With Strunk* as my witness, there shall be proper grammar in the batter's box today! The players will learn to string hits together in a sentence to form runs! And the pitchers will correct the opponents' mistakes by making them sit down and ponder the error of their ways!

*Also, the pig in that children's tale about the spider and her web.

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 05:40 PM

Amen to that, MK.

Posted by: theladyscribe at May 26, 2005 05:46 PM

May I suggest an additional Strunkism?

Omit needless outs!
Omit needless outs!
Omit needless outs!

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 05:46 PM

And, being that CC "Immovable Object" Sabathia is on the mound...

BUNT!

Posted by: infield at May 26, 2005 05:49 PM

Lineup:

Stewart LF
Castro SS
Ford DH
LeCroy 1B
Hunter CF
Jones RF
Cuddyer 3B
Redmond C
Rivas 2B

Is it just me, or is Rivas getting all the starts against good pitchers?

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 05:49 PM

Here is an off-topic question before the fun begins. I just finished a quick review of the Pitching Idol game thread. I noticed that numerous posts were made this afternoon. I've come to expect a large number of posts when there is an afternoon game - but in the middle of an ordinary afternoon??? I want to know where you people work. Who has time to post messages in the middle of a work day?

Posted by: Attyfan at May 26, 2005 05:56 PM

if it were up to me i would have bradke "unintentionally" hit one of the Indians. This would likely result in warnings early in the game, taking away the inside for Captain Cheeseburger, resulting in an advantage to us. However this would backfire if they immediately tossed radke

Posted by: twinsfanCA at May 26, 2005 06:00 PM

Rivas is in there because he's a righty. Same with Matty.

Bunt to Captain Cheeseburger all night!!! Make him really work for his outs boys.

Posted by: HooliganKat at May 26, 2005 06:05 PM

Castro really should have bunted

Posted by: mas at May 26, 2005 06:09 PM

Attyfan -

I post during program compiles...

Posted by: heraldguy at May 26, 2005 06:10 PM

No verb, Mr. Sizemore? Please, have a seat.

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 06:14 PM

Why Gardy chooses to peice together such a weak line-up for a game like this, I have no idea. We're down 2-1 in the series... you want to give the Indians 3 of 4? C'mon.

Posted by: Haplo at May 26, 2005 06:15 PM

"Pronk hit ball?" No. Pronk does not "hit" ball. He "hits the ball". Your seat is ready, sir.

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 06:18 PM

Atty, I practically have to live on the computer doing research or following floor actions - trust me, posting is only one of many things I do concurrently.

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 06:19 PM

who's hurt?

Solomon Burke Down In The Valley

Posted by: alex at May 26, 2005 06:22 PM

Rivas is in because of Punto's sore right thumb.

... and ASS CRAP!!!

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 06:22 PM

Bugger! Bugger, I say!

Posted by: heraldguy at May 26, 2005 06:22 PM

Man Bradke.. there are some habits I really wish you could break.

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 06:22 PM

yup that one run is looking like 10 right about now

Posted by: twinsfanCA at May 26, 2005 06:23 PM

and MORE ASS CRAP!

oh, and Crawdaddy is on first becuase Gardy didn't want Morneau in against Captain Cheeseburger. he said on the pregame show, and he sounded pissed, that CC is the one who hit Morneau in the hand, and he didn't want to put Doc in that situation. I guess he's worried that CC may play dirty and sacrifice himself to hurt our boy?

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 06:24 PM

Dammit, Cuddyer!

Well, at least they didn't score an unearned run off of it. That's refreshing! :D

Posted by: infield at May 26, 2005 06:25 PM

I must apologize. I believe that correcting the opposition on their batting grammar has only made them angry.

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 06:26 PM

well, mk, at least we know who to blame if we lose... ;)

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 06:28 PM

CapitalBabs and heraldguy - what you're telling me, is that I should give up my job as a mild-mannered attorney and become a programmer or work for the MN legislature. Hmmm - I think I'd better stay where I am.

P.S. I hate it when Brad Radke is too strong in the first inning.

Posted by: Attyfan at May 26, 2005 06:28 PM

Well, before going on a Twins mindset, I must make an O's related statement --

After breaking Javy's hand, and bruising Brian's knee, (all this after having Sammy get a staph infection and Matos crushing his finger in that bunt), Erik Bedard -- ERIK BEDARD, the only pitcher who has CONSISTENTLY pitched well, ERIK BEDARD of the 5-1 record and the 2.08 ERA -- has strained a ligament in his left knee and is on the DL.

*drinks*

Now, Twins, Carrie needs a win.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 06:29 PM

Sorry, Carrie.

But I heard Lopez is going to get a metal plate in his hand. That'll make him a bionic catcher. That's cool, isn't it?

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 06:31 PM

I see that the Pitcher That Gardy Shall Not Name has a NO HITTER going through two innings.

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 06:31 PM

a what, mk?

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 06:32 PM

Aaron F'king Boone.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 06:35 PM

Let me double-check...1..2..3..4..5..6. Yes, definitely a NO HITTER through two innings. A rather perfect game so far, come to think of it.

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 06:35 PM

Oh, wait. I forgot the opening walk by Stewart. But it's still a NO HITTER.

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 06:37 PM

Yeah, well, remember what happened last time Captain Cheeseburger started out well. Wasn't he the one who single-handedly assisted us in the wounding of our bases-loaded curse?

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 06:37 PM

so what you're saying is that Captain Cheeseburger of the Cleveland Indians has not yet allowed a hit in this game tonight?

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 06:39 PM

kafumbly,

Yes. Like I said, a NO HITTER.

MK

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 06:39 PM

Wow. A no hitter. That's really amazing. Gee, I bet he'd like it if he kept that up.

Unless someone cursed him. Y'know, by mentioning that he's got a no-hitter going. Or something like that. That'd be a shame.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 06:41 PM

wow, a NO HITTER. that's pretty special.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 06:41 PM

Does CC still have a no-hitter?

Posted by: Attyfan at May 26, 2005 06:41 PM

hee hee hee

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 06:42 PM

he just walked DJ, so yes, CC still has a NO HITTER.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 06:43 PM

The Captain still has a NO HITTER going, yes. Although he did walk the leadoff DJ.

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 06:43 PM

HAHAHAHA

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 06:43 PM

Yay!

Posted by: infield at May 26, 2005 06:43 PM

Excuse me, I am mistaken. The captain no longer has a NO HITTER going.

