Captain Cheeseburger will be shutting you all down tonight. Prediction: Tribe 4, Twins 1.
Posted by: tribe fan at May 5, 2005 11:16 AMThe Captain of Cheeseburgers can do whatever he wants to tonight, except eat LNP. I'm really more interested in whether the Twins can hit him this afternoon. Alas, I'll have to miss even watching on Gameday, as I have a final.
Posted by: Nick at May 5, 2005 11:19 AMTime to tune the radio and set it in the magical AM spot...
Posted by: ndtf at May 5, 2005 11:20 AMwe'll see, rivas is back in the lineup so i think he is finally tired of the looks gardy has been giving LNP and is going put it all on the line to win back the heart of his manager...just to add some romanticism to the LNP-gardy-rivas relationship.
my hope is that the 1st 9 at bats are all bunts to King Hippo to take his lungs out of the game. Once he gets winded you sock him in the belly and he goes down!
Posted by: twinsfanCA at May 5, 2005 11:21 AMI hope it's a 2-0 Twins victory, w/ Mauer and Morneau both hitting bombs in the 8th, Capt Cheeseburger going 7 innings w/o giving up a run and Radke going 8, with Nathan getting the save.
That would be the best possible outcome for me fantasy wise (I have all those players) and Twins fan wise. Of course, I probably just jinxed them all and it's going to be a 9-7 Twins loss, w/ all of them having horrible games. I hope it doesn't come to that.
Posted by: TBird41 at May 5, 2005 11:32 AMthe last thing Captain Cheeseburger shut down was the Old Country Buffet
Posted by: twinsfanCA at May 5, 2005 11:34 AMWell, i'm staying up late to watch the game and will only have 4 hours of sleep come tomorrow, so there'd BETTER be a damned twins win in the end. Or else im just gonna be that much crabbier tomorrow...
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 11:43 AM"the last thing Captain Cheeseburger shut down was the Old Country Buffet"
Too funny
Posted by: Ryan at May 5, 2005 11:46 AMI like mine with lettuce and tomato,
Heinz 57 and French-fried potatoes.
Big kosher pickle and a cold draft beer,
well Good God almighty which way do I steer?
Personally, I would rather be associated with the lyrics to 'Cheeseburger in Paradise' than, say, 'I Want a New Drug?'
/end of sarcastic commenting.
Posted by: Mark at May 5, 2005 11:49 AMWell, it looks like Gardy has finally lost his mind.
Or at least he has decided it isn't even worth trying to beat CC.
Mauer, Morneau, Jones and LNP are all on the bench today.
Jones I understand, he can't hit CC. And maybe they're afraid that LNP will get eaten if he leaves the dugout. And day game after night game, Mauer must be tired.
I understand he wants Tiffee in today. But why not take out Cuddiharrea instead of the Dr? Morneau is hitting something like .850 right now!
Hopefully Tiffee can do it by himself today. But I can only imagine how Radke must feel. He never gets any damn run support anyway, and today we bench all the regulars!
Who wants to lay odds on how many hits the trifecta of Cuddyer, Redmond and Rivas will get at the end of the order?
Sigh. I'll try to be positive now.
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 5, 2005 11:50 AMSadly, no Mauer or Morneau in da lineup. Tippie is back. (so is captain fat though...)
Posted by: Seany Darko at May 5, 2005 11:50 AMI get to watch my first Twins game today on MLBTV! And what a doozy: Bradke versus CC!
I'm thinking a 15-inning 1-0 game...
Posted by: kojak at May 5, 2005 11:51 AMcuddyers actually been hitting lately, so playing him isnt that bad of an idea
Posted by: twinsfanCA at May 5, 2005 11:55 AMNYB I bet 6. Not kidding. That seems like the weird sort of thing that would happen. cuddy goes 0-5 since I'm playing him today in my fantasy league, Redmond gets 4 hits, seeing as he is the only one who hits with the bases loaded and Luivas gets a pair of his patented oh my goodness, I cant believe that didnt even reach third base hits.
Posted by: Ryan at May 5, 2005 11:57 AM...must...make....coffee....
Posted by: kojak at May 5, 2005 11:57 AMCuddy is up to .250 now... wow.
Posted by: Ryan at May 5, 2005 11:58 AMNY-Brian, Cuddly's been hitting really well the last couple of games.
I'd like to see LNP and Mauer in the lineup, but I can live without them for one game.
however, I really, really question sitting the Doctor.
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 11:59 AMKafumbly-
Then he would have to sit LeCory and have one of the three DH...
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 5, 2005 12:01 PMLeRoy is DH... guess Skip wants to show him some confidence.
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 12:01 PMNever question the creepy genius of Ron Gardenhire.
Of course, I felt in my bones last night that we would get a big game from our boys, so what do I know.
also CC is the guy that busted justins wrist last year and zapped some of his power. so gardy may be protecting him a bit from a tough lefty who isnt afraid to pitch inside.
Posted by: twinsfanCA at May 5, 2005 12:02 PMI had figured Gardy would put Tiffee in the lineup today, since he usually likes to get the new callups in right away. I just thought he'd let Cuddy have a day off. I could see Morneau coming in to pinch hit though.
Posted by: ndtf at May 5, 2005 12:02 PMTwinsfanCA - Are you saying that tomorrow's pitching matchup will be Great Tiger vs Santana? He'll need to remember to keep his guard up when he goes into his tiger punch.
Yours in pugilistic strategy,
Skorch
Posted by: Skorch at May 5, 2005 12:03 PMTFCA - good point. Hadnt thought of that.
