Thanks to the webgeniuses at Batgirl's friendly web host FictCo, we may have solved the game-thread-server-melting problem. We'll be giving the Game Threads a try back on Bat-girl.com, but it may be that we have to switch over to Quick Topic in the middle of the game if things start melting again. If that's the case, someone will close the comments and post the Quick Topic link up here.
Also, thanks to everyone who has bought items from the BatStore; it helps BG pay her hosts for their extremely hard work.
IMPORTANT: A message from the friendly webhost: if you want to keep the load on the server down, if you click to "Post" a comment, and it seems like the server is being a bit pokey, just wait and it should eventually go through. Clicking "Post" again will just slow things down more. Thanks!
Posted by Batgirl at May 20, 2005 06:00 PMI'm going to catch this game and bits and pieces because of an outdoorsy party (nice day for it). In fact, I'll only be able to catch one game -- Sundays -- between now and next Friday. That bodes well for the Twins. Seems I miss all the good ones.
Posted by: Kurtis at May 20, 2005 06:06 PMHurrah..Lets hope theres not a meltdown and lets hope good old chief and our boys with the boom boom stick can keep up the 3 game winning streak.
Posted by: Bojangles Crain at May 20, 2005 06:31 PMAm I going to be forever banned from BG's site if I leave at 8:30 to go to Star Wars? Lew will still love me, right?
Posted by: joel. at May 20, 2005 06:34 PMYay, game thread!!!
Joel,
I'll have to leave at 9:30 (Twins time) for the same reason. So if you won't tell anyone, I won't.

Posted by: mk at May 20, 2005 06:42 PMDoes everyone see the test post above?
Posted by: Batgirl at May 20, 2005 06:56 PMI see it. Very pretty.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 07:02 PMDear Joel,
I promise you won't be. Just come back.
Sincerely,
BG
So is the game on TV tonight in MN?
Posted by: AT at May 20, 2005 07:04 PMYep. At least I'm getting it on FSN.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 07:07 PMThanks BG! Now, how about that musical baton? ;-)
AT, the sweet sounds of Dick and Bert are blaring from my TV as I type this (OK, it's a commercial, but you get the point). Yay!
Posted by: joel. at May 20, 2005 07:07 PMOK, so I think I found the baseball channel, but it doesn't work! I'm going to be distraught.
(what an ugly word, distraught. I had to look it up to make sure it was really that ugly.)
Posted by: AT at May 20, 2005 07:08 PMMK, your secret is safe with me... and the internet.
Posted by: joel. at May 20, 2005 07:08 PMI caught the 1:45 pm Star Wars today, so I'm ready for the game, IF it bothers to show up on my tv.
Posted by: AT at May 20, 2005 07:10 PMuh oh, i forgot carlos lee plays for the brew crew
Posted by: twinsfanCA at May 20, 2005 07:13 PM*grumbles* stupid baseball gods, screwing up my TV so I can't watch the Twins... Tinger's mom is gonna be all grumpy about it too...
well, at least I get radio, which is better than usual.
Posted by: AT at May 20, 2005 07:14 PMWell all i have is gameday...though i am almost convinced to buy MLB audio
Posted by: twinsfanCA at May 20, 2005 07:17 PMI usually live in CT, but get a couple of weeks in MN, and maybe i'm being whiny (OK, I AM being whiny), but I just want to see the Twins on TV.
Posted by: AT at May 20, 2005 07:18 PMi cant blame you...
Posted by: twinsfanCA at May 20, 2005 07:20 PMClassic Punto AB
Posted by: alsntwnsfn at May 20, 2005 07:21 PMC'mon Mau Pow
Posted by: alskntwnsfn at May 20, 2005 07:22 PMDang, the Chairman got robbed.
Does anyone else keep wanting to call this pitcher Gary Glitter?
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 07:24 PMI must say, the sweet sounds of dick and bert are also coming over mlb.tv. also you guys leaving the game for star wars are slackers. I saw a 12:01 showing on thursday!
Posted by: TwinsInBoston at May 20, 2005 07:25 PMUh-oh. Bags juiced.
Posted by: alskntwnsfn at May 20, 2005 07:26 PMBases Loaded. Is this good or bad?
Posted by: TwinsInBoston at May 20, 2005 07:27 PMCuddy's sending good vibes to Hunter from the Dugout.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 07:27 PMGood Lord.
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 07:27 PM...First pitch
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 07:27 PMyeah saw that coming...so much worse to actually see it on TV.
Posted by: Mark at May 20, 2005 07:28 PMAAAARRRRGH!
Posted by: Shibby at May 20, 2005 07:28 PMUgh, I knew that wouldn't end well.