*bows*

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 06:43 PM

Way to go NBP

Posted by: mas at May 26, 2005 06:44 PM

Aw, shoot, there goes Captain Cheeseburger's no-hitter.

What a shame.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 06:44 PM

aw, ass crap on the DP, but we tied it up!

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 06:44 PM

YES.. there we go boys!

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 06:44 PM

grrrr...

If CC finishes with a one-hitter now, I'll be quite upset...

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 06:44 PM

Hey, it's ugly, but an RBI is an RBI.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 06:45 PM

what's that you said? a ONE-HITTER?

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 06:45 PM

Yes, DMW, I believe you are right.. He has ONE HITTER going..

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 06:45 PM

Since Laurie hadn't shown up in the thread I figured I would fill in. At least in the NO HITTER Jinxing Department...

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 06:46 PM

Huh. You don't see a ONE-HITTER every day, no sir...

Posted by: infield at May 26, 2005 06:46 PM

The twins have GOT to score more runs...GIDP is not good enough.....

Posted by: alex at May 26, 2005 06:48 PM

I'm here...

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 06:49 PM

Blake makes me uoogy.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 06:50 PM

I'm very proud of the efforts you guys made to jinx CC's feeble attempt at making us look bad. Ya did good!

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 06:51 PM

woo! nice DP.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 06:52 PM

Thank you!

(On behalf of everyone else on the thread, of course.)

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 06:52 PM

Technically it's not an RBI, Carrie - they don't give you an RBI on a double-play. But thanks for the moral support for my NSMC.

Now let's see if we can bust up that ONE-HITTER...

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 06:52 PM

kafumbly, what are you watching? GameChannel seems to be distressingly behind. I can't root properly when it's behind.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 06:53 PM

Nice DP Stewie

Posted by: mas at May 26, 2005 06:53 PM

I bet a ONE-HITTER would make SportsCenter. Yep.

Posted by: infield at May 26, 2005 06:53 PM

Actually, MK, it was quite impressive... he succumbed immediately to the combined efforts of the Batlings. What a loser.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 06:53 PM

Oh, that's right! The Captain *does* have a ONE-HITTER going, doesn't he?

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 06:53 PM

is it still a shut out ?

Oh I still really hate Kevin Brown.

Posted by: mike at May 26, 2005 06:54 PM

what am I watching? um... the Twins game... on FSN.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 06:54 PM

Mike,

No. The ONE HIT that the Captain has allowed moved the existing runner over to third and led to a run on Rivas' GIDP.

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 06:55 PM

Ah. I thought it might have been radio.

*grumbles* Stupid Maryland, not broadcasting all the Twins games...

Oh, yeah, I totally forgot about that ONE-HITTER! Gee whiz...

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 06:56 PM

And naturally I have FSN Ohio again tonight. When Matty first came up, they started making fun of Bert, saying he was lying about Matty's birthday HR. Then they showed Bert sitting in the booth (sob!) and started making fun of him as a pitcher, saying if anyone should know HRs, it's Bert, etc. I was a sad little Batling. :-(

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 06:56 PM

oh hey!! I just noticed - Lew got rid of the facial hair!! Good job Lew!

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 06:56 PM

Babs, DJ is clean-shaven as well.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 06:57 PM

*gasp* Laurie! They didn't!

Oh, that is some seriously bad karma.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 06:57 PM

hehehheeheheheheeeeee

*uncontrollable giggling*

AFB made an error...

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 06:58 PM

lying about Matty's b-day HR? shwa?

um, I saw it, stupid Ohio broadcasters. it was Bert's birthday, and Matty hit him a b-day homerun. deal with it.

nice bobble! hahahahaha... I love that.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 06:58 PM

Yeah, strangely I noticed his right away Laurie.. just hadn't looked at Lew's face yet I guess.. *GRIN*

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 06:58 PM

Carrie, I will happily slit this guy's throat with my "Circle Me Bert" CD.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 06:58 PM

Though I like it when the opposition makes an error, it throws Gameday into an apoplectic fit.

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 06:59 PM

Lew shaved because he went hitless. not sure why DJ shaved.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 06:59 PM

Heh, heh, heh. Aaron F'ing Boone.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 06:59 PM

TORII!!!!! wooooohoooo!!!

nice double, SWEETCHEEKS!

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 06:59 PM

Thank you AGAIN, Torii... yer makin' me look good! hee hee hee

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:00 PM

Atta way not to be intimidated by the chin music, Torii!

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 07:00 PM

YEAH!!!!!! Another tease to AFB!! Way to go Torii!

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 07:00 PM

Sadly, there went the ONE-HITTER.

...

...

Okay, enough of that. WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 07:00 PM

A double over the head of AFB

Posted by: mas at May 26, 2005 07:00 PM

Die, Cheesburger Boy!!

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:01 PM

oh goodness.. this just keeps getting better!

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 07:01 PM

Of course, that would be Chees"E"burger...

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:01 PM

Tore-Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!

Posted by: BW at May 26, 2005 07:01 PM

hahahaha...

this game is making me giggle.

and you guys shoulda heard Gardy on the 'CCO pregame... ha. he was going on about putting down bunts and making CC "get his fat butt off the mound." hahahaha, damn he was pissed.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 07:01 PM

Actually, we not only broke up the one-hitter, we broke up the quality start as well.

Yeah, the boys are looking good so far. *fingers crossed, knocking wood*

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 07:01 PM

Jay Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: BW at May 26, 2005 07:02 PM

And L'il Sweetcheeks, too!

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 07:02 PM

Aw. Poor CC. Gee, that no-hitter seems like a long time ago, doesn't it, Captain?

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 07:02 PM

I feel the need to say:

so much for our "weak" lineup against a strong pitcher.

Cheeseburger needs a special sauce or something...

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 07:02 PM

Carrie,

I'm sure he could taste it...

MK

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 07:03 PM

HAHAHAHA... I love this. go NBP!

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 07:03 PM

Kafumbly, chances are the DJ was only unshaven during the streak for luck (you don't mess with it when you're going good). Now that it's over, he had to change again.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:03 PM

Speaking of taste, Babs! You realize you made me stop at the grocery store on the way home from work to pick up fixings for Beef Stroganoff?

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 07:04 PM

My typing sucks almost as bad as CC tonight. Well, OK, maybe not THAT bad... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:04 PM

That was a nifty inning.