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 5, 2005 12:04 PMI'm fairly sad now, because my company's new network settings prohibit my MLB.tv from working, so I guess I'll be watching the ESPN stat-tracker and praying for no bases-loaded-with-one-out situations.
I'm calling it right now. Crawfish LeCroy will be the game-winner.
Posted by: Megawatt at May 5, 2005 12:07 PMexactly skorch, but if we loose today we will be back down to don flamenco
Posted by: twinsfanCA at May 5, 2005 12:07 PMMega - have you tried gameday?
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 5, 2005 12:07 PMGood start Bradke!
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 5, 2005 12:13 PMI have to say, not having JustinIncredible in the line-up eases my pain of the first homegame I can't attend. My record now is 14-1.
I think Tiffee is going to do very well today. It was so exciting to see him come into the clubhouse during the 6th inning last night. Handshakes and back slaps all around.
Posted by: HooliganKat at May 5, 2005 12:14 PMHA! Fruity Marshmallow Krispies, YOU GO SIT DOWN!
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 12:14 PMHuh. Radke just got through *another* scoreless first.
I hate to suggest it, but given the time-space continuum problems the team has been having, is it possible that Bradke and El Presidente have switched bodies?
Something to consider, especially if Bradke gets run support (again) today, and El Presidente doesn't get run support (again) tomorrow.
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 5, 2005 12:17 PMHoly cow- Radke has a 1-2-3 first inning! How often does that happen? I say it's a good omen.
I still wish we had Dr. Morneau and the Chairman playing today, though.
Posted by: Belle at May 5, 2005 12:17 PMtwinsfanCA and Skorch: So would Joe Mauer be the Little Mac of our team? I could just see him riding bike through the city to rehab the knee, Al Newman jogging behind him in his pink sweatsuit...
Posted by: Roscoe at May 5, 2005 12:20 PMlewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 5, 2005 12:23 PMoh, I'm late, sorry...
LEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
(I hate having to work when there's a game on)
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 12:23 PMI like our lineup today. All righties against Cheeseburgers cheese. Good day to give the Dr. a day off. 0.92 era and plenty of heat. Don't want him to give Villoned again.
Posted by: Brundlefly at May 5, 2005 12:27 PMI have to go to lunch now. (Now or never, they said.)
See you in 30!
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 5, 2005 12:28 PMhmmm i would say lew or LNP would be my choices for "little Mac"
Posted by: twinsfanCA at May 5, 2005 12:32 PMI move to turn our.... encouragement.... to Torii. He's only batting .229! Cuddy is up to .250! Of course, he doesnt have a Tiffee breathing down his neck either.
Posted by: Ryan at May 5, 2005 12:32 PMBradke is brilliant today!
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 12:33 PMBradke's on fire.
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 5, 2005 12:34 PMTorii could have a Darth Lew breathing down his neck...
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 12:34 PMso are we off to a good start tonight? doesn't look bad, no HR in the first inning...
come on cuddy, stay hot here and get stuff goin!
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 12:37 PMHmmm looks like alot of infield ground balls... that doesn't do much to get me too excited
injury delay? where the heck did CC hit him with that pitch?
Gameday sucks.
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 12:39 PMUntil our Dungeons and Dragons playing friend can cover the entire outfield and plays a venus fly trap in a commercial, Torii has center field all to himself.
Posted by: Ryan at May 5, 2005 12:39 PMgot him in the elbow. totally unintentional, although i wouldnt mind seeing these teams duke it out finally.
Posted by: tribe fan at May 5, 2005 12:40 PMKafumbly-
It was in the elbow. Sounded painful.
we'll take the HBP
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 12:40 PMHoly shit! Rivas got a hit!
Posted by: ndtf at May 5, 2005 12:41 PMI'd like to see Luis have a good game today, just to make Gardy give him a good look... and because it would help us win. thats whats important today.
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 12:41 PMRivas got a hit! I am wide-eyed with astonishment!
good for you, Buckaroo!
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 12:42 PMDear Tumbleweed,
We are also huge LNP fans.
We were thinking, though, that if you were to join us we could become the Kitty Soul Patrol.
You can even be Torii...
Posted by: Magic&Michael at May 5, 2005 12:42 PMthey should stop the game and let rivas pull 1st base up and hold it over his head
Posted by: twinsfanCA at May 5, 2005 12:42 PM*goggling* Rivas... just... got... a... hit?!
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 12:42 PMATTABOY RIVAS!
way to be my girlfriend's boyfriend!
Oh, good. The bases are loaded. Nothing can possibly go wrong now...
Posted by: Skorch at May 5, 2005 12:43 PMLooks like captian cheeseburger has his mind on the OCB again.. he's all over the place in there!
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 12:43 PMOh, shoot, we've loaded the bases again...
I mean... oh, heck. Y'all know what I mean.
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 12:43 PMHEYO!!!
i dont know whether to be excited right now or not...
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 12:44 PMCan't say I'm real surprised right now.
*shakes head in disgust*

That's my boyfriend, way to get out with the bases loaded Jason! Heaven Forbid we get a run when the bases are loaded!
Posted by: Jill at May 5, 2005 12:46 PMUgh...
Can we send out someone to please, *please* talk to the old man about his goat and assure him that yes, it's okay to lift the curse now?
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 5, 2005 12:46 PMOkay, this is just nuts. Where the hell is that voodoo priestess?
Posted by: Attyfan at May 5, 2005 12:46 PMThe Twins just have ED. Entirely impotent, especially when it really matters. Werem't we planning an exorcism?