Posted by: Shaun at May 20, 2005 07:28 PMHow many times is Gardy going to have to tell him...FIRST PITCH SWINGNING = bad!
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 07:28 PMdangnabit
Posted by: TwinsInBoston at May 20, 2005 07:28 PMyup everyone knows he is swinging at the 1st pitch...he is never going to get his pitch...thats just flat out dumb baseball by torii
Posted by: twinsfanCA at May 20, 2005 07:29 PMOh, Torii... bummer. And my TV just worked again for like 30 seconds, during a commercial. Nuts.
Posted by: AT at May 20, 2005 07:29 PMTypical rally-killer Tori Hunter, on one pitch no less.
Posted by: Evan at May 20, 2005 07:30 PMAnd that's why Morneau's going to have a heck of time getting a good pitch to hit.
They don't have to pitch to Morneau because they can just rely on Torii to end whatever situation they're in.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 07:30 PMTwinsinBoston,
Sadly, I couldn't get out of work last night--unlike tonight.
MK
Posted by: mk at May 20, 2005 07:31 PMSpeaking of first-pitch swinging, Silva's thrown 13 pitches in two innings -- an average of less than two per batter.
The difference is that the Brewers' strategy is probably to swing early. Glover's been struggling with his control, and we should definitely be taking early.
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 07:32 PM2 IP, 13 pitches
So are the Twins pitchers now planning on having the fewest pitches thrown per game to go along w/ the fewest walks per game
Posted by: TBird41 at May 20, 2005 07:33 PMmk, it was thursday morning
well, at least we got out of that quickly. someone neets to smack torii around a bit in the dugout though
Posted by: TwinsInBoston at May 20, 2005 07:33 PMGardy has to move Torii back in the order - I CAN'T STAND to watch him GIDP with the meat of our order juicing the bases. Unacceptable.
Realistically, if he starts trying for slap singles in those situations instead of trying to be the hero, we're 2, 3 games behind the White Sox. Torii hitting like that in the 5 slot could cost us 10 or 12 games over the course of the season.
Posted by: Haplo at May 20, 2005 07:33 PMI think Nick's got a point about the Brewers. Twins pitchers are throwing strikes, they're known for getting that first pitch in there.
So they swing because they figure they're going to get a not to bad pitch to start out.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 07:35 PMBert--"well, when you hear me say it's a duck fart, that's a texas leaguer".
I missed Dick and Bert
Posted by: TBird41 at May 20, 2005 07:37 PMGood movement on the bases for JJ. A good throw gets him at second, but the Brewers' catcher has an arm about as accurate as Big LeRoy's.
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 07:38 PMTwinsinBoston,
True. I work second shift and don't normally get out until around midnight, so my sense of "today" and "tomorrow" is a little skewed...
MK
Posted by: mk at May 20, 2005 07:38 PMSo if my TV doesn't start working soon, Tinger's mom and I will be watching Muppet Wizard of Oz, which I admit to being excited about, but I'd much rather watch the Twins and just wait til that Muppet deal comes out on video.
Posted by: AT at May 20, 2005 07:38 PMAttaway, DJ!!
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 07:39 PMaight Cuddy, get Jacque in
Posted by: TBird41 at May 20, 2005 07:39 PMYay Cuddy! That's how it's done!
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 07:39 PMWoo! Way to be DJ!
Posted by: Shibby at May 20, 2005 07:39 PMGood job Cuddy
Posted by: TBird41 at May 20, 2005 07:39 PMNice RBI there, Cuddy!
Posted by: mk at May 20, 2005 07:39 PMAnd the Hit/Run! Executed like we know we can do it.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 07:40 PMYay! Cuddy didn't get hit by the ball this time. :)
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 07:40 PMNow Juan's chipping in! Let's go STEEEEEEWWWWWWWWW
Posted by: TBird41 at May 20, 2005 07:40 PMYay! A duck fart!
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 07:42 PMVICTORY IS MINE! exclaimed Stewie with the duck fart.
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 07:42 PMSTEWWWWW!
Posted by: Shibby at May 20, 2005 07:42 PMhahaha!!! That was awesome!!
Posted by: TBird41 at May 20, 2005 07:42 PMSo far, so good!! Great hitting tonight.
Posted by: Shaun at May 20, 2005 07:43 PMSeen on the news ticker on the Gameday screen:
"Baseball as America" stops in Houston.
So, what about the baseball west of Houston?
Posted by: mk at May 20, 2005 07:43 PMFamily Guy references rule! Thank the Baseball God's we've got a Stew on our team ;)
Now if only there was a Peter. Duck fart would work well with that one!