Now let's hope Radke doesn't get all squeamish with the run support.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 07:05 PM

*laugh* well just put it down to I'm encouraging you to eat better. *GRIN*

I had leftovers for lunch today too - and fed a VERY large baseball-playing friend of mine at work besides (that boy can EAT).

Between the stroganoff and the cheesecake, I was a very popular person at work today.

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 07:06 PM

oh, that's right, our boyfriend - er, I mean, YOUR boyfriend *ahem* - went hitless last night, too.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 07:06 PM

you weren't a popular person at MY work, Babs. don't you want lots of people to like you? spread the love, Babs. ;)

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 07:07 PM

if it makes you feel any better at all MK, tonight I ordered pizza... just too tired - late night on game thread making cheesecake caught up to me.

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 07:07 PM

That's better, K...

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:08 PM

So...would it be cruel to go after the FIVE-HITTER?

Posted by: infield at May 26, 2005 07:09 PM

Okay...maybe a little better. :)

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 07:09 PM

Psychic message time.

Bradke... there is *no* run support. There is *no* run support. You must shut them down for your beloved Twins to have a chance. There is *no* run support. It's up to you. *No* run support.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 07:09 PM

After what these idiots said about Bert, all's fair.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:10 PM

Infield,

That would depend on how our pitching goes.

MK

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 07:10 PM

What am I saying? Go with what Laurie said!

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 07:11 PM

That was quite a suave, sexy catch there, Stew!

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:11 PM

MK, show no mercy.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:12 PM

Sweet.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 07:12 PM

Sounds like Radke's hosting an episode of 'Pop-Up Baseball'.

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 07:12 PM

Laurie,

You're right. A FIVE HITTER deserves no mercy.

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 07:13 PM

um, those are nice sunglasses...

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 07:14 PM

Hmmm. Sabathia seems to have regained his balance. The FIVE-HITTER must die.

Posted by: infield at May 26, 2005 07:16 PM

Now, guys, a FIVE-HITTER is a great hame. A FIVE-HITTER is something to be proud of. Captain Cheeseburger should be happy, should work to protect that nifty FIVE-HITTER.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 07:18 PM

so, is Blake 2-for-2 tonight? it's pretty special to get a hit every time you're at the plate.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 07:18 PM

Kafumbly,

Yes. 2-for-2. Double and a single. He could even be working on the cycle.

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 07:19 PM

WOOHOO!

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 07:19 PM

Hahahaha!

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 07:20 PM

In the vein of curses...

Our IDIOT O's announcers mention, here with two down in the fifth, that Cabrera (you may remember him from the O-Files) had only allowed one base-runner in the first inning, on a walk.

Naturally, the next batter lines a double to centerfield.

*grumbles*

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 07:20 PM

announcers are terribly stupid. Dick always mentions when our pitcher has a no-hitter going. *shakes head* he should know better than that. I'm surprised Bert doesn't shut him up.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 07:22 PM

My cat has *got* to stop getting buffalo wing bones stuck in his back teeth. It's hard enough to concentrate on two games when I don't have to get up and pull wings off of his molars.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 07:24 PM

Kafumbly, technically it doesn't become jinxworthy until at least the 6th inning. But it doesn't hurt to start the process early. ;-)

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:24 PM

CARRIE, DON'T LET YOUR CAT HAVE BONES!!!!

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:24 PM

The FIVE-HITTER is still in effect!

Posted by: infield at May 26, 2005 07:26 PM

I certainly try. He keeps launching himself into the trashcan. He's an odd cat.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 07:26 PM

OK, maybe we ought to lay off CC a while. He seems to be feeding on it, like Reggie Miller.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:27 PM

feeding OFF it. GEEZ! I'm a spaz tonight.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:27 PM

This is CC we're talking about. He could very well be feeding on it...

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 07:28 PM

CC feeds on everything.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 07:29 PM

Carrie, wrap up chicken bones as best you can so he can't get into them. They're the worst. They splinter easily and can not only get caught in his throat, but damage his little insides.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:29 PM

Hey everyone. The reason I'm so late is that I was out for a run in between bouts of rain (though I didn't quite make it home on time), and then my key decided to snap in the door to my apartment building. Oops. :)

Anyway, good to see that Brad has been Rad since the first!

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 07:30 PM

I know, it's really bad. I'm trying to get him onto chicken fingers, instead. It's just so hard to scold him when he looks so very happy, covered in buffalo sauce.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 07:30 PM

say, isn't Gerut 2-for-2 tonight? how very special, getting a hit in both plate appearances so far.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 07:30 PM

Gee, Gerut must feel so very proud of himself. So very proud.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 07:32 PM

Yes, wouldn't it be nice to see Jody (Don't Call Me Foster) Gerut go 4-for-4 or even 5-for-5 tonight?

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 07:32 PM

Wouldn't it be great if every entertainment event was like baseball, and you could demand to keep the equipment used? Like you go see U2, the Edge's guitar slips out his hands, you catch it, and you could demand that he give you another guitar to make up for having to give it back?

Scavengers.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:32 PM

damn, the whore. stupid Gerut.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 07:32 PM

Grr. Didn't work.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 07:33 PM

Speaking of cats. You know that rhythmic gagging sound your cat makes in the middle of the night? You know, right before she/he vomits on your carpet? The only thing I hate more than that sound is the BitchSox.

Posted by: Attyfan at May 26, 2005 07:34 PM

Attyfan, I used to hate that sound, too. Then I lost my beloved cat/best friend of 20 years, and now I'd kill to hear that sound again. :-(

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:35 PM

Well, my carpet's beige, so it doesn't get to me that much.

I adore by cats beyond anything reasonable and find it hard to hate anything about them, even hairballs. I'm totally owned.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 07:35 PM

I adore everything about the Bradke, and his performace has been stellar, but I do wish he wouldn't give up so many hits. It's giving me heartburn.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 07:37 PM

I just wish my two had the same love of baseball that Tumbleweed does - but at least mine don't go jump in the garbage can.

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 07:38 PM

My cats are pampered, spoiled little princesses. And we all love it that way. :)

Posted by: infield at May 26, 2005 07:38 PM

Yeah, Dick.. start talking up the Max bat - that's who makes the Maple ones.. *GRIN* They are made by a local MN company.

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 07:39 PM

My Tidus (he of the buffalo sauce) has aspirations of becoming a utility infielder. He loves Lil' Brian Roberts and LNP and all those of diminuitive status, because he is a very tiny delicate cat himself.

