Your Boyfriend of the Day.
Jeb/Lewwww 5, Field/ Readers 5, Goober/Dr. Morneau 3, Sooz/ Stewie 2, Batgirl/Joe 2.
MAUER POWER!!! Him and Morneau went off today, which will really help my fantasy team. Capt Cheeseburger's suckage yesterday, while cool in a real world sense, really hurt my fantasy team. I like this better--Mauer and Morneau helping both my real and fantasy teams.
Posted by: TBird41 at May 6, 2005 11:09 PMA VERY well deserved BOD to the kid. I think he breaks in to the top 10 in the AL Batting average tonight
Coming in late (stupid work)... and yay for Mauer. Good show.
However, I have to say...
93 pitches? Over 9 innings? *blinks*
I guess I shouldn't be surprised by anything El Presidente does. My new hope for the season is 25 wins. Because it would be neat.
And at the end of the night:
Twins - won.
O's - won.
Yanks - lost.
BitchSox - won.
ECBS - won.
Well, 3 of 5 ain't bad.
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 6, 2005 11:33 PMWow. Agreed Stacy, he's just so beautiful.
Posted by: Sam at May 7, 2005 12:03 AMTBird:
Not sure if this means anything, but I have the Chairman, the Doctor, Supernatural, Rad Brad, DJ Cuddles and Lewwww on my two fantasy teams. My lone Tribesman? Pronk (Travis Hafner).
I try to be objective in drafting my teams, and objectively speaking, the Twins kick ass.

Posted by: TribeScribe at May 7, 2005 12:17 AMI'm not around much for the Talk, but is the Chairman expected to be a power hitter, or just a solid contact hitter? Either way, I like it.
Posted by: Ryan at May 7, 2005 12:38 AMi went to the game. My Rays looked good in the first and bad in the rest.
Santana is a BEAST.
Posted by: tim in tampa at May 7, 2005 12:42 AMYeah, I usually have Torii, but I waited a round too late for him. I stay away from El Presidente for a simple, yet important reason: I drafted him last year, he was mediocre and then, after I dropped him to pick up Pavano, he turned it around. I could have picked him up again (as the lone Twins fan, I was the only one who saw that he had figured it out) but I left him alone so as not to jinx him. I'll probably never have him on a fantasy team again, just in case.
Posted by: TBird41 at May 7, 2005 12:47 AMtim, I'm so very sorry... well, not really, but sorta. you guys got to have fun kicking the Yanks around, but for the next couple of games, you must bow before the Twinkies. then you can win again.
the Chairman definitely deserves this BOD nod. El Presidente could have taken it, but 4-of-5 for the Chairman... no contest. poor Johan is held to a higher standard now. he only fanned 7! what is that?!
and I got another update from Tumbleweed. she and Boo are having a blast in Florida. click my name for the next installment.
Posted by: kafumbly at May 7, 2005 01:18 AMDear Joe,
You've had that haircut since high school, and possibly since the first time you ever saw Dumb and Dumber. It's time to branch out!
Yours in masculinity,
Roscoe
Posted by: Roscoe at May 7, 2005 01:46 AMWhat's wrong with the red sox? the fans have stopped bitching for the most part now that they have won the world series. thats just uncalled for calling them the ECBS, esp since i'd like to see more riots in boston. Though of course the twins winning always comes first.
Congrats to the Chairman. He deserves BOD status after today. 4 for 5 with a 3 run homer is just ridiculous.
Posted by: TwinsInBoston at May 7, 2005 02:56 AMTwinsinBoston--
Though it's true they've spent the last six months gloating instead, that does not erase 86 straight years of the most dedicated moaning and bitching out of any fans in baseball.
If they make it 5 straight seasons without any bitching, I'll consider lifting the title of ECBS.
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 7, 2005 06:27 AMI'm agree with Carrie. There's a large ECBS contingent at my school and they are annoying. They're annoying in a different way now, but that doesn't mean they won't revert back to their old ways the next time the ECBS have problems.
