Seriously, BG, do you need to take up a collection to pay for some server upgrades? I feel bad that we're killing your host on a daily basis.
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 5, 2005 06:56 PMBrad was the obvious, unquestionable choice. Which is not to say that had the BODSHC chosen someone else, I would have argued about it. Oh no, I always agree with the BODSHC! But this time, she was particularly correct.
Posted by: Pepper at May 5, 2005 07:00 PMHuzzah to Bradke. And horray for run support. Lets just hope that they didnt give him all he's gonna get for a month when he pitched his best game of the year so far.
Posted by: TwinsInBoston at May 5, 2005 07:02 PMAmen...
The Twins get a win after three straight shameful losses!
9-0...The run producing hits show up in a blowout today rather than the consecutive clutch time letdowns throughout SUN, TUES
and WED.
Oh wel l... Let's just be happy for the W, and Brad Radke! Our beloved, reticent mound master tossed a complete game shutout against Cleveland's Cookie Monster-like craftmaster, CC Sabathia! Wow, what a performance ... 9IP, 8K, 0BB, just 3H (there's some WHIP for ya) ... Wait a go, Brad!
Other good signs:
*Torii 3-5, 2B, R
*LeCroy 2-4, HR, RBI, 2R
*Tiffee is back! 1-4, R
*Bartlett homers (#3)
*Twins put up 9 runs w/out Jones, Mauer or Morneau
-->Tomorrow, Dewon Brazelton against Santana ... C'mon now, we gotta pick up that W ... In fact, let's just sweep the Rays like were capable of.
Go Twins!

Posted by: Jeff Barthel at May 5, 2005 07:03 PMI can't believe the sox won, again. it kind of sucks that you guys dominate the tribe and we sneak past the royals but enough of the taunting.
I'm actually kind of happy the twins are doing well, as long as they don't pass the sox. I'm tired of all my cubbie friends telling me how the sox are in the worst division in baseball.
Remember the comment Dmitri Young made about how the division would be a battle between the Indians and Tigers. That just cracks me up now.
AL Central Pride
I have placed an order for a Bradke boyfriend t-shirt.
For I have come to a place in my life where I am no longer afraid of commitment. No more will I float from player to player, content in my Twins-slut state of being. No, it is time to settle down, to develop a relationship with a stable, reliable pitcher, for I am partial to pitchers.
Brad Radke is my boyfriend.
*content*
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 5, 2005 07:11 PMHe was the only possible choice.
I was at the game, which was deeply cool. What a pitching performance!
And, of course, I loved seeing CC's collapse and the Twins get some hits and Gardy go ballistic and the benches clear and . . . yup. Fun day at the ballpark.
Even if I didn't win at Twingo.
Yay! That's my boyfriend!
Way to go Brad! Way to go Twins!

Posted by: k-bro at May 5, 2005 07:12 PMmy friend was at the game, about ten rows up from the Twins dugout, and a line drive came right at him. he'd been keeping score and looked up to see the ball coming at him. he put his hand up, and the ball hit it, smashing his pen. Mike thought he mighta broken his hand, too, which would have been hard to explain to his boss, who was under the impression that Mike was sick today. ha!
way to go, Bradke! I only wish this game had been televised so more than 18,000 people could have seen your masterful performance!
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 07:13 PMDimitri's right though...
Sox will fade...sooner or later...
Garland, Crede, Rowand, Timo Perez, Podsednik
El Duque, Contreras ...
Freddy G and Buerhle are good, I'll give you that
But puhleeeaaze, the Chisox early season success
will not last much longer...
They WILL crumble in Toronto this weekend ...
-JRBinMN
Toronto is stunningly tough, mostly on the back of good pitching (Halladay) and scrappy hitting (Koskie). Their win record is deceptive. I would not be stunned to hear that they did the Sox some damage.
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 5, 2005 07:22 PMkafumbley: wow, close call for your friend!
Laurel: I didn't even come close at Twingo!
Everyone: Anybody ever won at Twingo?
BG: Let us know if you need donations. I, too, am willing.
Posted by: Pepper at May 5, 2005 07:24 PMHonestly...The Sox WILL NOT hold up...I admit, their start
is impressive, but the 4-5 game skid will start soon and
those one-run wins will eventually stop coming at a
6-outta every-7 game pace!
I do like that it makes our div. more competitive though :)
Det. will be tough ... And the Indians, yea they're 11-16, but
they've yet to start hitting (which I believe they will do b4
long).
I work Twingo all the time ... So, no, never won ...
But I think it's a GREAT GAME! And enjoy seeing
the excited fans rush up with their winning cards :)
Hey when the Indians start hitting. You think the sox have started hitting yet. Konerko and Dye are under .200. The best three hitters on our team right now are Iguchi, Everett and Crede. You think its gonna stay like that?
Posted by: SemiEvilSoxFan at May 5, 2005 07:39 PMTrue, the Sox haven't hit too well yet...They've just
been consistently winning those 3-2, 4-3 games, which
is commendable...
But the pitching will NOT hold up.
That was, actually, the best game of Brad's career: his first 3 hitter. I believe Bartlett has 2 h.r.s, me.Al
Posted by: al at May 5, 2005 07:43 PMI don't expect the sox to keep up this .750 winning percentage. But over 100 wins isn't out of the question. I think the twins will win the wild card. The AL Central gets no respect, and a media bias against its teams. So far this season, it looks like that is about to change.
If it comes down to the wild card, it seems a wild card team has won the series the past few years.
Posted by: JHK at May 5, 2005 08:12 PMWell, with the way the AL East is looking a White Sox or Twins wildcard isn't out of the question...
I just had an inspiration for a new T-shirt for the Batshop. Check it out: http://img252.echo.cx/my.php?image=shirt5df.png
Posted by: Belle at May 5, 2005 08:22 PMYanks lost again ... they are 11-18!
Who's more likely to make the playoffs, New York
or Chicago??
I'd say the Bitch Sox. They've got a good shot at the wildcard, if they avoid imploding too badly this summer.
I'm seeing a clear analogue to the Yankees as they've played so far this year: the Wolves. I just hope it stays that way.
Posted by: Nick at May 5, 2005 09:24 PMEven though I would never question the BODSHC's choice, today it never occurred to me it could be anyone else, prefernece to Team Batgirl boyfriends notwithstanding. That was an absolute masterpiece pitched by BradKe this afternoon. Alas, I'm going out of town next week, so I couldn't sneak out of work to attend the game. Oh well, next time I see BradKe pitch, he'll have to do it again.
Posted by: Just Beth at May 5, 2005 09:41 PMExcuse me if I get a little choked up. There's no baseball player I like to see succeed more than I like to see Brad Radke succeed. He just seems like a swell guy, and he's been the Twins ace for so long, and he doesn't have the best stuff but he has character and a work ethic and hell, he just deserves to do well and we're all better people when he does well.