Posted by: Ryan at May 5, 2005 12:46 PMI'm sure our Twins will set the record for number of times they loaded the bases in an inning without scoring. I can't take it anymore. I can't! Somebody needs to go mental on a chair, and soon.
Posted by: Kurtis at May 5, 2005 12:46 PMat least we got Bradke on the mound to shut them down
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 12:48 PMMagic&Michael, totally! let's go whoop some Cleveland ass!
and if Captain Cheeseburger isn't careful, I may just be forced to devour him the way I slurped up Bartolo Colon. I'm not liking these bottoms of innings one little bit.
but I have to go get ready for my flight now. I'm going to accompany Boo to Florida after the game.
Posted by: Tumbleweed at May 5, 2005 12:48 PM*reaches for the holy water*
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 5, 2005 12:48 PMPedro Cerrano: Bats, they are sick. I cannot hit [w/ bases loaded]. [Bases Empty] I hit [ball] very much. [Bases Loaded], bats are afraid. I ask Jobu to come, take fear from bats. I offer him cigar, rum. He will come.
Eddie Harris: You know you might think about taking Jesus Christ as your savior instead of fooling around with all this stuff.
Pedro Cerrano: Jesus, I like him very much, but he no help with [bases loaded].
Eddie Harris: You trying to say Jesus Christ can't hit [with the bases loaded]?

Posted by: ndtf at May 5, 2005 12:49 PMIf any one is/was Dougy's boy/girl friend. He's having a good game today. I can't watch the twins game on mlb.tv due to black out restrictions but I can get the mets game!
Posted by: Jill at May 5, 2005 12:49 PMWhere is Dennis Haysbert when you need him?
Posted by: Ryan at May 5, 2005 12:49 PMmaybe it's time for some naked batting practice...?
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 12:50 PMGeez. What was that, three pitches for Bradke?
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 5, 2005 12:51 PMI like innings like that... well, top halfs like that, anyway...
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 12:51 PMSeriously, I am not kidding. I think Bradke and El Presidente have switched bodies.
I suppose it doesn't matter that much in the grander scheme of things, but somehow, it makes me nervous.
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 5, 2005 12:53 PMNo, seriously, Lew, you could take a pitch or two first....
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 12:54 PMDamn, the one game i take dougy out because he's been slumping, and he busts out.. i bet Sexton goes o-fer today... just my luck...
anyway, COME ON TORII!!!! get us started, and then make sure someone finishes this time!
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 12:54 PMGood job, Sweetcheeks!
Posted by: ndtf at May 5, 2005 12:55 PMTorii! a double! bless you, honey! (maybe you coulda done that last time...)
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 12:55 PMDear Torii,
That was a good start. Thank you for listening.
-Tinger
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 12:55 PMMAN, Torii! Way to go!
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 12:55 PMCome on Cuddy!
Posted by: ndtf at May 5, 2005 12:56 PMDoes anyone else feel very weird hearing someone say "the Red Hot Milwaukee Brewers"? Anyone?
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 12:57 PMI want a high chopper over Peralta's head for Cuddy.
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 12:57 PMwas that some sort of unorthodox intentional walk there by the Cheese? holy crap the dude's control is non-existant tongiht! i like it...but i fear for our players safety... good thing Dr. isn't playing...
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 12:57 PMIf Sabathia had a sense of humor he'd issue Cuddy an intentional walk.
Posted by: sloveniatom at May 5, 2005 12:58 PMCOCO! just escaped danger right there!
Posted by: tribe fan at May 5, 2005 12:58 PM(not to troll or anything... but Little Mac was the runner behind the trainer on the bicycle. So it'd be Al Newman riding and Joe Mauer hustlin' and bustlin'...)
(okay, return to game thread)
Posted by: CMoney at May 5, 2005 12:58 PMOh, Cuddy.
Well, he's still doing better than he has been.
And at least the bases weren't loaded.
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 5, 2005 12:59 PMcrap, there we go again... strand a few more... cripes!
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 12:59 PMI HATE YOU, MR. CRISP!
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 12:59 PMgameday made it look close to being a homer... how close was that? I could cry.
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 12:59 PM*sigh* I guess it wouldn't be a typical inning without a runner left in scoring position.
Posted by: Ryan at May 5, 2005 12:59 PMBradke should hit Coco, just because of that last play he made. Not that i saw, it on sportsline, but still... he pissed me off cuz we dind't score. he should pay.
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:03 PMHA! siddown, bitch.
I like the way Bradke keeps sittin' down the bitches.
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 01:03 PMI know Hafner's from ND and it's really cool that he's doing well with Cleveland and all, but damn I hate that guy!
Posted by: ndtf at May 5, 2005 01:04 PMOh, damnit, no! Bad Hafner!
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 01:04 PMI read today that the twins have the highest Batting Average with RISP. Can someone explain to me how thats possible? are the other teams really THAT bad?
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:04 PMoh... an error by Torii... AGAIN?! no gold glove for you this year, dude. sheesh.
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 01:04 PMDammit, and I was really enjoying Bradke's perfect game.
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 5, 2005 01:04 PMCuddy... if I even THOUGHT bad things about you... I take them all back.
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 01:05 PMcan someone explain what happened on torii error?
Posted by: twinsfanCA at May 5, 2005 01:05 PMYeah, Carrie, I'd just noticed it, myself. Then Hafner came up. I've just got to learn not to think about those things.
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 01:06 PMTorii... Error.... i don't get it.
got out of that jam, way to go Bradke! blew the no-hitter, but thats not really important, just keep the other column at zero!