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 07:44 PMLNP!
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 07:46 PMmk, i see, well enjoy the movie. It's pretty good and answers a lot of the questions.
let's just blow this open now!
Posted by: TwinsInBoston at May 20, 2005 07:46 PM...and the merry-go-round goes round and round...
Posted by: mk at May 20, 2005 07:47 PMGreat observation about LNP -- he's seen more pitches from Glover than the Brewers have seen from Silva. And there he goes. Da duhh da da... hey!
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 07:47 PMWhoo hoo! Hey BG, why don't people's names give their e-mail addresses anymore?
Posted by: twink at May 20, 2005 07:47 PMOh, and that observation was from Dick/Bert, not me. Don't want to sound cocky or anything. :)
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 07:47 PMI must say, since I am in WI I am watching the Milwaukee broadcast, its nice to hear visiting announcers who are respectful unlike some.
Plus, LNP does it again!!
Posted by: Shaun at May 20, 2005 07:48 PMNice--chased him in the 2nd. Not that I would have minded had he stuck around a little longer...
Posted by: twink at May 20, 2005 07:48 PMThey should've walked Punto to load the bases. They didn't realize we can't hit when the bases are full.
Posted by: aztwinsfan at May 20, 2005 07:48 PMIf not for Torii...we'd probably be in the first still ;)
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 07:49 PMok, so i step out of the room and we're up 3-0, i come back and the inning ends...
I'm gonna step out of the room for a bit and hopefully when i get back there will be a massive lead
So I have ESPN news on in the background (I'm watching the Twins on mlb.tv)and right in the corner is "Brandon Webb has a no hitter through 6 innings".
Now, that's just not fair. I mean, it's hard enough to throw a no hitter. Then you factor in the radio and TV announcers for both teams jinxing him (you know they are, b/c that's the kind of stupid things that announcers do). Then add in all of the opposing teams fans trying to jinx him (kinda like what we did w/ Kazmir) AND THEN add in ESPN news broadcasting this jinx. I mean, at that point, it's guaranteed he's going to give up a hit.
Posted by: TBird41 at May 20, 2005 07:49 PMToo bad he doesn't play for CHW. His own annoucer would do it.
OOOH! No place to put Morneau now!
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 07:51 PMDang it... I tried to tell the Chairman not to take a walk here. I really did. Well, let's go Doctor!
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 07:51 PMHey, Brandon Webb is on my fantasy team!
Hehe, Dick and Bert telling us to turn away. *sigh*
ok, never mind me, im just crazy, i looked away for a sec and when i looked back it was in commercial. time to simulcast with sportsline so i dont act stupid again
Posted by: TwinsInBoston at May 20, 2005 07:51 PMI LOVE DICK. You can turn around right now twins fans as the bases are loaded...haha
Posted by: jill at May 20, 2005 07:51 PMAlways makes me happy when the first thing an opposing pitcher does when he comes into the game is give up a walk!
Posted by: twink at May 20, 2005 07:51 PMIf i were them, I'd walk him to. Better 1 run than 4.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 07:52 PMIt's Deja Vu all over again.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 07:53 PMDear Twink,
We have no idea. We're working on it.
Love,
BG
Good call, Torhu!
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 07:53 PMI'm starting to think Dr. should strike out so we can put the 2-out mojo up against the bases loaded bad luck.
Hm, a walk. Intriguing. Didn't really see that coming.
Posted by: joel. at May 20, 2005 07:53 PMSomebody get a dictionary, I think we've got Irony here.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 07:53 PMThank God, he missed the first pitch.
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 07:54 PMWow, walking in a run as the 2nd thing he does is even better! I think I like this pitcher better than the last!
Posted by: twink at May 20, 2005 07:54 PMC'mon Torii!!! Shut up all the critics and hit a bomb!
Posted by: TBird41 at May 20, 2005 07:54 PMThis is Torii's spot in the lineup at stake right here.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 07:55 PMWow. Just wow. He did it again. You almost have to try to do that.
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 07:56 PMI hear boobirds. That's completely justified.
Posted by: joel. at May 20, 2005 07:56 PMJeez, Torii...
Posted by: Shibby at May 20, 2005 07:56 PM....I'd drop him to 7th behind Jones and Cuddyer tomorrow.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 07:56 PMOh, Torii.
Posted by: Batgirl at May 20, 2005 07:56 PMIt is almost impossible to make 4 of the first 6 outs in a ballgame, but the rally-killer somehow managed it.
Posted by: Evan at May 20, 2005 07:57 PMTorii... wtf? wtf?