Posted by: TwinsFan4Life at May 5, 2005 11:28 PMLots of talk about how the Bitch Sox are going to inevitably fold, and AL Central teams winning the wildcard....
I will, of course, hope for a Bitch Sox collapse, but I'm not ready to say that it is guaranteed. They have a couple of very good starting pitchers (Buerhle, Garcia) and if just one of the salsa band that makes up the rest of the staff (John Garland and the Cubans) stays hot, they have a pretty good chance at sustaining a winning record. Their bullpen doesnt seem rock solid, but I think an outright collapse (a la 2003, 2004, etc.) would be surprising.
As for an AL Central team winning the wildcard, I would say that is less likely this year with the Orioles, Blue Jays, and Rangers playing well, the non-divisional wins are going to be more difficult to come by. We can't keep playing the Royals all year, we have to share them with the rest of the league. Not that those three teams will end up in the playoffs, but they will make the playoff teams earn their place. I would be surprised if the American League field didn't have the same 4 teams as last year.
But of course I wouldn't mind seeing the Orioles in place of the Yankees.
Alright, I'm taking my soapbox and going home now.
Posted by: Serial Thrilla at May 6, 2005 01:33 AMI have a feeling that BG my be paying a visit to Joe soon asking him to pick up his pace in the BOD standings, or BG might cut him for Tiffe.
Posted by: mike at May 6, 2005 02:45 PM>>Poor YankeeFan
You know, I was thinking the same thing. And, actually, I feel kind of bad for the Yankees. Well, for the ones I like, A-Rod, Jeter, Giambi and ... ok, I think that's it.
I just can't take any pleasure in the Yankees' misfortunes. Maybe I'm TOO worried about karma. As for the ChiSox, I think I'm going to just quietly see how it plays out. Again, the karma thing. Besides, I'd hate to have all the Sox fans searching the archives to make up a nice tasty humble pie for me to eat if they continue their winning ways.
You know what? San Antonio would be a great place to have an outdoor MLB team. It's sunny and hot here. Maybe if the stadium deal doesn't go through, the Twins would move here.
Posted by: mmmarkiep at May 6, 2005 02:48 PMSure we are struggling a little bit so far this season, but I still know they are capable of playing better. The Yankees will be okay and even if we continue to struggle this season, we still have 26 WS banners and 39 AL Pennets to wipe our tears with.
Posted by: mike at May 6, 2005 02:50 PMmmmarkiep: are you saying that you moved to San Antonio? I was under the impression that you lived around here (Mpls). Wow, that must be kind of sad for you to have moved so far from your team. The San Antonio Twins...the idea just breaks my heart! But anything is possible if they don't figure this stadium business out. Anyhow, best of luck to you.
Posted by: Pepper at May 6, 2005 03:23 PMHeh, no Pepper. Just visiting. Born and raised here, though. Mama says come home, a guy's just gotta go. Mama said.
It IS tough, though, not to be able to turn on the TV or the radio and watch the Twins. I've been staying up late after family ... festivities (big tequila drinkers my mom's family is) hoping to catch Twins highlights.