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:06 PMGameday says Torii made an error on a 408 foot single. Uh, what happened?
Posted by: sloveniatom at May 5, 2005 01:07 PMYeah, yay for Hafner being successful and all, but i'd rather see him being successful for, oh, say, the cubs or something... because he seems to kick our ass alot and i'm not down with that.
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:07 PMThe thing is, Captain Cheeseburger really doesn't have his best stuff today. It's beginning to boggle my mind that we're not taking advantage of it.
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 5, 2005 01:07 PMTorii misread the ball, apparently. Thought it was going to sail longer, but it curved and came down in front of him. Is that right, guys?
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 01:07 PMTinger, are you a NoDak too? If so where from?
Posted by: ndtf at May 5, 2005 01:08 PMThat's what I got out of it Katharriet.
Posted by: ndtf at May 5, 2005 01:09 PMokay, this is getting ridiculous.
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 01:09 PMNo RISP that inning. I dont know how to react.
Posted by: Ryan at May 5, 2005 01:09 PMwell crap, redmond sure wanted to get back to the bench in a hurry... i wonder what the conversation is about in there today?
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:10 PMY'know, pitcher's duels are nice and all, in moderation. However, this is my sixth pitcher's duel of the week, and it's beginning to give me angina.
So, boys, how about you score some runs for me, and I won't be aged before my time?
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 5, 2005 01:10 PMwell holy ass-bats! that was a fast damn inning! i dont like those kinds of innings.
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:11 PMTorii froze. Line drive right at him. Started coming in to late - deer in the headlights. Must have had a bad read.
Posted by: hegs at May 5, 2005 01:12 PMNo, not a North Dakota boy here... but i did stay at a holiday inn express last night?
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:13 PMI'm back! What'd I miss?
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 5, 2005 01:13 PMNY-Brian:
Sadly, little, or at least, little of consequence.
lol Tinger-
Unfortunately for me, I am an ND farm gal, grew up in the shadow of the world's largest holstein cow. It's my dream in life to see the ugly thing topple.
You missed Cuddy almost hitting it out and getting robbed by Crisp.
Posted by: insider at May 5, 2005 01:15 PMthis Sizemore kid is ticking me off.
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 01:16 PMIt amuses me that GameDay tells me it was a blocked ball in the dirt. There isn't anyone on base. It really doesn't matter if NBP let it roll to the back stop.
I rant. My apologies.
Posted by: Ryan at May 5, 2005 01:16 PMWhoo hooo, Radke can get Sizemore out..Silva stuggles with him..what was he..like 8 for 10 off Silva? Amazing!
Posted by: Mic at May 5, 2005 01:17 PMHoly crap, sizemore sure did alot of work there just to have to go and SIT DOWN BITCH!

I think I drove by the holsetin cow of which you speak, er type, on my way home to SD a few days ago. Can see it from I-94 right?
Homerun for Bartlett!!! Whoo. Again, our boys need to start hitting some of those when there are guys on base, but a homerun is a homerun.

I couldn't agree with you more. Bartlett is a cutie!!!!!

way to go matty! Krispy Kremes for everyone!
Now lets see Torii bring him in! (that'll take a shot...)
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:22 PMWe might have a record for homers hit in the at-bat either before or after an at-bat where the same hitter leaves the bases loaded. Is anyone measuring that?
Posted by: Kurtis at May 5, 2005 01:22 PMMaybe, we can win by not having runners in scoring position;)
katharriet, get back to work;)
Posted by: Hughster at May 5, 2005 01:23 PMPollyannah-

THAT'S WHAT YOU DO! way to go Torii!
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:25 PMOh, right, Hugh, when it's convention-related stuff, it's okay if I work on it at work, but when it's Twins-related...! ;)
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 01:25 PMYESYESYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Mic at May 5, 2005 01:26 PMOh, no. Bases loaded. :(
Posted by: Adam at May 5, 2005 01:26 PMOh crap, i'm glad Tiffee got a hit... but now what?
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:26 PMcome on Cuddy... *holds breath*
Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 5, 2005 01:27 PMIs it too much to just hope for a walk?
Posted by: Adam at May 5, 2005 01:27 PMoh... oh... oh... c'mon, Cuddy...
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 01:27 PMNO, if Captain Cheeseburger had a sense of humor, he'd intentionally walk Cuddy NOW!
looks like he's trying!
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:27 PMBASES LOADED WALK!!!! WOOHOO!
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 5, 2005 01:27 PMhahahahahahahahahaha! You suck Captain Cheeseburger!
Posted by: ndtf at May 5, 2005 01:27 PMCaptain Cheesburger must be hungry..trying to get taken out of the game...good eye Cuddy!
Posted by: Mic at May 5, 2005 01:27 PM
Well, that's a START anyway.
Of course, Kath, I'm working hard too.
Posted by: Hughster at May 5, 2005 01:28 PMThank god. It doesn't improve the bases-loaded batting average any, but doesn't hurt it either!
Posted by: Adam at May 5, 2005 01:28 PMwow still not a hit with RISP, but i will take it
Posted by: twinsfanCA at May 5, 2005 01:28 PMWell, that isn't what I'd normally think of as capitalizing on bases loaded, but hell, it wasn't a fly out or a ground out or a strike out, so I'll sure as hell take it.
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 5, 2005 01:28 PMI'm "working" too. (Im a temp...)