Posted by: mongo at May 20, 2005 07:57 PMOkay, if this happens every inning, projections on what the final numbers will be?
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 07:57 PMTorii what the hell was that? Man, I was hoping he would strike out instead!
Posted by: Shaun at May 20, 2005 07:58 PMIs there address I can send hate mail to?
Posted by: Haplo at May 20, 2005 07:58 PMHow would you like to be Morneau? It's not fun to break up double plays every inning. Hunter's going to get him killed.
Posted by: aztwinsfan at May 20, 2005 07:58 PM^&$#^&%#^E#^###&^$&^%$&^%&^
That's all I have to say.
Poor Torii. Maybe everyone ripping on him will have the same effect on him as it did on Cuddyer.
Posted by: TBird41 at May 20, 2005 07:59 PMIt looks like Torii caught whatever hitting bug Cuddy had picked up in April.
Posted by: mk at May 20, 2005 07:59 PMPudge broke up the no-hitter with one out in the 7th.
Posted by: aztwinsfan at May 20, 2005 07:59 PMYay JJ!!!
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 08:00 PM::applause!::
Posted by: joel. at May 20, 2005 08:00 PMIf I were Morneau "aztTwin", I'd be pissed. I'm getting on base now, and he's not doing anything to help that.
Meanwhile....WOOO! That's the play he NEEDED to make. See, Jones learned from his mistake Torii!
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:00 PMYAY JACQUE!!!!
Posted by: kbrew at May 20, 2005 08:00 PMNo mortal could possible overcome the amount of jinxing that Webb was facing. Basically, only Randy Johnson could.
And WHAT A PLAY BY JACQUE!!!
Posted by: TBird41 at May 20, 2005 08:00 PM"Baseball as America" is a photo exhibit.
Posted by: BAT bandwagoner at May 20, 2005 08:00 PMWOOOO!
Posted by: Shibby at May 20, 2005 08:00 PMMan, Jacque's cannon makes another appearance. What a play!!
Posted by: Shaun at May 20, 2005 08:01 PMWOOO! What an inning!
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:02 PMBandwagoner,
I know. I'm just noting how absurd the headline sounds out of context, is all.
MK
Posted by: mk at May 20, 2005 08:02 PMOuch.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:05 PMLEEEEEEEWWWW!
Posted by: Shibby at May 20, 2005 08:06 PMAnd hits for all*
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:06 PMLEEEEEEEWWWW!
Posted by: Shibby at May 20, 2005 08:07 PMGood job Lewwwww! Now Torii, please please watch Mikey!
Posted by: kbrew at May 20, 2005 08:07 PMHey, double the post for a double for Lew!
Posted by: mk at May 20, 2005 08:08 PM....That was a mean pitch.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:08 PMuhmm.. next time :)
Posted by: kbrew at May 20, 2005 08:09 PMWell, at least Hunbter can't make 2 outs this inning. :-)
Posted by: Evan at May 20, 2005 08:09 PMI guarantee the Dbacks' announcer Thom Brennaman mentioned the no-no as well during live play. He's done it before. And it appears Webb lost the no-no right about the time it began to be mentioned...hate the "jinx."
Posted by: BAT bandwagner at May 20, 2005 08:09 PMHehe, sorry...I got some wierd error message.
That, or I'm just so excited to A) be able to watch the game here in 'Sconnie, and B) that we're getting hits with RISP!
Posted by: Shibby at May 20, 2005 08:09 PMOK, apparently Darth Vader is calling a little early. I have to meet my party at the theater a bit earlier than expected. Keep it up Jackal! Go Twins!
Posted by: joel. at May 20, 2005 08:12 PMWow, Mays is such a natural!
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 08:14 PMWow!!! Castro is so fabulous in the field.
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 08:15 PMThat was just an INCRDIBLE play by Castro!
Now THIS is the Twins defense that we've been used to depend on seeing!
Web Gem!
Boy, playing like this, Castro would've been the opening day SS for sure.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:17 PMHey, Lew's wife is in the booth! This is a good thing. Maybe they should do a split screen with the booth on one side and the game on the other...
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 08:20 PMAnd she's a very articulate woman, too. Lew's a lucky man.
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 08:21 PMwhere is the legovision?
Posted by: Mark at May 20, 2005 08:21 PMAs opposed to making 74 errors during spring training!
Posted by: Batgirl at May 20, 2005 08:21 PMLegovision of what?
Posted by: Batgirl at May 20, 2005 08:22 PMCome on, LNP. Dare to dream!