Roxie, the older cat, just makes fun of Tidus and is more of a Playstation kind of girl.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 07:40 PM

Did Dick just say some of the players are using ass bats? Ooooh, when Batgirl hears about this they're gonna be in TROuble!

Posted by: mmmarkiep at May 26, 2005 07:41 PM

So long as he doesn't give up _runs_, Carrie.

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 07:42 PM

My cat took to baseball quite well, being a British cat. Her favorite player was Antonio Alfonseca because he has extra fingers, just like her.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:42 PM

Dang, I guess Gardy does have confidence in Rivas, sending LNP on a hit-and-run...

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 07:42 PM

my garbage has a lid on it for the very purpose of keeping Tumbleweed out. it was a bigger deal when Caesar was still around, because he would get into everything. he was as big and hungry as Captain Cheeseburger and diabetic, to boot.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 07:42 PM

Correction - NBP.

I always get those guys confused.

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 07:42 PM

DESPITE being a British cat.

Honestly. I am a moron tonight.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:43 PM

LNP? that's NBP.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 07:43 PM

And yeah, my cat Diana doesn't much care about baseball. Neither, despite his moniker, does my sister's kitten Nicholai "Little Nicky" Punto. Very sad.

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 07:43 PM

mmmarkiep,

I'm not sure you can say 'assbats' on TV.

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 07:43 PM

Ahh, that would explain why he slurred it and said "Ash bats."

Posted by: mmmarkiep at May 26, 2005 07:44 PM

kafumbly,

Yep - now you know why I can never work for the government.

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 07:44 PM

Considering my career in communications and the amount of writing I do on a daily basis... In my experience, I have found that as soon as I start correcting someone else's typos or spelling, I will make twice as many mistakes as I correct.

I love editing but it always gets me into trouble.

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 07:44 PM

**STAT WARNING**

Stewie is officially the hardest guy in the league to strike out.

We now return you to our regularly scheduled sass.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:44 PM

ooh, people reading the game thread later will want to know what's going on...

DJ grounds out in the top of the 7th. walk to NBP. Rivas strikes out. Stewie flies out.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 07:44 PM

LaurieNY, I am so sorry for your loss. I have a 20 year old cat who has been in renal failure since 2001. She was my first cat and made me a cat lover. I know that when she is gone I'll wish her back - cat barf and all.

Posted by: Attyfan at May 26, 2005 07:45 PM

just popping in, people are making me watch Gladiator, whats happening?

Posted by: aurora at May 26, 2005 07:45 PM

Nah DMW, that's close enough for Gov't work...

JUST KIDDING!!!!

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 07:45 PM

Babs, it's pretty my typing that's the problem. LOL

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:46 PM

Yes Laurie, you have very pretty typing.. *giggle*

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 07:46 PM

Pretty MUCH!!!!!!!!! MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's it. Something must be done. I suck.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:47 PM

NOt to change the subject, but is there a score?

Posted by: aurora at May 26, 2005 07:48 PM

Aurora, I'm so sorry.
We're up 4-1; had a big fourth inning and scored Castro and Ford on a Hunter double, then Hunter on a Jones single. Sabathia's walked 5.

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 07:48 PM

oh, sure, Torii... "Stew would have caught that, becuase we have better communication."

heh

let's hope this dosen't come back to bite us in the ass.

Lew's sitting on the bench saying, "SEE?!"

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 07:48 PM

4-1 Twins.

Laurie, did you drink something strange?

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 07:48 PM

I just don't understand how those two guys could have a lack of communication problem like that on that ball.... very strange.

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 07:48 PM

Oh, and Torii and Stewie just totally thought each other had a fly ball and dropped it.

And,yeah, kafumbly, that was my first thought, too! Poor, maligned Lew.

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 07:49 PM

Thanks. I'm stuck watching a dumbass movie.

Posted by: aurora at May 26, 2005 07:49 PM

HELL AND DEATH

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 07:50 PM

Bugger... Aurora, Belliard just hit a double for Cleveland score.. now 4 - 2 Twins.

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 07:50 PM

And Cleveland just scored a run on back to back doubles.

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 07:50 PM

*&#$&.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 07:50 PM

JC is warming up in the bullpen...?

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 07:51 PM

Another defensive lapse costs us a run. Crap.

Posted by: Shaun at May 26, 2005 07:51 PM

I think Bradke's done.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 07:51 PM

Kafumbly,

If he is then Radke needs to erase any baserunners...

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 07:51 PM

Yo, Carrie, cld you IM me? Are you _on_ IM right now?

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 07:52 PM

Attyfan, my sweetie had bad kidney problems as well. It often comes with age. I lost her last year. She was my first--and last--cat. The one great love of my life. I've already told my mom that I don't care what she does with me after I'm gone, my only wish is that my cat's ashes come with me.

Now let's take care of business here, Bradke. (translated: I'm about to cry if I keep talking about my baby)

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:52 PM

Well.. this is the bottom of the 7th 'fumbly and he has almost 100 pitches on the board. It wouldn't be a big surprise to pull him if it looks like the hitters are jumping on him now.

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 07:52 PM

I am still trying to get over how ugly Hafner is.

Posted by: Stacy at May 26, 2005 07:52 PM

MK-- Sad, but true.

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 07:53 PM

No prob, Laurie.

I've always been more of a dog person myself, but I have known some very admirable cats.

Let's go, Bradke - your 100th pitch should finish a K!

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 07:53 PM

Carrie, believe it or not, I haven't had a drink in many, many years!!!

I missed the error... switched over to the Mets.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:53 PM

yipes! nice to tune into a game with the twins up 4-2, but radke's making it way too interesting...

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 07:53 PM

I'm not saying Bradke shouldn't come out.

I just said that it's JC warming up in the bullpen.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 07:54 PM

Stacy, Hafner's looks are off-limits!! Someone, tell her!!

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:54 PM

does Bailey's cheesecake count as a drink?

Posted by: aurora at May 26, 2005 07:54 PM

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 07:54 PM

ASS-CRAP!

Posted by: infield at May 26, 2005 07:54 PM

Dagnabbit - 4-3, still nobody out.

Broken bat double down the right field line.

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 07:54 PM

dang... too bad the pen wasn't ready. i think radke was left in one batter too late.

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 07:54 PM

well, it's 4-3 now, brink.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 07:55 PM

WHAT THE FRIGGING HELL IS HAPPENING IN THE OUTFIELD?

MAN.

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 07:55 PM

what the hell is this?