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 5, 2005 01:28 PMthe Cheese isn't going to make it out of this inning. He's got no control and a fairly high pitch count.. one more good hit here, score a couple of runs, and he's gone.
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:28 PMi thinkt that is the only way there ISNT a play at the plate with lecroy on 3rd
Posted by: twinsfanCA at May 5, 2005 01:29 PMNBP is my new hero!!!
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 01:29 PMRedmond, who'd have thought?
They should have sent Tiffee, though, so the bases would no longer be loaded.
Posted by: Adam at May 5, 2005 01:30 PMRedmond! Look a bases loaded hit! And no one was out on the play either. Can he teach his teammates how to accomplish such a feat?
hahahahaha, CC...This is awesome!
Posted by: Mic at May 5, 2005 01:30 PMAn open letter to Torii Hunter.
You and I are both aware that you are the motor to the vehicle that is Minnesota Twins baseball. You're the most famous Twin, perhaps even more so than El Presidente, and everyone assumes you are the best player on the team at every aspect of the game. We all know this isn't quite true.
The thing is though, you aren't getting benched. You're fielding skills bring the guys to the games, and your face and tight pants bring a remarkable number of ladies. A fly ball hit to center usually gets fielded with ease.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, we need more games where you bat like you have so far today. Stop sucking every other game.
Sincerely,
Ryan
YEAH! Yeah, Redmond!
Omg! That's twice we've scored in one inning with bases loaded! (Okay, so once ws courtesy of Cheeseburger Supreme).
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 01:30 PManother walk?? looks like he's trying again
Good Stuff. i like this inning alot better. THANK YOU REDMOND!
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:31 PMPLEASE walk, Luis.
Posted by: Adam at May 5, 2005 01:31 PMWow, walked in another run... I just can't suppress my goofy grin right now!
Posted by: ndtf at May 5, 2005 01:31 PMGracias, Luis.
Posted by: Adam at May 5, 2005 01:31 PMHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... oh, how I wish I were there to see this!!!
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 01:31 PMThink the point was made to start taking a few pitches when the bases are juiced?
Seems to work pretty well.
Posted by: Cattlefeeder at May 5, 2005 01:32 PMOK, I take back the bad things I said about the bottom third. (Geez...Rivas walked?)
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 5, 2005 01:32 PMWhee!!
We're scoring on bases loaded! We're scoring on bases loaded!!
*hangs out the window*
Hey guys! We're scoring on bases loaded!
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 5, 2005 01:32 PMThe wheels are coming off in Cleveland.
It was good that LeRoy walked home, isn't it though?
Geez... he's gotta be getting a stern ass-chewing after this game...
he'd only given up 2 earned runs coming into tonight...
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:32 PMGeez... Gameday audio's feed is behind again.
However: HaHAH, Cheeseburger!
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 01:32 PMGo eat cheesburgers!
Posted by: Mic at May 5, 2005 01:32 PMYay! CC can go eat now. (HIDE LNP!)
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 5, 2005 01:33 PMRemember this: the bottom third of our order now hold three RBIs in this game. And one actually came from a hit!
Posted by: Just Beth at May 5, 2005 01:33 PMOkay, so we've obviously figured out that the way to score with bases loaded if you can't hit... is to let the pitcher score the runs FOR us... NEAT trick....
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 01:34 PMUllgers harping on waiting for a good pitch to hit went to heart with the bottom three.
Posted by: insider at May 5, 2005 01:34 PMStewie, dammit! That was WAY too close to a DP.
Posted by: Adam at May 5, 2005 01:34 PMOk, so sportsline still shows rivas walking as the last thing that happened.. i'm guessing that the Captain got his ass pulled and is currently en-route to the Lions Tap.
Ahh, yup, there it is... welcome betancourt... I sincerely hope you suck!
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:34 PMso Stewie grounded into a force out, but we still scored another run! yahoo!
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 01:35 PMSTEWIE!
Not unspeakably gorgeous, but I can live with that.
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 5, 2005 01:35 PMAND we just avoided a double play-- AND scored!
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 01:35 PMBeth, and the two that didn't come from hits were probably bigger at bats than the hit. We didn't help him a bit.
Posted by: insider at May 5, 2005 01:35 PMNow we're realy dangerous, right? without the bases loaded, and RISP?
i hope so
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:36 PMwhat's the on-field delay?
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 01:36 PMJason Bartlett is my home-run hitting boyfriend.
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:36 PMWhats the delay?
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 5, 2005 01:37 PMwhats the hold up? (on field delay?)
I love how game day tries to keep us up to date completely... onfield delay! I don't want to be at work anymore!
Posted by: Jill at May 5, 2005 01:37 PMok.. for those of us stuck at work and limited to the completely not-helpful messages on Gameday - the the hell is the "on field delay"???
Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 5, 2005 01:37 PMcan someone get the man a cheeseburger..he threw a lot of pitches! hehe....LOVE IT!!!!!
Posted by: Mic at May 5, 2005 01:37 PMThey were doing some work on the mound.
Posted by: ndtf at May 5, 2005 01:37 PMC'mon, JB, I need a few RBI from Lew.
Posted by: Megawatt at May 5, 2005 01:38 PMIs bentancourt getting the "don't pitch like the Cheese" talk? whats the holdup?
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:38 PMOn field delay. What happened? Is Batgirl at the game? Did she run on the field to give the Captain a hug for sucking so bad?
Posted by: Ryan at May 5, 2005 01:38 PMI was kinda hoping "on-field delay" was secret-Gameday-code for "benches-clearing-brawl"... :)
Posted by: Salt-Man Z at May 5, 2005 01:38 PMNo; sounds like neither CC nor Betancourt liked the state of the mound-- throwing up lumps of clay or somethin'. So the grounds crew was working on it.