Posted by: mk at May 20, 2005 08:22 PMPunto + Stewart = 6 - 6
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:22 PMI agree Nick. Lucky Lew.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:23 PMIs LNP throwing down the BOD gauntlet on Stewie???
It's like that Mia Hamm/Michael Jordan commercial...
some legovision artwork in that book they are promoting...
Posted by: Mark at May 20, 2005 08:24 PMWay to set the table guys!
Posted by: kbrew at May 20, 2005 08:24 PMWho's the second wife?
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:24 PMOh, hey! Where's the Legovision!
Posted by: Batgirl at May 20, 2005 08:24 PMThat would be the lovely Second Lady, Torhu.
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 08:25 PMPlease, please Doctor! DO NOT walk!!
Posted by: kbrew at May 20, 2005 08:25 PMMrs. Vice-President.
Posted by: Batgirl at May 20, 2005 08:25 PMSo *that's* what the QuickSwing is for!
Posted by: mk at May 20, 2005 08:25 PMHere's the thing. If Morneau walks...it's a chance at redeption for Torii.
Or course...with his day, it'd be a Triple Play.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:27 PMWhew... he struck out.
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 08:27 PM...1 out, man on first. Yep, must be a Hunter at bat.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:28 PMratz... I guess I should watch out for what I wish for!
That's ok... go Torii!
Torii: "...but this time it'll *really* work!"
Posted by: mk at May 20, 2005 08:28 PMWell, he gets an RBI.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:29 PMHooray! A good result!
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 08:29 PMHere's what I wondered, when they aren't in the booth, do the wives have a section where they go for games?
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:30 PMWell, Lew. Your wife is watching. Don't screw up ;)
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:30 PMOh, I hope she stays up in the booth for the pitching change. This has a chance to be an all-time great moment in the cuteness department.
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 08:31 PMThey all sit behind home, about halfway up!
Posted by: Batgirl at May 20, 2005 08:31 PMOh, poo. But she still loves him.
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 08:34 PMWhat's the pitch count right now?
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:36 PMThey need to stop this part of the stadium thing. We're getting the stadium...I WANT the stadium.
Geez, why not be fair and find somebody who doesn't want it or doesn't care.
I just want to have a team.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:37 PMSee what they did! They bring up the stadium thing and look what happens.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:37 PMAmazing.
Posted by: Batgirl at May 20, 2005 08:39 PMAlright, gave up a longball. No big deal, you had a bad inning. Mays did too and still had a great night.
Don't worry, Silva. The hitters will come up here and get a run to make ya feel better bout losing the shutout.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:41 PM44 pitches through 5 innings. It's a Mays-like effort for the Jackal so far. I love this!
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 08:43 PMThat is one GONE ball.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:45 PMAnd there you go!
Posted by: Batgirl at May 20, 2005 08:45 PMWow, nice shot Castro!
Posted by: Shibby at May 20, 2005 08:46 PMWow, someone must have told Castro that chicks dig the long ball :)
Posted by: talldrinkowater at May 20, 2005 08:46 PMHe must've heard that the Mrs. Ford and Nathan were in the booth ;)
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:49 PMBOD! BOD! Punto's probably SEEN as many pitches as Silva's thrown tonight.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:51 PMSorry for the stats, but a couple of quick calculations (...carry the 2...):
Punto's seen 30 pitches so far.
Posted by: mk at May 20, 2005 08:53 PMThere we go. Now smile for the audience :)
Way to make up for the last play.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:55 PMYou beat me to it, MK.
LNP had just a four-pitch AB in the fourth when he doubled. :) Otherwise, he's faced 11, 7, and 8 pitches.
And how about that? A three-pitch inning, and there was even a hit! I'm not sure I've ever seen that.
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 08:56 PMNow *that's* economy.
Posted by: mk at May 20, 2005 08:56 PMthat had to of been one of the ugliest DP's ive ever seen... that thing looked like it would fall apart on both throws
nice 3 pitch inning by silva. radkesque looking
Posted by: TwinsInBoston at May 20, 2005 08:57 PMSilva just caught up to Glover's pitch count--when he was pulled in the second inning!
Posted by: mk at May 20, 2005 08:57 PMThat's incredible, for both Punto and Silva.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:57 PMThe Jackal's on pace to complete the game on 70 pitches according to Dick. My Minnesota math indicates that that's about right.
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 08:58 PMSomebody should tell that while it's important to get to Radke and Santana early in the pitching count, its NOT the right way to attack Silva! or wait.... lets not....
Posted by: kbrew at May 20, 2005 08:58 PMLet's not jinx Jackal.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 08:59 PMGood point, Torhu. My new prediction is that he'll throw 50 pitches in the next inning.