Posted by: TBird41 at May 7, 2005 06:33 AMIn regards to Joe's haircut, do you think he trims his own sideburns? Most guys do, especially in-between haircuts, but Mauer's sideburns are always impeccably groomed. Maybe he doesn't need to shave daily yet -- he's only 22.
Posted by: spycake at May 7, 2005 07:20 AMTim in Tampa - Fear not, Lohse is pitching today, and even if the Twins jump out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, he'll find a way to keep the Rays in the game.
Posted by: Skorch at May 7, 2005 07:21 AMI get to watch only one game a week at home (the freebie on UPN). Tonight's game is on. Do I get to see Santana? Radke? Silva? Even Mays? No. Kyle!
And for the game that was broadcast last week, my Boyfriend, JJ, wasn't in the lineup.
Why doesn't UPN care about MEEEEEE? :whine:
I know I won't draw any love when I say I think Mauer looks better WITHOUT the sideburns.
Go Blue Jays (at least for the rest of the weekend)!
Memo to Lou Pinella:
ROLL THE BRIM ON YOUR FREAKING HAT! You look like a goober (no offense).
Also, with all due respect, have a salad every couple of days or so...
Posted by: McBob at May 7, 2005 08:29 AMHas anyone seen in the Pioneer press that they have started to refer to the Chairman and the Doctor as the M & M boys? I personally would take the bash brothers from Mighty duck fame...But i guess something corny would like that would work.
Posted by: Bojangles Crain at May 7, 2005 08:45 AMI didn't page though the game thread from last night, so forgive me if this is redundant, but did anybody notice the battle of the ex-Twins last night in the Blue Jays-Bitch Sox game? Koskie hit a home run to give the Jays an early edge, but A.J. trumped him at the end with the game-winning two-run hit. And in perfect A.J. fashion, it was a little blooper that dropped into left field.
Here's hoping tonight is the Revenge of Koskie. Come on, Corey, hit three or four home runs for your old squad.
Posted by: Andre at May 7, 2005 09:30 AMAndre - I did notice. I'm pretty sure AJ's hit was also on an 0-2 pitch; again, he's true to form.
QJW - I believe both today's and tomorrow's games are on UPN, so you're in luck!
Posted by: Nick at May 7, 2005 09:35 AMI was watching on MLB Extra Innings and can confirm AJ's eventual gamewinner was on an 0-2 pitch. Miquel Batista made him look bad on the first two pitches and then AJ just bloops one to left with his trademark tennis serve. This led to much "team of destiny" talk by the Bitch Sox crew. They have led in every game this season, even the ones they've lost. Bah.
I think the Twins are the real Team of Destiny. For proof--on 05/05/05 (aka Cupcake Day), they took control of the game by scoring five runs in the fifth inning.
And in that same game, where they reportedly linked arms in a college-basketball-esque show of team unity, the final was 9-0. What score says 'baseball TEAM' more than 9-0?
Posted by: Franorama at May 7, 2005 10:17 AMBojangles -
The A's touted McGwire and Canseco as the "Bash Brothers" back in 1988. Do we really want to associate Little Joe and Hoss with them?
Posted by: heraldguy at May 7, 2005 10:30 AMThanks, Nick! See, whining DOES pay! Must rearrange my Sunday now, and am very happy to do so.
heraldguy, historical memory is a beautiful thing.
Posted by: QJW at May 7, 2005 10:37 AMWhat is ECBS?
Posted by: Kurtis at May 7, 2005 11:12 AMNever mind, I figgered it out.
Posted by: Kurtis at May 7, 2005 11:28 AMDitto on what heraldguy says.
No way do I want the Chairman and the good Doctor associated with the juice brothers.
Let them be the M & M young guns.
And, with all due respect, the M&M boys will always be Mantle and Maris.
Is there no originality anymore? With such current movies as "The Amityville Horror" and "House of Wax" and upcoming releases as "Bewitched", "Dukes of Hazzard" and "The Longest Yard" I would guess not.