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 01:39 PMoh, was CC out there grazing on some of the field turf or something?
Posted by: twinsfanCA at May 5, 2005 01:39 PMactually everyone was confused to see the first batter again. The umps discussed, it is ok, JB can hit 2 homeruns in the same inning!
Posted by: Jill at May 5, 2005 01:39 PMTAKE J.B.! TAKE!!!
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:39 PMGood inning boys...go defense
Posted by: Mic at May 5, 2005 01:39 PMOh I see. The Indians are creating a big sucking sound so they blame it on the MOUND....
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 5, 2005 01:40 PMNice to see the Captain of Cheeseburgers melted down today.
And WE CAN SCORE WITH BASES LOADED TOO????
Why didn't I take the day off and go to THIS game today??
Posted by: bubblemint at May 5, 2005 01:40 PMMedium-long fly-out to center...wonder if we'll start seeing too many of those from Bartlett now that he just destroyed that pitch from Captain Cheeseburger...
Posted by: Bill at May 5, 2005 01:40 PMoh, Bart... starts it off with a solo homer and ends it with a fly out. but what a fantastic inning!
*sniff* boys, I'm proud of you. keep up the good work.
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 01:40 PM"Captain Cheeseburger will be shutting you all down tonight. Prediction: Tribe 4, Twins 1."
Anyone else remember Chief Wahoo saying that?
Posted by: Ryan at May 5, 2005 01:40 PMNice to see the Captain of Cheeseburgers melted down today.
And WE CAN SCORE WITH BASES LOADED TOO????
Why didn't I take the day off and go to THIS game today??
Posted by: bubblemint at May 5, 2005 01:40 PMGah!
Was it at least a deep fly to center?
Damn these day games! I want to watch!
Posted by: Megawatt at May 5, 2005 01:41 PMDidn't CC complain about the mound getting a hole in it the LAST time he pitched here??? Is there something he does to create this problem or just something that he claims when things fall apart for him?
Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 5, 2005 01:41 PMThat's okay. Bartlett's breaking through the seal at the beginning of the inning was good enough.
Although it would be cool to hit two home runs in the same inning.
But let's not get greedy.
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 5, 2005 01:41 PMThat had to be the worst take i've seen in a while, boyfriend. Good thing you hit that home-run earlier in the inning so i can't be mad.
oh who am i trying to kid? i can't stay mad at you anyway!
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:41 PMBradke's GameDay portrait shows a big smile. Small wonder -- he's got a 5-run lead!
Posted by: Salt-Man Z at May 5, 2005 01:42 PMGeez, Bradke, 5 Ks AND run support! Don't use up all your luck in one game....
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 01:43 PMJust now able to check the score. Crap, what happened?! Did that goat-curse thing actually end?!
Posted by: sacky at May 5, 2005 01:43 PMRadke eat a big bowl of "sit down bitches like you're Johan" today or what?
i love this sh*t!
insider-yep, those were good at-bats. Just earlier today someone sarcastically wondered how much production we'd get from that bottom third... I take walks. Walks by our team are good.
Posted by: Just Beth at May 5, 2005 01:45 PMSacky;
Indeed it did... with a little help from Cheeseburger himself.
That's what you get for grossly mispelling your name, Mr. Peralta!
Posted by: Ryan at May 5, 2005 01:45 PMgeez, Bradke's rackin' up the K's today! or would that be R's?
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 01:45 PMDamn Bradke, you superfine!
Posted by: Dr. Trivicon at May 5, 2005 01:46 PMRadke eat a big bowl of "sit down bitches like you're Johan" today or what>
I was wondering the same thing! B-B-B
Posted by: Mic at May 5, 2005 01:46 PMI like this.
Posted by: Stacy at May 5, 2005 01:47 PMOh damn, why couldn't he have sat all three bitches down swinging?! oh well... still 1,2,3!
lets do that hitting thing again
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:47 PMPoor CC ... I imagine anyone who weighs 300 pounds and thrusts his weight onto one leg 90 times will create quite a divot ... on dirt or not.
Posted by: W at May 5, 2005 01:49 PMAgain, I must pose the question --
Bodyswap between Bradke and El Presidente?
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 5, 2005 01:49 PMCarrieIC, I think you may be correct about Bradke and El Presidente switching bodies... all these strikeouts and the run support... it's odd. guess we'll see what happens tomorrow when Johan starts. maybe they'll have switched back by then.
maybe they should just trade before every game they pitch, and then they can both be El Presidente. yeah.
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 01:49 PMMaybe it's really Johan with a mask.
I can just see them sitting there, going "why is Brad Radke throwing left-handed?"
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 5, 2005 01:50 PMMan, they BETTER have switched back by then. El Presidente can possess every other pitcher we have-- but ONLY if he comes back in time for his own start.
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 01:51 PMLEROY!!! YAHOO!!!
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 01:51 PMBIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGG
LEROYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Stacy at May 5, 2005 01:51 PMAttaboy LeRoy! Someone give that man a donut!
Posted by: ndtf at May 5, 2005 01:51 PMOh yeah, LeCroy!
Posted by: sacky at May 5, 2005 01:51 PMOH YEAH! THAT's what we keep you for, Matty!
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 01:51 PMAccording to GameDay, that ball landed in Anoka. True or false?