Posted by: Stacy at May 26, 2005 07:55 PM

Holy...

Not a good game for Torii tonight - looks like we may see Lew after that crash into the wall.

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 07:56 PM

Hunter! Noooooooooooooooooo!! Where is his head at today?

Posted by: Cliffjumper at May 26, 2005 07:56 PM

Not again, not another blown lead!! C'mon Twins

CRAAAAAAAAAAAAap

Posted by: Shaun at May 26, 2005 07:56 PM

oh, this is just WRONG!

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 07:56 PM

Okay-- for those not on radio/tv: Hunter caught the ball but dropped it as he crashed into the wall. He's down right now. Romero's coming on. The Indians tied the game on a triple on the crash.

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 07:56 PM

That was a really tough play. No one catches that ball.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 07:56 PM

*moans*

No, no, no, no...

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 07:56 PM

Ass-crap ass-crap ass-crap!

Posted by: infield at May 26, 2005 07:56 PM

knock it off! stop scoring you, you, meanies!!

Posted by: aurora at May 26, 2005 07:56 PM

No, wait, Lew's the DH, right?

Sheesh...

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 07:56 PM

Torii hon.. we love that you seem to have remembered how to swing the bat for us again, but we really need your amazing glove too. Honest. But PLEASE don't hurt yourself.. I would be sad.

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 07:57 PM

If we move Ford out of the DH spot to the Outfield - we don't get a DH. That would be bad.

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 07:57 PM

I must not be living right...

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 07:58 PM

He's staying in the game!!!

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 07:58 PM

Oh, no...not Romero. Please, Gardy, not Romero. Not with a runner on third. He's allowed 6 of 14 inherited runners to score already! And most of them weren't on third to begin with!!!

Doesn't Jesse Crain work for this team anymore???

Posted by: infield at May 26, 2005 07:58 PM

The Bitch Sox stole our mojo...and our defense!

I can't believe what I am seeing lately.

Posted by: Cliffjumper at May 26, 2005 07:58 PM

Great. JC vs. Hafner, again...

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 07:58 PM

oh, Torii's staying in.

and that WAS a difficult catch. long ways for both guys to run, and just out of their reach.

and there's a runner on third, no outs, as JC comes in...

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 07:58 PM

"argh!" says JC. "it's hafner, my nemesis!"

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 07:59 PM

Runner on third and nobody out? You could be Dennis Eckersley and end up allowing that runner to score.

Though two K's would go a long way toward nailing that runner at third.

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 08:00 PM

oh, hooray, my boyfriend Jesse Crain is warming up.

why, oh why, does Gardy keep bringing in JC against Hafner?

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:00 PM

I don't want to be mean, and I suppose I'm biased, but JC lost his boyfriendhood by running up Rick Reed's ERA every time he followed him.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:00 PM

Law of averages maybe!?!? Hafner can't ALWAYS hit him..

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 08:01 PM

18th time's the charm. :)

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:01 PM

OH! thank you for striking him out, JC. thank you.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:01 PM

*blink* Good JC! Strikeout! GOOD JC!

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:01 PM

"take that, nemesis." he said before striking the death blow.

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:02 PM

Did...Did...Did...JC just strike out Assner?

Posted by: Stacy at May 26, 2005 08:02 PM

nice Nick.

Posted by: aurora at May 26, 2005 08:02 PM

*raised eyebrow* JC, darlin, this is like, the opposite of what you want to do.

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:04 PM

JC! they're cheering for you to strike him out!

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:04 PM

hahahahahah!

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:04 PM

Yay! One more, JC, and you could be the hero!

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:04 PM

Nevermind, JC. Good job. Good job. Don't listen to me at all. Nice strikeout.

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:05 PM

Here comes trouble

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:05 PM

Did he do it again?

Posted by: aurora at May 26, 2005 08:05 PM

Ok.. JC.. one more out.. you can do it, we are all sending you good thoughts.

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 08:05 PM

say what you will about JC (cause he's largely deserved it) but that was JUST what the team needed there...

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:05 PM

say, isn't Jody Gerut 3-for-3 tonight?

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:05 PM

Why yes he is!

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 08:06 PM

Yeah, kafumbly. TROUBLE.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:06 PM

Shush kafumbly, that didn't work last time...

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 08:06 PM

Three hits in as many ABs is quite an accomplishment!

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:06 PM

Shame if anything happened to Jody's little streak

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:06 PM

more good thoughts.. more good thoughts.

only one more out JC, you can do it.

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 08:06 PM

he's pitching these guys *tough*. lefties say no fair!

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:07 PM

it would be special for Gerut if he gets a hit in every at-bat.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:07 PM

Jody's a girl's name

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:07 PM

WOOHOO!!

Now the Cleveland fans are saying "Boo-urns."

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:07 PM

Woo-hoo!

Nice work, JC! (And Jacque!)

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 08:07 PM

YES!!!! JJ, that was a BEAUTIFUL catch.. webgem for SURE

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 08:07 PM

wow, what a catch. doesn't make up for the first misplay of the inning but sure as heck helps...

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:07 PM

And THANK YOU, Jaque Jones! And as my husband just said: "F--k you, Gerut."

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:07 PM

JJ is so hot. In all conceivable ways.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:08 PM

Wow. Where was this from JC before?

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 08:08 PM

The pen needs to work some magic tonight. I've got a good feeling that Boo and VP won't be kicked around tonight!

Posted by: Cliffjumper at May 26, 2005 08:08 PM

Wow! JJ, saving two pitchers in one play!

Posted by: infield at May 26, 2005 08:08 PM

if at first you don't succeed, Carrie... :)

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:08 PM

Darn, I missed 3 Mets runs

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:08 PM

How's Dougie doing Laurie!?!?!?

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 08:09 PM

Dougie is 0-1. And he's in danger of losing his job

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:10 PM

c'mon, let's bunt on Captain Cheeseburger! make him get his fat butt off the mound!

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:10 PM

*SIGH* sending extra good thoughts over to Dougie too..

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 08:10 PM

Well, just got back in from dinner and other business...and wow, did this game turn south.

I'm just glad JJ made that catch...too bad Hunter couldn't get those others. Didn't he learn from last night?

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:11 PM

So have our bats been as assy since the fifth as the numbers would indicate?

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:12 PM

the Twins batter's box is a no ass bat zone!

there are NOOOOOOOOOO ass bats in the Twins batter's box!

