There is a movement afoot to have a Boo rally at the Dome tonight. Make your plans below!

As I mentioned on another link, I will be at the new Foul Pole Beer Garden (northwest end of the plaza, next to the light rail station) at approximately 5:15 - 5:30.

And I just got permission from the Lady Herself to hang a "Batgirl" sign as a rallying point.

See y'all there!!!!

Posted by: Heraldguy at May 13, 2005 02:23 PM

214! 214! 214!

See ya'll there, don't forget to get there early for the Kent Hrbek Rapala Fishing Lure.

Posted by: HooliganKat at May 13, 2005 02:24 PM

Will you be at the game, Batgirl? We'd love to meet you and whatever representatives of TBB are present.

Posted by: Kurtis at May 13, 2005 02:27 PM

argh! I want to change my plans now and meet batlings instead of my friends....

Posted by: aurora at May 13, 2005 02:28 PM

But Batlings are your friends.

You just haven't met them yet.

Posted by: heraldguy at May 13, 2005 02:32 PM

Dearest Mr. Kurtis,

BG herself seems to have lots of phlegm living inside her lungs and darest not get near any of her beloved Batlings, or, for that matter, the Minnesota Twins.

Mournfully,
BG

Posted by: Batgirl at May 13, 2005 02:33 PM

I can't come tonight because i'm going to the MIAC conference track meet @ Macalester. I'm going to the game on Sunday though. Can't pass up a Bobblehead Day. =D

Posted by: Thart at May 13, 2005 02:40 PM

Heraldguy, I shall not get off work early enough to meet at the Foul Pole, and I plan to head into the Dome right when I get there, lest the "good" Cheap Seats fill up before my arrival. (I hate having to climb all those stairs.)

aurora, dump your old friends and come meet your new ones! they'll understand, I'm sure. ;)

Posted by: kafumbly at May 13, 2005 02:43 PM

and Batgirl, I hope you feel better soon.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 13, 2005 02:44 PM

I've acutally only met one of them the other two are her friends.

tempting... I may see if I can tlak Jenny into swingin by the Foul Pole at the very least.

Posted by: aurora at May 13, 2005 02:44 PM

I can't make it tonight as I have graduation, but I will be there Sunday if any 'lings are going. Anyone else going to see the Chairman tomorrow in Apple Valley?

Posted by: Stacy at May 13, 2005 02:46 PM

Oh and yes, may BG feel better soon.

Posted by: Stacy at May 13, 2005 02:47 PM

Hail Batgirl, full of grace, the Twins are with thee; blessed art thou among batgirls...

Posted by: Jeb at May 13, 2005 02:47 PM

Congratulations, Stacy!
Woot!

Posted by: Jeb at May 13, 2005 02:49 PM

Because my friend is a Twins fan (and good people like him are hard to come by), I let him talk me into postponing my Boo-welcoming until Saturday. He said something about not wanting to take a vacation day.

Give Juan a big round of applause for me, okay? I will do my best to make up for it tomorrow night.

I do not think we will make it to Apple Valley in time to see Joe, but I do plan to go there later in the afternoon. No Twins weekend is complete without a trip to my favorite Pro Shop.

Posted by: Say Rah! at May 13, 2005 02:51 PM

Just got a call from my friend and it will just be her and I so maybe I can meet people there! yay!

and now I am going to start getting ready to go home, so later y'all

Posted by: aurora at May 13, 2005 03:06 PM

I can't make it to the game tonight, and it doesn't look like I'll be able to watch the first few innings either unless it starts raining in the next few hours (the sky is clearing so I doubt it). Please cheer for Boo for me. Hopefully the parade won't last too long and I can see him pitch!

Kent Hrbek Rapala Fishing Lure

Are they really giving away a lure at a baseball game ? I have never heard of that before. I wonder if the Yanks would ever do a Yogi or Scooter crankbait.

Posted by: mike at May 13, 2005 03:12 PM

they really are, its fishing opener weekend!

Posted by: aurora at May 13, 2005 03:12 PM

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I'm meeting a friend for dinner before the game with the Blue Jays on tuesday. As one of those outstate Minnesotans that usually eats dinner at the game in the form of multiple dome dogs, I don't really know the culinary situation in the area immediately surrounding the dome.

What are everybody's favorite restaurants right around the Dome? I'm not talking super nice, but preferably something a few steps above dome dogs. Thanks in advance, fellow batlings!

Posted by: Blue Ox at May 13, 2005 03:14 PM

Ah its opening weekend. We did trout 2 weeks ago. It makes a little more sense But I thought the lure would look like Hrbek. Is it smallmouth season or trout season ?