Posted by: Ryan at May 5, 2005 01:52 PMKRISPY KREMES FOR A YEAR!!!! WHOOOOHOOOOOOO!!! WAY TO GO MATTY!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:52 PMAtta boy Sweetcheeks!
Posted by: Mic at May 5, 2005 01:52 PMNice
Posted by: Hughster at May 5, 2005 01:52 PMI just tuned in and saw LeCroy get the dinger!! All these runs, am I dreaming!?
Posted by: Shaun at May 5, 2005 01:52 PMI really like this game. it makes me smile.
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 01:52 PMLeRoy likes not having to sprint around the sacks. This trip took about a half an hour less than the last one. And he still can breathe.
Posted by: insider at May 5, 2005 01:53 PMShaun-
I wonder if Bradke is asking himself the same thing right now?
Katharriet-That's exactly what I just wrote my sister! "That's what we keep him for!"
Posted by: Just Beth at May 5, 2005 01:53 PMThe spirit of Johan and the spirit of Lyle Kohse are waging an invisible war for the bodies and spirits of the entire Twins pitching staff.
Booberry didn't mean to juice - it's just that Lyle possesed him for an evening. Boo - remember that off day when you slept for 30 hours? Remember that?
Lyle MUST be stopped! Go Johan-spirit!
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 5, 2005 01:53 PMWell, better to GIDP now than back when we had the bases loaded.
Posted by: Stacy at May 5, 2005 01:54 PMBack to the double play. I thought we'd put a stop to that.
Posted by: E at May 5, 2005 01:54 PMok.. so we manage to actually SCORE with the bases loaded and we are back to the GIDP problem??
What kind of torture is this? Are the baseball gods saying we must have one or the other!!??!?!
Posted by: CapitalBabs at May 5, 2005 01:54 PMcome on tiffee. We've freed you, now free torii from the basepaths... by way of home plate!
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:54 PMWell, I think we can officially say now that Terry Tiffee is, indeed, a Twin.
Posted by: CarrieIC at May 5, 2005 01:54 PMMr Tiffee-
We did not bring you back to ground into double plays! Please do not do it again! We forgive you this time
I don't like that DP, though.
perhaps we heaped too much pressure on the Tiffeenator? relax, kid, your mere presence is enough for us. just do what you do, and we'll all be happy.
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 01:55 PMHmmm... not exactly what i had in mind there, Tiffee. Its still good to have you back, though!
Oh, I get it, Carrie. Tiffee just GIDPed as part of a Twins initiation....
Well, good that that's over with, then.
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 01:56 PMDont blame TT. He just got up here. His spirit isn't toughened to the Lyle-war yet.
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 5, 2005 01:56 PMBradke, I love you. Very Much.
Posted by: Stacy at May 5, 2005 01:57 PMquestion...The "hit" the Indians had...shouldn't that just be one error for torii...like he got the error, why is the hit up there too? If he wouldn't have backed up on the ball before coming forward, he would have made the catch...so shouldn't Bradke still have a no hitter?
Posted by: Molly at May 5, 2005 01:57 PMoh. this is the whore who ruined Bradke's perfect game. sheesh.
glad you got him on the first pitch, Bradke!
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 01:58 PMWell, folks, with a 6-0 lead, and it being 5 hours until i have to wake up for tomorrow, i feel confident in leaving and going to bed knowing that Bradke will continue in his ass-kicking ways, the twins will win, and Captain Cheeseburger will enjoy his Lions Tap. I'm out like a Twin with the bases loaded!
P.S. Jason Bartlett is my Boyfrined!
Posted by: Tinger at May 5, 2005 01:58 PMMolly;
No, I think it wld have been a base hit, just not an EXTRA base hit if Torii hadn't misread it. Unfortunately.
So a day full of webgems, so naturally it's not televised.
These BEST make Baseball Tonight.
Posted by: Stacy at May 5, 2005 01:58 PMIt was a single, then a two base error. It was a legitimate base hit, he just should have been stopped at first.
Posted by: Ryan at May 5, 2005 01:58 PMOh ok, when I saw it, I thought it looked like Torii would have made that catch easily if he wouldn't have misread it...my bad
Posted by: Molly at May 5, 2005 02:00 PMOh ok, when I saw it, I thought it looked like Torii would have made that catch easily if he wouldn't have misread it...my bad
Grrrrrr....
I just called my buddy who works in St. Paul to see if he was "watching" the game on the internet, like I am, and the bastard is at the game.
Why did my company make me move to Indiana? :(
Posted by: Megawatt at May 5, 2005 02:01 PMLooks like a good time to see a little of the newbie out of the pen. C'mon, Scott Baker!
Posted by: Dr. Trivicon at May 5, 2005 02:02 PMCaptain Cheesburger:
4 1/3 innings - 95 pitches
Radke:
7 innings - 87 pitches
Just a piece of useful information - instead of working
Posted by: Hughster at May 5, 2005 02:02 PMWhat part of Indiana Mega? I'm going to school at Purdue... well, not for much longer... but I'm here.
Posted by: Ryan at May 5, 2005 02:03 PMDr. Trivicon, you'd pull Radke after 87 pitches with a one-hit shutout pending?
For shame!
Posted by: Megawatt at May 5, 2005 02:03 PMshouldn't we NOT be using the N-H phrase, in case what Molly says is true?
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 02:03 PMDoes Redmond look a bit like classic Dazzle?
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 5, 2005 02:03 PMRyan,
I work in Indy (technically north of Indy, in Carmel)
I was just at Purdue last weekend, visiting a friend of mine.