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:12 PM

Having Dougie (former Twins BF) come here was a dream come true. But apparently Willie Randolph has told him that he's not sure how much longer he's willing to accept defense in lieu of offense. :-(

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:12 PM

that was an UGLY swing!

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:13 PM

Matty, don't swing at those.

God, Captain Cheeseburger's hat bothers the hell out of me. Just that makes me loathe the guy.

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:13 PM

sabathia has a *really* jaunty angle to his cap tonight...

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:13 PM

well, they knew what they were getting when they signed him, didn't they? granted, he's hitting worse than before, but still. it's not like they thought they were signing a power hitter.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:14 PM

You SUCK, Aaron F'ing Boone!!!

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:14 PM

Take THAT, F'ing!!

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:14 PM

*sigh* In the early weeks of the season, I was looking forward to the games I had tickets for.

Now with the way things are looking, Yankees at the Dome next Friday...kinda nervous about going to that game.

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:14 PM

Nick aren't you the one who said he looks like AJ LeCroy? So is loathing him self-loathing?

Posted by: aurora at May 26, 2005 08:14 PM

that's leroy's first-ever infield hit in the majors! CONGRATULATIONS!

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:14 PM

LeCroy beat out a throw?! Even with an error?!

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:14 PM

HHEHEHEHEEEE @ AFB

That is a SERIOUS bobble when LeCroy can get to the base safely.

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 08:14 PM

And now the Doctor makes a pinch running appearance...

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:15 PM

wow, that was way lucky for Crawdaddy! nice error on Aaron F'ing Boone to get LeRoy to first.

and Doc is a pinch-runner? well, I guess he's faster by a bit...

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:15 PM

"curse that official scorer!" says leroy. "he scored my single an error!"

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:15 PM

I wonder if CC's hat is the result of an oddly pointed head? What's under that cap?

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:16 PM

Kafumbly, he was actually hitting really well for the first month or so, maybe a little longer. But he's slumping badly. He's hitting .210. I think he'll be OK, and personally I don't feel managers should say things like that.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:16 PM

The Doctor is in!

Posted by: infield at May 26, 2005 08:16 PM

Aurora, I think I said that some catcher (the Tigers' backup catcher, perhaps? or was it the Rangers?) looked like LeRoy.

And, Torii doesn't make him pay.

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:16 PM

Ah, pfffft. Goldurn.

Laurie-- No, the manager shouldn't say things like that. It's not exactly going to _relax_ Dougie....

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:17 PM

Torhu, it's a triple whopper with cheese

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:17 PM

brink brink brink...for LeCroy to get on base as the result of ANY infield hit HAS to be an error.

And wow, we're giving this game away. I just have no confidence in this team as whole right now. There's not a single part you can count on.

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:17 PM

Ok boys, I am just telling you now.

I'm too TIRED for another exra-innings game. Aren't YOU guys tired of extra-innings?!?! I am so... tired. *yawn*

Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 26, 2005 08:17 PM

the indians have made the twins choke on some tough losses this year. time to turn that around...

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:17 PM

Laurie...I have have a hard time believeing that any kind of food would stay under that hat long enough for us to notice ;)

Of course, it's always handy to have a little extra something for that long walk back to the dugout.

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:18 PM

Torhu, right now I feel like we can count on Silva, and, to a lesser extent, Mays. But that's hardly our whole SP unit. I do agree with you.

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:18 PM

Ok. I swear some one said they looked like AJ with Lecroy's build. oh well.

Posted by: aurora at May 26, 2005 08:18 PM

If the manager has something like that to say to a player, he should say it privately. Like any good manager in any line of work.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:18 PM

I'm tired of throwing leads away Babs...

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:18 PM

I know, I was referring to his slump, not his overall performance.

and no, managers shouldn't say things like that.

but seriously, they knew they weren't getting a power hitter. don't sign a guy if you're going to deem him a failure for not suddenly becoming a big hitter.

oh, and here's Boo! go Boo!

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:19 PM

zzzz...*snrk*...what? Babs, did you say something?

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 08:19 PM

Torhu,

You can count on Gardy pinch-hitting for Rivas in the late innings...*grumble*...

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 08:19 PM

Well, Juan, that's not exactly the thing to give us confidence....

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:19 PM

Yes, Babs. I am exhausted. Perfect night for a 9-inning game under 3 hours.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:19 PM

Not a great start for Boo; let's see if he can clamp down tonight and be the real Boo.

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:19 PM

Dick did his Count impersonation ;)

...wow.

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:19 PM

Nice bunt, Aaron F'ing Boone!!

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:20 PM

"Yes, Babs. I am exhausted. Perfect night for a 9-inning game under 3 hours."

That we win ;)

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:20 PM

hahaha! good boy, Juanie. get the guy out at second on a bunt single.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:20 PM

HEH. Way to make up for it, Boo. Good work.

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:20 PM

rincon = shaky since his return. i think he needs a hug or something...

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:21 PM

Can anyone hear what the fans are chanting? My guess is that it's not nice to Boo.

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:21 PM

oops, good catch, Torhu!

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:21 PM

here's a question: when the indians make their first appearance in the bronx this season, does aaron boone get a standing ovation?

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:22 PM

Aaron: "Are they booing me?"
Wedge: "No no...they chanting BOOOOOO-ne, BOOOOOOO-ne."

Aaron *to crowd*: "Are you saying boo or Boooo-ne."

Crowd: "BOOOOOOO"
Drunk Guy: "YOU SUCK!"

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:22 PM

Boo, that was very not good. You need to settle down and be normal Boo again. NOW.

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:22 PM

ooh, I bet LNP will pinch hit for Rivas next time around.

don't walk him, Boo.

oh, he just wants to get a DP. Castro is bored.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:22 PM

That was not so good, Boo. Walks are not needed.

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:22 PM

Yankee fans were awful to him. I think that night was the only time they ever cheered him. They hated him. I sat there like a moron, defending him the whole time. Nice thanks I got.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:23 PM

I will say, between Sabathia, LeCroy, and probably Wickman in this game, it makes a fella feel a lot more comfortable about shopping at Casual Male.

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 08:24 PM

That's more like the real Boo!

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:24 PM

cha-ching!

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:24 PM

MAN, Boo! Good strikeout! That's the Boo we know and love!

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:24 PM

Come on, Boo! We love you! Feel the love!

Posted by: infield at May 26, 2005 08:24 PM

nice K, Boo!

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:24 PM

Time out for Dougie at-bat

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:24 PM

Okay, Boo, one more...