Posted by: mike at May 13, 2005 03:21 PM

Blue Ox, I hear the Thai place on Washington/Park is really good, but if you have difficulty with your digestive system after that sort of food, you may not want to try it. :)

Stacy and other Batlings, I shall be in 214 Saturday and Sunday, as well. at least, I hope in 214 on Sunday; I've never been to the Dome on bobblehead day, so I'm not sure what kind of crowds to expect.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 13, 2005 03:27 PM

Bat-Girl: Sorry to hear about your condition. We'll where our rally caps for you.

Blue Ox: Dining near the dome: If you're willing to walk a few blocks, there's some good ethnic restaurants near the West Bank campus of the University. There's also all-American places like Grandma's. Stay on Washington Ave for the best restaurant browsing.

Posted by: Kurtis at May 13, 2005 03:35 PM

I would suggest Grumpy's on Washington for pregame fare. It's just a hop skip and a jump away from the dome and has great tatertots w/melted cheese. The Deep fried Mac-n-cheese is good and the burgers are downright addicting. They also have an interesting concotion of alcohol that strangely tastes like a steak.

Posted by: HooliganKat at May 13, 2005 03:35 PM

infield, mlb.com made my jersey wrong, so there's no number on the front. I didn't really notice until AFTER my boyfriend signed it, so there's nothing I can do about it now.

just wanted you to know that because you won't see a 36 on the front of my jersey.

double-a, do you wish to join us? I'm not sure I have enough stuff with me to save four extra spots, but I can try.

Posted by: kafumbly at May 13, 2005 03:38 PM

Hi--Blue Ox, if you can't quite make that step up yet, I recommend a cheeseburger or cheese curds from Kennedy concessions out on the plaza. The stand is located right by the Foul Pole so you can meet some of the others as well:) I've had the corndogs and they're worth writing home about too!!

kafumbly, bobblehead mornings can be overwhelming if you're not prepared. Since it's jaque--is that right dunno it should be pretty packed. People do camp out, so be prepared to wait in a looooooooooonnnnng line.

Posted by: i <3 twins at May 13, 2005 03:40 PM

Dining options near the dome are a bit limited. There's Hubert's sports bar on the corner next to the dome. Spaghetti Factory and the Thai place a couple blocks away. A couple more bars on Washington. Grandma's and Chipoltle, and a sub place are across I-94 on the Seven Corners (maybe a 15 minute walk).

My bobblehead experience is that maybe 1/3 of those who get the dolls leave the dome, not to return. So while the lines are long, the seating situation isn't so bad. Also, the best bet for walk-up (no camping out or arriving before sunrise for a noon game) bobbles is to go for the upper deck general admission seats (now known as "the cheap seats"). Get there maybe 2 hours before gametime and you will probably be the owner of a little agreeable JJ.

My personal feeling is that the Twins should do like the Wolves and Saints. Give fans one of four color-coded tickets when they come through the gate. Somewhere around the 5th-7th inning, announce which color is the winner. When folks leave the dome, they redeem the winning color for a bobble. This guarantees that a family of four will get one (assuming even distribution of the tickets). It also allows for more concession sales and actually fills the stands. Although since the Twins make nothing off concessions at the Dome (one of many reasons they honestly do need a new stadium), I can see why they give them on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Posted by: double-a at May 13, 2005 03:41 PM

mike,

the fishing lures are a twins tradition. one year, there was a doug mientkiewicz lure. it caught everything in the vicinity.

Posted by: RonDavis at May 13, 2005 03:41 PM

kafumbly,

Gotcha. Keep an eye out for me, I'll keep an eye out for you, we'll find each other somehow! I've never been in the cheap seats before, this'll be interesting!

Posted by: infield at May 13, 2005 03:50 PM

Limited? There's got to be 50 restaurants within a half mile of the dome.

Try clicking my name...

Posted by: Kurtis at May 13, 2005 03:54 PM

OK, try it again... it wasn't linking to the right page.

Posted by: Kurtis at May 13, 2005 03:58 PM

I'll try to stop by the Foul Pole place, maybe 214. We're in 222 tonight, go JOE!

Someone around me started singing the lollipop guild song from Wizard of Oz. I immediately thought of LNP...hmm...

Posted by: She-Ra, P.O.P. at May 13, 2005 04:01 PM

My friend has decided not to get back to me about what she wants to do tonight, so I'll be heading for the game.

Section 214, right?

Posted by: E at May 13, 2005 04:03 PM

Camping for bobblehead has become a tradition, one in which I'm glad I got sucked into. We usually get there around midnight with snacks, adult beverages, chairs and blankets. It's a truly bonding experience. It's sad that most do not stay for the game and how many have stood in line forever to simply turn around and sell them across the street.

We "upgrade" for bobblehead days, but I'll see you guys in 214 tonight and tomorrow night though.

Posted by: HooliganKat at May 13, 2005 04:10 PM

I have to agree with the cheap seats for the bobblehead games. My roommates and I have gone to previous b-head games, and have only had to wait a few hours to get one.