Posted by: Megawatt at May 5, 2005 02:04 PMHeck, all we did was THINK "perfect game" and it ended.... not that I'm superstitious.....
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 02:04 PMRivas wants to show he can be of value to the team, and as we all know, he can't actually HIT...
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 5, 2005 02:06 PMI'm sorry... Rivas just walked TWICE this game... this is very mixed up.
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 02:06 PMIsn't Indianapolis cute, how it tries to be a real city?
But yeah, two walks from Rivas. Keep an eye out for the 4 Horsemen.
Posted by: Ryan at May 5, 2005 02:07 PMWho'd a thunk? Evidently, the solution to the bases-loaded problem is to bench Morneau (.396), Mauer (.321), LNP (.235) and Jones (.354).
Posted by: Silo at May 5, 2005 02:07 PMMOTHER F***ER
I HATE it when Twins get hit by pitches...
Posted by: TwinsGoddess at May 5, 2005 02:07 PMso was that a mistake or was that a "dont steal when you are up 6 runs" HBP?
Posted by: twinsfanCA at May 5, 2005 02:07 PMWarnings issued... Look out!
Posted by: ndtf at May 5, 2005 02:07 PMThese Indians pitchers just cannot STOP giving us free bases!
Of course, if they've hurt Stewie, it's ON.
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 02:08 PMWHAT DID GARDY DO???
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 5, 2005 02:08 PMhey, Ryan, my cousin is at Purdue. she's an aeronautical engineering major and just finished a $40,000 internship at Boeing. makes me puke. but good for her, eh?
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 02:08 PMWHY IS THIS NOT ON TV, I ASK!?!?
Posted by: Stacy at May 5, 2005 02:08 PM... AND a Gardenhire ejection! Now the game's complete!
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 02:09 PMshould bring in lohse to hit someone, he could use some rest
Posted by: twinsfanCA at May 5, 2005 02:09 PMwhoa, thats what i get for leaving for 10 min..i missed out
Posted by: Mic at May 5, 2005 02:09 PMNot only does Rivas have two walks, he also has a hit. He must have sold his soul.
Posted by: E at May 5, 2005 02:10 PMNo city without a MLB team is a real city, but Indy is pretty cute. It's clean, like St. Paul, but the roads are nicely laid out and easy to follow.
I like walks, even by Rivas. Walks are good. I like OBP.
Posted by: Megawatt at May 5, 2005 02:10 PMThis is just screaming for a LegoVision re-enactment.
Posted by: ndtf at May 5, 2005 02:10 PMtfca - Its not really a steal when the ball goes to the backstop...
Posted by: NY-Brian at May 5, 2005 02:10 PM
I love Gardy.
ha! I bet the ump warned BOTH benches. Gardy hates that! but really, why warn both benches when Bradke's not done anything?
Posted by: kafumbly at May 5, 2005 02:11 PMIf it were 6/6/06 I can see 2 walks for Rivas having significance;)
Posted by: Hughster at May 5, 2005 02:11 PMNY-Brian: Gardy did the usual; he complained about the warning to both benches, since now his pitchers are at a disadvantage. Nine times out of ten, this is what Gardy gets ejected for. He HATES that rule.
Posted by: Katharriet at May 5, 2005 02:24 PMShe's gotta be pretty smart to stay afloat here. I know I've gotta take a lot of the same math/science classes as engineers, and I know they put in a lot of work. She should be proud of herself.
Now someone explain what's going on with the Stewie beanball.
Posted by: Ryan at May 5, 2005 02:25 PMBatgirl's webhost would like to appologize profusely for having to shut down the comments on this thread during the game. We love Batgirl and are working with her to try to come up with a solution for the Game Threads. Thanks for your understanding.
Posted by: FictCo at May 5, 2005 03:38 PMI was so upset I couldn't post right when I got home from the game! It was so great! I can't tell you how fun it was to see Brad TOTALLY dominate, Cap'n Cheesy TOTALLY fall apart, and Gardy kick dirt on the plate! I did, however, think of you all stuck back here in cyberspace, and imagined how frustrated you would be with all the "on-field delays" I figured you would be putting up with! Ha! But the best part was clicking the game thread and reading the first comment from tribe fan! Too funny!
Ahhhh, a lovely day. Unemployment definately has its upside.
Posted by: Pepper at May 5, 2005 07:11 PMSame here, Pepper. Also at the game, also was eager to read this thread when I got home and post.
Yeah, I had a hard time posting my banality. I thought perhaps there might be a Banal Filter keeping me from getting in.

Posted by: Ryan at May 5, 2005 08:25 PMboy... Cheeseburger really lets dirt get to him:
"MINNEAPOLIS -- Instead of worrying about the Twins, C.C. Sabathia found himself distracted by a chunk of uneven dirt on the pitcher's mound. He began digging into the dirt with his spikes to smooth it out. He never could get the dirt to his satisfaction. All he ended up doing Thursday afternoon was digging himself a hole. [I thought this was an especially clever pun for a sports reporter...]
Once Sabathia put too much thought into the mound, his pitching suffered. The Twins then got to Sabathia for five runs in the fifth inning and turned a pitchers' duel between he and right-hander Brad Radke into a 9-0 rout.
"I hate to make excuses, but it was tough," Sabathia said of the mound's condition. "But I still should have been throwing strikes."
might I just add how nice it was not to need any Ambiorix while following this game? well, I did pop ONE in the second inning when the Twins failed to capitalize on the first bases-loaded situation, but happily tossed them out in the 5th, once the bat-around-the-cheeseburger inning got going.
that was nice.
