http://www.rakemag.com/angle/detail.asp?catID=40&itemID=20777
Posted by: aurora at May 28, 2005 05:28 PMwas the eddie guardado with the save today again?
You could break the chain of bad luck by sending out some of those bottles of booze you have stockpiled Laurie....
Posted by: SDave at May 28, 2005 05:28 PMPretty funny that the thread picked up in the last inning.
Posted by: aurora at May 28, 2005 05:28 PMNick - right on about Nathan. . .it's clearly all about Mojo for him. . . once he blows a save it takes a while to get it back. . .
same thing happened to him in the playoffs. . .
The best closers are like that, though. . .even mariano
Posted by: Alex at May 28, 2005 05:28 PMNo, the AOL one. Thats the only one I can get at work.
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 28, 2005 05:29 PMGee, SDave, to whom shall I send them?
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:29 PMTo me Laurie, TO me.
Posted by: aurora at May 28, 2005 05:29 PMJust send them all to my office - I'll be happy to redistribute them to all the batlings!
Posted by: SDave at May 28, 2005 05:30 PMYes, Brian. Norwaythecat.
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:31 PMI may hang on to any of the finer single malts, though
Posted by: SDave at May 28, 2005 05:31 PMOh how GENEROUS of you SDave! I have not the slightest doubt you would do that! LOL
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:32 PMLaurie, I'd love to have some of your fine liquors as well. :)
Posted by: Nick at May 28, 2005 05:32 PMSDave, how about a big bottle of Jim Beam Black?
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:32 PMAlways happy to help Laurie!!!!
Posted by: SDave at May 28, 2005 05:33 PMWhat I want to know is how to get a job whereyou get liquor. All I ever get is yelled at by clients.
Posted by: aurora at May 28, 2005 05:33 PMMan, I didn't Twins fans were such lushes... ;-) I guess after that inning...
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:33 PMIts the only way we can cope with our beloved MN sports teams (and the winters)
Posted by: SDave at May 28, 2005 05:34 PMHmm. Says youre not available.
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 28, 2005 05:34 PMI get plied with liquor and I don't even drink. Isn't that always the way?
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:35 PMLaurie why are hotel rooms in NYC so expensive!! Argh!
Posted by: Mark at May 28, 2005 05:35 PMyes Laurie...that IS always the way.
Posted by: SDave at May 28, 2005 05:36 PMlet me fiddle around with it, Bri. (Behave, all of you...)
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:36 PMNope, won't behave. You both show up together... all you talk about is drinking and now you're fiddling?? At least invite us to the party.
Posted by: aurora at May 28, 2005 05:37 PMBut I'm signed on, Bri!
Mark, everything here is crazy expensive
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:37 PMWait a minute...I thought I was at bat-girl.com.
All this alcohol talk and now Laurie's fiddling with Brians....did I hit the wrong URL?
Posted by: SDave at May 28, 2005 05:37 PMAnd wow, doesn't that make me sound voeyeristic.
Posted by: aurora at May 28, 2005 05:37 PMI didnt say anything about drinking!
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 28, 2005 05:37 PMHmmmm.....still says not available
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 28, 2005 05:38 PMLaurie did.
Posted by: aurora at May 28, 2005 05:38 PMyeah...like you said Aurora
Posted by: SDave at May 28, 2005 05:38 PMAs if you would ever behave, Aurora...
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:38 PMYou didn't say anything about fiddling around either, Brian, but that didn't stop Laurie!
Posted by: SDave at May 28, 2005 05:39 PMwho me? Innocent I tell ya.
Posted by: aurora at May 28, 2005 05:39 PMNot to encourage these PHILISTINES any more, but give me yours, Bri... (HAHAHA)
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:40 PMTheatreBrian75
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 28, 2005 05:40 PMExcuse me, isn't there a game we should be discussing???
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:40 PMHold off on that shipment Laurie...I'll just pick it all up with Aurora and I show up to watch
Posted by: SDave at May 28, 2005 05:41 PMSounds like you and Bri are starting a new game. And yes, we ARE discussing it.
Posted by: SDave at May 28, 2005 05:41 PMHow 'bout them Twins?
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:42 PMId feel wrong discussing the Mets game here... :)
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 28, 2005 05:42 PMhee hee. Ok fine. game stuff.
Castro earned himself another point in the bf for aurora race.
Posted by: aurora at May 28, 2005 05:42 PMI don't have an appropriate comment for that...
Posted by: aurora at May 28, 2005 05:43 PMthat's never stopped anybody here aurora
Posted by: SDave at May 28, 2005 05:44 PMgame stuff, game stuff. umm. game stuff.
Posted by: aurora at May 28, 2005 05:45 PMB-Sox playing yet, or are they still using rain to avoid a loss?
Posted by: LaurieNY at May 28, 2005 05:45 PMstill delayed
Posted by: aurora at May 28, 2005 05:46 PMand now my company is here so I'm signing off.
Posted by: aurora at May 28, 2005 05:47 PMYou know, with all the rain we've been getting in the cities...how many home games would've been rained out/postponed in an open air stadium?
Posted by: Torhu at May 28, 2005 08:38 PMOK, coming into this one waaaaay late, but I have to say if we're going to blame Carrie for Koskie's injury (and Hall's promotion), then I have to say she's already done her penance by watching the giant injury bug go 'splat' all over her beloved Orioles.
Just sayin'...