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 08:24 PM

nice stop on that ball in the dirt.

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:26 PM

I don't like games like this anymore. I just want a good nine inning victory without so much drama and over-all assery.

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:26 PM

oh, that was such a strike. bad call.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:26 PM

Yay, Boo!!

I agree, Torhu. At this point, I'd love to see a few five-run wins.

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:27 PM

man, when the pen needs a K tonight, they get it...

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:27 PM

Why did he have to throw to first? There's already a guy there.

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:27 PM

Torhu-- Ditto. Think we should start a petition?

BOO! You're BACK! 2K!

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:27 PM

Excellent!!!! Nice job Boo.

Posted by: cw at May 26, 2005 08:27 PM

and a strike, anyway!

siddown, bitch!

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:27 PM

I was wondering that too, Torhu. Maybe the runners were going? (Though it wasn't 3-2).

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:27 PM

Dropped third strike, Torhu - it's not an out until they throw to first in that case.

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 08:28 PM

...Cupcake Day seems so very long ago right now.

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:28 PM

Way to go Boo! Now let's get the bats going.

Posted by: Attyfan at May 26, 2005 08:28 PM

mmm... cupcakes...

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:28 PM

ah, inning break. you know what? whoever designed the twins new unis back in '87 did a dang good job. 18 years later, they still look great. meanwhile, the angels, devil rays, and diamondbacks all went through their "pajama" phase.

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:29 PM

Wasn't Cupcake Day the best?

DMW, my understanding is that if there's a runner already at first, they didn't have to throw there.

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:29 PM

message pitch...

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:29 PM

K-WP

he can run to first on that, so you gotta throw him out.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:29 PM

I understand the droppd third strike, but with a guy already on first...I thought that the runner couldn't advance.

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:29 PM

and lets not talk about the blue jays uniforms.

it looks like their numbers have fallen off.

I actually have cupcakes. FYI.

Posted by: aurora at May 26, 2005 08:30 PM

JJ, that's not how we wanted to start things, at all.

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:30 PM

Brink-- Yup.

Jaque, that was not cool.

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:30 PM

You don't have to throw to first on a dropped third strike when there's a man at first EXCEPT when there is already two outs

Posted by: Joel at May 26, 2005 08:30 PM

What ever happened to our good, non-ass bats?

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:30 PM

ass crap!

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:30 PM

Let's go, NBP - let's break up this FIVE-HITTER...

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 08:31 PM

Aw, Cuddy.

C'mon Redmond. C'mon!

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:31 PM

you know, it almost looks like they made his hat wrong. the logo in the back sorta looks centered in the back of his head. why doesn't he just exchange it for a new one? ;)

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:32 PM

C'mon, Tiffee, let's break out of that slump!

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:32 PM

Aaaaah. Thanks Joel. That's the missing piece :)

As far as this games go, we've turned a mess of a game into a potentially big win for Cheesey.

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:32 PM

What, the Captain has a FIVE HITTER going? That sounds like a pretty good game...

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 08:33 PM

Good eye, Reddy.

Now let's see...Tiffee for Rivas.

I told ya you could count on Gardy. *sigh*

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 08:33 PM

redmond has played very well this year. let's give him props.

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:33 PM

Cuddy needs some facial hair again. Just a 5 o'clock shadow, mind you.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:33 PM

A walk, huh. *narrowed eyes* We'll take a walk.

Tiffee, me lad, now would be a _great_ time to break that slump. Boyfriend power!

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:33 PM

who would you have in there instead? you're looking for power, punto doesn't supply much beyond the possibility of a double. redmond would have a hard time scoring from 1st on a double...

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:34 PM

Ha! Nice play, F'ing!!

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:35 PM

yahoo Tiffee! I knew you could do it!

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:35 PM

WOOHOO! Way to go, Junior Boyfriend! Love ya, Tiffee!

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:35 PM

nice break... can they make em pay?

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:35 PM

Sadly, kauf...they make hats like that now. They're designed so that if you were them crooked the logo points the right way.

Which thus defeats the point of a crooked hat. That's when sideways and backwards caps have gone from cool to a marketing ploy.

Hah!

Sorry Boone. They're shouting BOOOOO not BOOOOO-ne!

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:35 PM

AFB is really hearing it from the fans. He must think he's in the Bronx again.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:35 PM

I really like Redmond a lot. he's a total clutch hitter.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:36 PM

I didn't know about the hat thing, Torhu. Frankly, I think it's pretty sad.

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:36 PM

All right, Shannon. Let's try this again. On behalf of my sister: Boyfriend power!

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:36 PM

seriously, Torhu? they MAKE hats like that? how incredibly stupid. *shakes head*

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:37 PM

Nothing is anywhere simply present or absent. Go Twins!

Posted by: Attyfan at May 26, 2005 08:37 PM

my twins cap is kinda like that, torhu. my TC is a few degrees off of the bill center. i don't think it was on purpose...

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:37 PM

Naw, you misunderstand me, brink.

It's hard for Rivas to earn a BOD if they never let him bat in the late innings. For all we know, he's the clutchingest hitter we got, but we never give him a shot.

Nice squeaker for Tiffee, though. Let's see if Stew can bring it home.

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 08:38 PM

*can picture BOOOOOne lying in the infield having flashbacks to Yankee Stadium*

Boy, if those two runners score, I beat CC's gonna eat Boone instead of that cheesburger under his hat.

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:38 PM

I've seen a couple of those stupid crooked hats. Just never on a major leaguer.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:38 PM

does Miller have a 0.00 ERA? wow, that's pretty special.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:38 PM

Kafumbly, I was just noticing that.

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 08:39 PM

rats!

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:39 PM

Yeah kaf, it's not even a LITTLE off, it's WAY off.

Usually the ones I see are Yankees caps. Along with those new ones where the Yankees logo is colored over the same as the cap...for some stupid reason.

*$^#*$%(*(&% STEWIE!

*sigh*

Well, time to tuck in. All those leaving now, say a few extra prayers for the rest of us.

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:39 PM

Wow, that is pretty amazing of Miller.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 08:39 PM

OK, fellow Batlings... change of plans:

WE WANT EXTRA INNINGS!!!

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:40 PM

Anybody for extra innings?

Again?

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 08:40 PM

Sigh. That was very uncool, Shannon. I can't take another extra-inning game, but at this point it's our only hope.

Has anyone noticed that pretty much every game has been incredibly similar?