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 08:59 PMCant' hit a DP with nobody on base. Now what ya do Torii?
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 09:00 PMThat'd have been a DP. Way to stay on track ;)
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 09:01 PMwow...he took the first pitch. It's a start
Posted by: TwinsInBoston at May 20, 2005 09:01 PM44 PITCHES THRU 5 INNINGS. SO WHAT DO YOU DO ? 3 BATTERS SWING AT FIRST PITCH EACH ? PATHETIC !
DOUGIE UPDATE - STRUCK OUT WITH BASES LOADED IN FIRST (HE FITS RIGHT IN WITH THE CURRENT GROUP); ERROR IN 6TH ALLOWS YANKS TO EXTEND THEIR LEAD. WE MISS YOU DOUGIE BASEBALL. NOT !!!!
Has Torii looked this bad at the plate all season? He almost looks indifferent up there.
Posted by: Mark at May 20, 2005 09:03 PMTorii Hunter is my Twins boyfriend...especially defensively. But lately with the GIDPs and bad at-bats, I am wondering if I should dump him for, say, LNP.
Posted by: talldrinkowater at May 20, 2005 09:04 PMWhoa, Anthony. Slow down, take a couple of deep breaths. It'll be okay...
Posted by: mk at May 20, 2005 09:05 PMAFJ...what was that? Dougie makes a rare error and you hop on him just like that?
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 09:06 PMQuestion about the dome. I always notice that the section in foul territory next to theleft field foul pole is always empty. Does anyone know why this is?
Posted by: TwinsInBoston at May 20, 2005 09:07 PMSeven pitches. Wow.
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 09:07 PMJeez...7 pitches.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 09:07 PMI wonder what the fewest pitches thrown in a complete major league game is.
Posted by: talldrinkowater at May 20, 2005 09:08 PMTIB, that section is I think 10 or so dollars more than the HomeRun porch.
So when people see that those are the only seats left in that part of the field, they figure just move over a section and get in homerun territory. Save some money that way.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 09:09 PMTIB: I always thought it was because the left field seats are cheaper, but better. They actually face the plate, for one thing.
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 09:09 PMRed Barrett of the Boston Braves tossed a fifty-eight pitch shutout over the Cincinnati Reds on August 10th for a 2-0 victory and a Major League record for fewest pitches in a nine-inning game. The outing itself set a record as the shortest night game ever at one hour and fifteen minutes.
From Baseball Almanac
Posted by: BAT bandwagoner at May 20, 2005 09:10 PMWhat they should do is take those two sections and put the price in between that of the foul section and that of the homerun section.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 09:10 PMThanks BAT Band:
I knew someone would find that factoid!
Posted by: talldrinkowater at May 20, 2005 09:10 PMPitch count through Gordo's National Anthem:
Brewers: 144, Jackal: 54
Posted by: mk at May 20, 2005 09:11 PM1944 BTW
Posted by: Bat bandwagoner at May 20, 2005 09:11 PMUnreal
This would be a really short game (timewise) if not for Milwaukee pitching (not that I am complaining...)
Posted by: talldrinkowater at May 20, 2005 09:12 PMMan, seriously...what's gotten into Cuddy? Not that I'm complaining :)
Posted by: Shibby at May 20, 2005 09:12 PMTrue the seats just next to it are cheaper, but the section is always emptier than the upper deck outfield seats during the mid 90's. there must be some people who would rather sit there than a similar seat in the upper deck. plus the not facing home plate thing isnt all that bad. Ive sat in seats in fenway that you are looking into the bullpen if you face foreward.
Posted by: TwinsInBoston at May 20, 2005 09:12 PMI just may have to purchase a copy of the Baseball Almanac.
Posted by: talldrinkowater at May 20, 2005 09:13 PMMinty just got a hit in the Mets game. woo hoo.
Beat the yankees.
sorry yankee fan. but must despise yankees today, must destroy evil empire.
Meet the Mets, Meet the Mets. Come right out and greet the Mets.
The two best lines in the greatest sports song ever.
That is what the Twins need, a theme song like "Meet the Mets".
Posted by: metsfan at May 20, 2005 09:13 PMWell, despite the Jackal's best efforts I must make my run for the Sith. BG, I'm happy that the Game Threads are back in order!
The Twins do have a theme song, Metsfan. It's fabulous.
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 09:14 PMWe have a theme song
We're gonna win Twins
We're gonna score
We're gonna win Twins

metsfan-our theme song is pretty good. Especially if you listen to the second verse. its ridiculous.
ok, silva time.

Any idea as to what the other spots behind 58 would be? Let's say he ends up going 70.

Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 09:21 PMwhat? he gave us a bonus point in his stadium/team rankings for the theme song.
Posted by: TwinsInBoston at May 20, 2005 09:22 PMGeez-looks like the ass-gloves got routed to NYC tonight...Mets/Yanks with 5 errors total so far...
Posted by: BAT bandwagoner at May 20, 2005 09:22 PMHe threw 13 in the sixth, and 10 one other time. So five innings so far in the single digits for pitches!
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 09:22 PMif he throws under 80 pitches does he get to start again tomorrow???
Posted by: dregn at May 20, 2005 09:22 PMPoor Punto. If it weren't for Silva he'd be the guy having the night ;)
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 09:23 PMI am in a quandary: Should I keep sweetcheeks as my Twins boyfriend, or should I dump him for LNP...
Posted by: talldrinkowater at May 20, 2005 09:25 PMThe Brewers announcers are raving about Carlos' 64 pitches. Man, if the Jackal keeps this up-and with LNP being solid, that Eric Milton trade continues to look like sure genius.
Posted by: Shaun at May 20, 2005 09:26 PMOh, and here's verse 2 of the theme song, i managed to download it a couple months ago.

Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 09:30 PMGotta love LNP advancing whenever it's humanly possible.
Posted by: TwinsInBoston at May 20, 2005 09:30 PMmaybe they should swap DJ Cuddles for Sweetcheeks in the lineup
Posted by: talldrinkowater at May 20, 2005 09:30 PMTorhu: stop reading my mind!
Posted by: talldrinkowater at May 20, 2005 09:31 PMThis pitcher is one seriously funny looking dude.
Posted by: Batgirl at May 20, 2005 09:31 PMTIB, so you actually have an mp3 (or another format) of the song? Boy, I'd love to have that. Any idea where you got it?
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 09:31 PMTrue dat, BG!
Posted by: talldrinkowater at May 20, 2005 09:31 PMI think that'd work. They don't worry about Hunter enough to actually pitch to Morneau. Get a guy whose hitting well, and they'll HAVE to give Morneau a decent ball.
It's kinda like Bonds in SF. They'd just walk him because the guy hitting after him never could do anything.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 09:32 PMNick, I have the MP3 too
he looks funnier than Bronson Arroyo with the cornrows last year. And that was definitely the most ridiculous pitcher look of all of last year
Posted by: TwinsInBoston at May 20, 2005 09:32 PMre: TBB
Punto was at the mercy of Hunter's AB's...
Posted by: Bat bandwagoner at May 20, 2005 09:33 PMNick, it's an MP3, i got it on i2Hub, but i could send it over AIM. It's not that big.
Posted by: TwinsInBoston at May 20, 2005 09:34 PMThat guy's so worried he can't keep his gum in.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 09:35 PMTBB=Team Batgirl Boyfriends!
Posted by: Batgirl at May 20, 2005 09:35 PMHas he even walked one?
Regarding # of pitches in a complete game. What's the record for fewest since they lowered the mounds? I forget what year that happened but it definitely made it a lot harder to pitch complete games on low pitch counts.
Posted by: TwinsInBoston at May 20, 2005 09:36 PMOh, man.
Posted by: Batgirl at May 20, 2005 09:37 PM74 pitches!!!

Oh hell...sorry...conditioned response to a lifetime of baseball stats...I was thinking Total Bases...although not quite sure what I thought the second "B" was for...ok, I WASN'T thinking...heh, heh
Besides, it's more in keeping with Punto's "secret identity" that he continues to finish a "close second."

Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 09:40 PMTDOW, if you would, I'd love it if you'd email those songs to me. Send them to hydu0011 -at- umn dot edu.
Thanks! And Silva rules!
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 09:40 PMIt looks like the pitcher once again makes the BOD a no-brainer. Way to go, Carlos.
Posted by: Kurtis at May 20, 2005 09:41 PMThere's a "Circle Me Bert" song??
Posted by: Nick at May 20, 2005 09:41 PMBoy, the Twins pitching staff really has me optimistic for this season! Radke-Santana and now Silva-Mays plus Kyle had a good game last time. Throw in our lights out bullpen and I'm liking the Twins chances.
I believe, that the Twins now are #1 in complete games in the American?
Posted by: kbrew at May 20, 2005 09:41 PM
I know the mounds were lowered in '69...and that's a great question. I'll see if I can find it though.

Posted by: Batgirl at May 20, 2005 09:47 PMPeople, that was beautiful. Just beautiful. When my TV started working I had to go upstairs to watch the game with Tinger's mom. She loves a dominant complete game, as does the whole family.