Posted by: heraldguy at May 7, 2005 12:02 PMI know team Batgirl's boyfriends get priority in the BOD running, and I'm okay with that. But I'd just like to take a moment to point out that, of his 93 pitches, Santana threw 76 strikes. Supernatural? How about superhuman?
Posted by: twink at May 7, 2005 12:12 PMWhy does the first letter of a name take precedence in the formation of a nickname? How about if Mauer and Morneau are the "Au Gratin Boys" because they both have "au" in their last names? (And perhaps they also like creamy potato bakes.) Now, there's a nickname that hasn't been used before. Or it could be the "Golden Boys" because AU is the chemical symbol for gold.
Posted by: Andre at May 7, 2005 12:28 PMWatching the Toronto-Chisox game today. It's the second inning and it's already over. The Twins won't be picking up a game today. 3 2R HRs in the first two innings. 2 SBs for Podsednik. Koskie Doubled in the first but couldn't score. Garland will have a 6-0 start unless he gets hurt before the 5th is over.
6-1 as I write this.
Posted by: amr at May 7, 2005 12:47 PM"Au" is sort of "of the" or "in the manner of," and in cooking, "with." Similar to "a la." Not to be confused with the French word for "with," which, in non-cooking usage, "avec."
"Gratin" is "grated."
Cafe au lait = coffee with milk. Roast beast au jus = with juice.
Love,
QJW
(Your Friendly Neighborhood Pedant)
P.S. What about a combo? "Joestin?"
Posted by: QJW at May 7, 2005 01:12 PMWhat's the record for stolen bases in one game?
Podsednik has four through four innings.
Chisox 10, Toronto 2
Koskie: RBI single
How bout Joe au Justin? Or Cretin au Canada?
And I'm going to be honest--I miss BG doing game recaps on weekends. I keep checking back on Fri and Sat (especially today / last weekend b/c it's Finals and thus my schedule is really weird-throws me off as to the day of the week). I understand avoiding blogger burn out, and I'm not complaining, but I'm just saying it was damn cool having BG update everyday last year.
Oh well, at least there's all the posters to help me procrastinate.
Posted by: TBird41 at May 7, 2005 02:08 PMOk... I have a riddle for all Batlings.
What sporting event happens once a year and lasts about three minutes?
Ryan - The Kentucky Derby?
Posted by: Nick at May 7, 2005 02:16 PMRyan,
Alls I know is, I'm still rooting against Steinbrenner.
- Kurtis
Posted by: Kurtis at May 7, 2005 02:17 PMA: A Matt Lecroy triple!
Posted by: Ryan at May 7, 2005 02:17 PMThat's pretty damned funny, Ryan.
Posted by: Kurtis at May 7, 2005 02:21 PMOh, I dearly hope Bellamy Road loses. Steinbrenner will blow, take it out on the Yanks, and not in a thoughtful, "Hey, what changes need to be made -- long and short-term -- to benefit this team and make them World Series contenders again?" way. No, he'll fire anyone who walks in front of his office, and they'll be worse off than before.
Although, I admit, after last night's tenth, even I felt some serious pity for the Yanks. I don't want them to win, mind you, but watching Posada weep into the dirt at third base was embarrassingly pathetic enough to make me feel bad. And I didn't want that to happen to Mariano. I've never had anything but respect for him.
They look like they're getting a good start out of Mussina today, though -- looks like a 3 hitter complete game (lot of those going around lately). Congrats, Moose has provided his one truly ace-quality start for the year. Enjoy it.
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 7, 2005 02:30 PMDear Mr. Bird,
I know, I know, and sometimes Batgirl misses it, too, but it wasn't possible.
Yours,
BG
>>(And perhaps they also like creamy potato bakes.)
Posted by: kafumbly at May 7, 2005 05:16 PMI didn't think of the steriod brothers names...I am sorry...we could always get the Chairman and Doctor going...Start having signs at games?
I agree with Joey and Justin being the B.O.D. and hopefully we'll see them featured many more times but BG, you must update your Joe pic. As fun as it is to joke about his youth, he's far too talented and attractive to have his 18yr old face posted each time he does something well! He's moved on from CDH and high school, you should too--new pic:)