Actually there was one time, I think Cory Koskie B-head, where I wiped off the stamp, and went out and got a another 3 bobblehead. It was just a matter of buying another ticket and racing back up to the entrance. My grandma was very happy that I got her a bobblehead that day... so was my fiancee's aunt, and my other roommate that couldn't go to the game. =D

Posted by: Thart at May 13, 2005 04:10 PM

Well, since there is absolutely NOTHING happening here (and all my bosses are out of town) I'm heading out. I have to hop on the bus, go get my car, drive back downtown and hop the rail to the dome. Everything goes well I'll be at the Foul Pole shortly after 5.

Sees ya then!!!

Posted by: heraldguy at May 13, 2005 04:12 PM

infield, it's not really that bad, especially in 214. I think a lot of the people who sit in that section have season tickets; I always see the same people in the same seats. so it's pretty tame. no stupid beach balls or crap like that.

HooliganKat, will you join us at the bottom of the section, or are you going to stay up in row 14?

Posted by: kafumbly at May 13, 2005 04:14 PM

And I'm a bit slow...

Batgirl mentioned "Boo Rally" at the top of this thread.

Wasn't that the guy defended by Atticus Finch in "To Kill A Mockingbird"?

Posted by: heraldguy at May 13, 2005 04:15 PM

I will join you in the bottom of the section.

Posted by: HooliganKat at May 13, 2005 04:18 PM

I wish I could go! (Stupid living-in-another-statedness!)

HooliganKat: Grumpy's sounds yummy, but almost lethal. And a drink that tastes like steak? I'm not sure what to think about that.

Get well, Batgirl. We need you.

Posted by: hrunting at May 13, 2005 04:19 PM

hrunting-
It sucks, doesn't it? I'm hoping to make it to the Dome for at least one more game this year, maybe Labor Day weekend or something. It all depends on my employment situation then (my position may or may not be eliminated June 30). Or maybe I'll win some tickets on the radio again...

Posted by: ndtf at May 13, 2005 04:23 PM

I can't make it to the game, tonight, but I'll be back in Minnesota as of Monday. I just wanted to jump in to say that this quote

"Batgirl mentioned "Boo Rally" at the top of this thread. Wasn't that the guy defended by Atticus Finch in "To Kill A Mockingbird"?"

was one of the funniest literary/sports puns I've ever read.

Posted by: Ryan at May 13, 2005 04:25 PM

The first time I had a "Sardini" I thought it was going to be sweet, imagine my shock when it turned out quite different. It was actually pretty good.

Posted by: HooliganKat at May 13, 2005 04:28 PM

Well, not to be a stickler or anything, but Boo was the recluse neighbor, not the defendant.

Posted by: Word Smith at May 13, 2005 04:51 PM

Are they really giving away a lure at a baseball game ? I have never heard of that before. I wonder if the Yanks would ever do a Yogi or Scooter crankbait.

No. They wouldn't. Not because Yankee fans don't fish, but because can you imagine the horror unleased by the Bleacher Creatures if they'd been given something with sharp hooks on the end? The opposing right fielder would end up looking like my Pedro Voodoo Doll.

Posted by: YankFan at May 13, 2005 04:56 PM

I have the Jacque Jones fishing lure. It hangs on my bulletin board in my office at work. Underneth my signed Gardy glossy photo and other Twins items.

Posted by: James at May 13, 2005 04:59 PM

"Well, not to be a stickler or anything, but Boo was the recluse neighbor, not the defendant."

Please do be a stickler!

And played by Robert Duvall in the movie, for all you young'uns out there.

Posted by: QJW at May 13, 2005 05:14 PM

Stacy-
I am going to see the chairman tomorrow, I'm gonna have him sign my batgirl Joe Mauer is my boyfriend t-shirt :)

Posted by: Molly at May 13, 2005 05:17 PM

No. They wouldn't. Not because Yankee fans don't fish, but because can you imagine the horror unleased by the Bleacher Creatures if they'd been given something with sharp hooks on the end? The opposing right fielder would end up looking like my Pedro Voodoo Doll.

The first thought I had was that they would have to have plastic treble hooks, and I wouldn't be so worried about the right fielder as I would Giambi.

Posted by: mike at May 13, 2005 05:28 PM

phlegm is a good thing, it keeps you busy. Go to the game. Bring a drool cup; a large one. Helpfully, Al

Posted by: al at May 13, 2005 05:51 PM

I'll be in 117 on Sunday probably wearing something Morneau.

I'll be in Apple Valley wearing something Mauer on Saturday.

P.S.- Thanks, Jeb:)

Mea culpa on the "Boo Radley" misinformation

I read it in Junior High, and that was 30 years ago.