Good times. Go Twins.

Posted by: TwinsInBoston at May 20, 2005 09:48 PMRadke and Santana have some good vibes coming into their starts now this weekend. Hopefully Radke can stay reliable, and Santana can be inspiried.
People, we didn't just see good pitching tonight, our defense and hitting were on.
Today everything game together, and it was beautiful.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 09:49 PMOh, and CBS Sportsline already has the game recap up. of the 74 pitches, 54 strikes
Posted by: TwinsInBoston at May 20, 2005 09:50 PMThey better make a big deal about the Jackal's outing tonite on BBT or I'll be a little cranky! He deserves the recognition for his pitching!
Posted by: kbrew at May 20, 2005 09:51 PMI don't think it'll get more than a mention (thoguh Kreuk gave us the nod for the "Most Important Thing" last night for Mays' 94 pitch shut out)
We barely got noticed for that 3-Straight CG Shutout Miracle against KC last year.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 09:52 PMSigh.... you're probably right Torhu. It's already starting, on the FSN BBR, it started with Bonds' knee and then concern whether Steinbrenner is still mad about the Yankees poor start... grrr!!
Baseball DOES exist more than 100 miles west of the Atlantic coastline and outside of San Francisco.
That's always how it is. Bad or not, the Yankees will make the news. And Bonds makes the news when he SNEEZES.
What? He did. Last year he sneezed and pulled a muscle. Left him on the DL for like a week or two.
Posted by: Torhu at May 20, 2005 09:58 PMI do not have the Circle Me Bert song....but I would like it. mrsdude @ earthlink dot net.
Posted by: talldrinkowater at May 20, 2005 10:06 PMTDOW,
I too would love the "Talkin' Baseball" song, and if you have the Twins theme as well, that would be cool. bubblemint16@msn.com
Batgirl,
I also love the Muppets. And "The Wizard of OZ". I was so grateful to be at the game tonight, and even as I sat there in the first couple of innings, I was in a good mood knowing I had my VCR running at home to tape the "Muppets Wiz of OZ".
Who knew how good a mood I'd be after watching history in the making at the Dome this evening?
And to think I allowed myself to be distracted by the swastika thing on the ceiling for about 45 seconds.
Oh, and to everyone who was going to see Star Wars, I hope you enjoyed it. I went last night, and though I wouldn't ever say it was as good as the original, it was definitely the best of this trilogy.
I came close to tears looking at the two suns of Tatooine...made me want to run home and watch "A New Hope". I didn't, but it probably won't be too long before I do. ;-)
Oh, and to anyone else who's as big a geek as I admit to being, I now admit that I DID cry at the final episode of "Enterprise" last week.
Just knowing it really is over, at least for the forseeable future, really hit me unexpectedly.
I had watched the whole thing, never even choked up.
Wasn't even close to tears.
Hadn't even really thought about it.
Then suddenly:
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: "Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. It's continuing mission..."
Captain James Tiberius Kirk: "to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations..."
Captain Jonathan Archer: "to boldly go where no man has gone before."
I lost it. Completely sobbed.
I can't even believe it.
What a weenie baby geek I am.
I wonder if Lew felt the same way??
OK, I just got back. 74 pitches!? Whaaaaaaat? Is that even POSSIBLE for 9 innings? I'm speechless. Holy cow.
As for the movie, I'm not a huge SW buff, but hearing that first Vader breath gave me chills. Yipes. Good flick.
74!? !
Posted by: joel. at May 20, 2005 11:37 PMWhere can I get the "Circle Me Bert" song. I guess there is an "It's Bert's Birthday" song too.
Posted by: talldrinkowater at May 20, 2005 11:47 PMBubblemint, I say cry at whatever TV/movies you happen to cry at, and that's fine, and don't apologize for it. Recently I've started crying at movie previews, which is pretty ridiculous.
And I'm jealous that you taped the Muppets. I was flipping to it between Twins innings - I missed Carlos' 3-pitch inning for the Muppets. Oh well.
Posted by: AT at May 20, 2005 11:55 PMAT,
I always cry at the Wizard of OZ too.
Especially when Dorothy says to the Scarecrow "I think I'll miss you most of all"...
I suppose I'll probably cry when Dorothy says it to Kermit the Scarecrow too. Though I don't know if Kermit will be able to convey that look of love and concern on his face as well as Ray Bolger does so beautifully in the original.
Much as I love Muppets, they are rather limited in their facial expressions at times.
I'm also curious to see what it is that Gonzo the Tin Thing asks for from the Wizard...a nose job perhaps? ;-)
I think I'll go watch it now and find out.
Goodnight!!