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:40 PM

david, i was thinking the same thing about rob bowen. i have a theory that says he's the most clutch hitter in pro baseball but he's still languishing in the minors. free rob!

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:41 PM

Bugger.

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 08:41 PM

Dang it Bert...he's been jinxing us all night.

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:42 PM

Hi everyone... I sheepishly take responsibility for this mess. When I loaded mlb.tv, the Twins were up 4-1. Not 3 minutes later, the game was tied.

I blame myself.

Posted by: sacky at May 26, 2005 08:42 PM

Oh my. OMM vs. Hafner, in the bottom of the ninth.

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:42 PM

Nick, I've noticed. Oh boy I've noticed.

And it always seems like it's OUR fault they go into extras too.

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:43 PM

oh boy... time for a trip down MULLHOLLAND DRIVE!

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:43 PM

here comes Banjo Mulholland!

hopping down the pitcher's trail

hippity, hoppity

look at Banjo go!

yeehah!

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:43 PM

sacky, I blame you, too. :)

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:44 PM

*pardon me*

I should be chewing out Dick for jinxing us all night. He jinxed Brad before the inning of badness started.

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:44 PM

brink,

I liked Bowen. I think the whole thing about the 'veteran catcher' thing when they traded for Borders was just a smokescreen - TR was just tickled that he got someone to take B.J. Garbe off his hands.

On the other hand, the rookie has been pretty impressive in this series, and Gardy doesn't have much choice but to let him hit if he gets the chance.

But first things first - let's roll, OMM!

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 08:44 PM

sacky, i share some of the blame. i tune in, the twins are up 4-1, the indians have a dude at 2nd. "no problem!" i said to myself. "radke's on the mound, all will be fine!"

needless to say, my innocence has been torn from me tonight.

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:44 PM

Extra innings. *sigh* I can do that....

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:45 PM

oh dear, i fear
mulholland in late innings
seems so counter the goal
of increasing our Twins' winnings

Posted by: sacky at May 26, 2005 08:45 PM

I like it that some people here have been forced to eat their words about Rook's defense. :)

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:46 PM

If we must do extra innings, then we must.

What am I saying, I work 'til midnight!

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 08:46 PM

kafumbly,

Nothing personal, but I like this tune better

Old Man Mulholland,
He don't walk no one,
He must know something,
'Cause he just keeps throwin'

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 08:47 PM

Childrens's songs and doggerel? Are our intellects regressing as the innings are progressing?

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:47 PM

I consider all this talk right now jinxing.

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:47 PM

haven't seen much of jose hernandez this year... he sure dropped off the face of the earth fast...

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:48 PM

I love Terry. For years and years. I was so happy when he came to MN. :-(

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:48 PM

Did you know that the Twins infield has yet to start a double play tonight?

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 08:48 PM

Sorry, whenever I hear "Banjo Mullholand" I always think "Banjo-Kazooie"

Anybody else know what I'm talking about here?

*correction: I consider the CLIPS they play on FSN at times like these jinxes*

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:48 PM

Okay, it must be getting late. I don't usually misplace my apostrophes. Or double my plurals. I don't know if I can take this....

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:48 PM

kat,

Perhaps. Do you remember where the vessel with the pestle is?

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 08:49 PM

Yay pop-up.

Posted by: sacky at May 26, 2005 08:49 PM

Whew. I had a really bad feeling that the ball would find a way to drop.

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:49 PM

katharriet, you're very creative tonight.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:49 PM

Darn, I was hoping the reverse jinx would work...

Posted by: mk at May 26, 2005 08:49 PM

DMW: *blink* I don't know that I ever knew....

I feel like I'm through the Looking glass....

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:50 PM

the cleveland announcers are just now telling the "killer pillow" story about mull...

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:50 PM

You're one up on me, torhu.

When I hear 'Banjo Mulholland' I think of 'El Kabong!'

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 08:50 PM

oooh let's go OMM

Posted by: sacky at May 26, 2005 08:50 PM

My initials are DMV so every time I see DMW I get confused, just now figured out who it refers to.

Posted by: aurora at May 26, 2005 08:51 PM

Ah, another Batling cursed with FSN Ohio!

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:51 PM

I guess katharriet was a poet and didn't know it.

Posted by: David Michael Wintheiser at May 26, 2005 08:51 PM

Yay OMM!!!

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:51 PM

Extra innings. Yay. Where's the TUMS?

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:51 PM

oh, man, DMW... I KNOW that one!!! I just can't think of it.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:52 PM

wow, these teams have been evenly matched. sad to think that the critical edge has been the twins' lack of OF defense!

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:52 PM

Thank you, Terry. Kiss, kiss!

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:52 PM

But my feet show it, DMW. They're Longfellow's.

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:52 PM

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy we're going into extra innings rather than losing, but THIS IS THE SERIES THAT WOULD NOT DIE.

So tired... so very tired...

Posted by: CarrieIC at May 26, 2005 08:52 PM

nothing wrong with FSN ohio! it's comcast chicago/WGN that i dread!

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:53 PM

oh, no... the vessel with the pestle has the brew that is true!

Posted by: kafumbly at May 26, 2005 08:53 PM

I do love Old Man Mullholland.

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:53 PM

hey DMW, do you drive a BMW? ;-)

Posted by: brink at May 26, 2005 08:53 PM

Boy, we need Santana to come out and kick @$$ tomorrow so that we not only get a GREAT pitching performance but also can get the Bullpen and whole team a breather.

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:54 PM

Brink, they were ragging on Bert and calling him a liar.

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:54 PM

C'mon, Lew. Let's stop the ass-battery and do something.

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:54 PM

OMM, those of us who are older than you salute you! Twins hitters, get those bats going.

Posted by: Attyfan at May 26, 2005 08:54 PM

What was THAT?!

Posted by: LaurieNY at May 26, 2005 08:55 PM

I do love Old Man Mullholland.

But I really love my baby Lew. Really really.

Posted by: katharriet at May 26, 2005 08:55 PM

Yay LEEWWW!!!

Posted by: Nick at May 26, 2005 08:55 PM

Wait a minute...I didn't think Boone fielded that one.

Posted by: Torhu at May 26, 2005 08:55 PM

I think Miller is trying to look like Eric Gagne.

Oooh! LEWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

Posted by: sacky at May 26, 2005 08:55 PM

yahoo! Lew to second on a bad throw on Hernandez. is that gonna be an error?

Posted by:
