Game Thread: Twins at KC

Come on boys, BG wants a sweep.

Yay, I am the first post! Post-BG, I mean.

Posted by: sacky at April 28, 2005 12:38 PM

I am watching the Crede incident from yesterday right now... I've got to see this!

Today, I have decided that I have found a way to not get upset after we lose games that Lohse starts:

I will now think of the game as a probable loss, and the Twins have to win not so much by beating the other pitcher, but instead by outdoing Lyle Kohse.

So today it's Twins hitters vs. Lyle Kohse.

Posted by: sacky at April 28, 2005 12:41 PM

no, no, sacky! positive thinking! we must enter this game with positive thoughts...

...

...

when can Gassner come back?

Posted by: kafumbly at April 28, 2005 12:43 PM

Yay!! A game to pass the time while at work!!

Go Twins!!

Posted by: Thart at April 28, 2005 12:44 PM

I'll take a sweep. And the reemergence of Kyle and the disappearance (Disapparition, maybe?) of Lyle. And lots of Legovision-worthy moments.

Posted by: The Commish at April 28, 2005 12:45 PM

Positive vibes for Kyle, please. If he wins today, he'll have a .500+ career record (42-41, per mlb.com). He'll be a winner(!) for another 5 days, and who knows what kind of effect that might have on his self-confidence.

Wouldn't it be nice to see him pitch a sixth inning (and maybe a seventh) that didn't give me ulcers? I'd love to trust him on the third time through the order.

Posted by: hrunting at April 28, 2005 12:46 PM

What time is the game on? My little pocket schedule states it's a 12:10 start, twinsbaseball.com states 1:10, and Sportsline.com states 2:10. It's all so confusing!

Posted by: Saajak at April 28, 2005 12:48 PM

Minnesotatwins.com reports 1:10pm CT start time. As far as I know thats it.

Posted by: Thart at April 28, 2005 12:51 PM

LNP="The Diesel" according to Gardy...too funny

Posted by: Shack Attack at April 28, 2005 12:58 PM

That Crede incident was blatant, and I'm not just saying that because he's a Bitch Sock. I don't think I've seen so obvious a case of leaning into a pitch. It was the right call. Even if it'd been a Twin, I'd say it was the right call.

Posted by: Andre at April 28, 2005 01:03 PM

alright...Lewwwwwww and LNP in the lineup!

Posted by: Shack Attack at April 28, 2005 01:05 PM

is there a way to listen to 'CCO online? radios don't get reception at my desk.

Posted by: kafumbly at April 28, 2005 01:06 PM

(based on the CBS listed lineup)

So Corky's starting today? While that can't be a good sign, at least he's on when Rivas is off. And hopefully LNP will keep up the good work today so the bottom third of our lineup doesn't become an abyss.

Posted by: AT at April 28, 2005 01:07 PM

Anybody care to guess the odds that Corky (Corky) Miller gets his first hit of the season today? If he does, I hope it's with the bases loaded.

Posted by: Andre at April 28, 2005 01:08 PM

Ahh, I'm living in the past. I was looking at last week's gametime on my little pocket schedule. 1:10 it is!

Posted by: Saajak at April 28, 2005 01:09 PM

I don't think CCO has been informed that the "Internet" exists yet. Even if you could get their feed online, I think live sporting events are licensed so they can't broadcast them on the net. I know that's the case with KFAN and Vikings games.

Posted by: Andre at April 28, 2005 01:09 PM

YES! my boy Corky is in the lineup

Posted by: James at April 28, 2005 01:09 PM

Yes, there is, kafumbly, but it's not free. Buy the Gameday audio from mlb.com for about 15 bucks for the season. You can get WCCO feeds on there, although sometimes there's a time lag of a minute or so. It's not perfect, but what is?

Posted by: Katharriet at April 28, 2005 01:10 PM

Wait, that last bit came off a little negative. I think we'll see Kyle and a sweep, and that the Dr will come back from yesterday's hitless outing with two hits and some rbi, and that my boy Boo will get at least two strikeouts in a non-stressful, game-already-in-the-bag appearance.

Posted by: AT at April 28, 2005 01:11 PM

Los Angeles Angels of Anneheim - how do they fit that on their road uniforms?

Posted by: luckylager at April 28, 2005 01:11 PM

Runelvys Hernandez has pledged that he will win today:

“This stops (today),” Hernandez pledged. “(Wednesday) was my birthday, but I'm not celebrating until (today). We're winning (today).”

The quote is from the KC Star. I am listening to the game on XM and the Royals radio crew the quote probably was posted in the Twins' clubhouse and they are wondering if it will get the boys fired up.

Posted by: Franorama at April 28, 2005 01:12 PM

Very small writing or very large uniforms...

Posted by: ndtf at April 28, 2005 01:12 PM

If we don't get a new stadium, maybe we'll be known as the Minnesota Twins of Las Vegas

Posted by: luckylager at April 28, 2005 01:14 PM

About Lohse: Rick Anderson said after Lohse's last start that Kyle was using too many pitches, like 5 I think. Anderson wanted him to cut out 1 or 2 and just stick with his 3 strongest (not sure which ones he said). Maybe that's the solution for all of Lyle's problems! I would be so happy if something like that would do the trick, and then Kyle could become the superstar that we all want him to be. But then, why didn't Andy think of that sooner, like last year maybe?

Posted by: Pepper at April 28, 2005 01:15 PM

They hit Lew! That is not okay!

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 01:15 PM

ok, you can bet Lew didn't lean into that one!

stupid Hernandez, hitting my other boyfriend with a pitch... geez.

Posted by: kafumbly at April 28, 2005 01:16 PM

Hey now - don't be throwing at LEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 28, 2005 01:16 PM

guess you can't pitch with your mouth.

Posted by: Shack Attack at April 28, 2005 01:16 PM

A lead!

Posted by: Shack Attack at April 28, 2005 01:17 PM

The Dr. is in!!

Posted by: luckylager at April 28, 2005 01:17 PM

Yay!!! We've got the lead in the first inning! I could get used to this!

Posted by: Pepper at April 28, 2005 01:17 PM

Yay! Sweet! The Dr. gets it done!

This whole early lead thing is getting unnerving...

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 01:17 PM

alright doctor!!!

Posted by: James at April 28, 2005 01:18 PM

woohoo! way to go, Doc!

WE SCORED FIRST!

Posted by: kafumbly at April 28, 2005 01:18 PM

We scored in the top of the first! I'm not sure what to do with myself. I think I'll cuddle my kitten in glee.

Posted by: ysolla at April 28, 2005 01:18 PM

Too bad that didn't go out, but I'll take a sac fly over a plain old out any day of the week...

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 01:18 PM

Too bad Runelvys, maybe on your next birthday

Posted by: luckylager at April 28, 2005 01:20 PM

Dear Twins-

I feel bad for talking smack about you.

Here, have a base. Or two. Or three.

-R. Hern

Posted by: R. Hernandez at April 28, 2005 01:21 PM

Don't get too confident yet, luckylager... it's not the Minnesotan way!

Posted by: sacky at April 28, 2005 01:21 PM

woo! Juan's workin' the count! you go!

Posted by: kafumbly at April 28, 2005 01:21 PM

Dude, this is great!!!

Posted by: sacky at April 28, 2005 01:22 PM

Y'know, I'm beginning to feel bad for the Royals.

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 01:22 PM

Woo-HOOOOOOO!

Posted by: infield at April 28, 2005 01:23 PM

luckylager

The Los Angelas Angels of Anaheim should just abreviate their name to Triple A. You should never leave home without them, ifI may mix my metaphors. But just think of the corprate sponsership.

Yeah Castro! Three runs in the top of the first. I don't know if I can stand the excitement.

Now don't stop the streak Corky.

Posted by: ysolla at April 28, 2005 01:23 PM

Sorry sacky, my bad.

Posted by: luckylager at April 28, 2005 01:23 PM

Why does Corky's photo on Gameday make him look like he is constipated? Don't they get to choose their photo? Do they just take one and they're stuck with it?

At least he has the cool flyaway hair thing going on.

-NYB

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 28, 2005 01:24 PM

I like that this guy felt he had to pitch around Jacque for the 4 pitch walk. I am slightly disappointed, however, that he could just walk him to get to Juan Castro.

And Castro comes through anyway!

Way to start the game off right, boys!

Posted by: AT at April 28, 2005 01:24 PM

OK Kyle bring on your MAGIC!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Tbone at April 28, 2005 01:25 PM

I sure am glad we have Corky up in the majors instead of Tiffee.....

(*Please note heavy sarcasm...)

-NYB

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 28, 2005 01:25 PM

Carrie,

Everyone feels bad for the Royals. Not least, the Royals themselves. That doesn't stop anyone from enjoying the results, though. Except the Royals.

Posted by: infield at April 28, 2005 01:25 PM

Corky sucks. Free Terry Tiffee!

Posted by: E at April 28, 2005 01:25 PM

aww man. i know corky WILL get a hit today

Posted by: James at April 28, 2005 01:25 PM

Except the whole 8 catchers thing was strangely prescient, what with Mike Redmond being hurt!

Posted by: Batgirl at April 28, 2005 01:27 PM

ysolla, you did knock on something after you said that, right?

BTW, as adorable as LNP is, my vote for the kitten's name is Lew, since your sis isn't quite ready to commit to naming her first offspring after him.

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 01:27 PM

Well Corky, you're functioning up to par. Come on Kyle, we gave you some runs. That's more than we ever give Bradke.

Posted by: ysolla at April 28, 2005 01:27 PM

Well, we have to give Kyle a fighting chance, don't we? I mean, it's all about making it a challenge...

Except for Johan. We'll score lots of runs for him. 'Cause he's Johan.

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 28, 2005 01:29 PM

This broadcast is terrible...you don't even get an icon telling you the count or anything

Posted by: Jonathon at April 28, 2005 01:30 PM

So when Kyle does it we just call it a K, right?

K

Posted by: AT at April 28, 2005 01:30 PM

look how thoughtful our Twins are

from todays STRIB, talking about Grant Balfour:

Meanwhile, Balfour's teammates thought about sending him a get-well card, just to needle him a bit.

Posted by: James at April 28, 2005 01:30 PM

Okay, that wasn't so bad at all! Keep it up, Kyle! *knocks on wood*

Posted by: sacky at April 28, 2005 01:31 PM

1-2-3? Woohoo!

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 28, 2005 01:31 PM

I left the radio on at home for Tumbleweed. c'mon, li'l Nicky! make my kitty happy!

Posted by: kafumbly at April 28, 2005 01:32 PM

Yes Carrie I knocked on something, but it was the top of my computer so I'm not sure that counts. I could go for Lew. I have to agree with Kat about the lack of offspring named Lew. You see, she's hoping for girls, and the poor kid would grow uo with a complex.

Wait to go Kyle! That's the last hit Sweeney's allowed this game, right Kyle?

Posted by: ysolla at April 28, 2005 01:33 PM

How'd that inning end? Had to step away from my desk, and Gameday shows the double by Sweeney, with no out following. Stupid Gameday.

Posted by: infield at April 28, 2005 01:33 PM

wow.. this is what happens when I can't catch the beginning of the game!?!!? darn work anyway..

Way to go guys and I'm terribly impressed with first inning runs. And it appears that Kyle is present today - at least for the first inning.

Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 28, 2005 01:34 PM

Somewhat off-topic:
Ysolla, I'm trying to call you at home, sister dear. Aren't you there? Call me at work.

On-topic:
Man, I loved that first inning.

Posted by: Katharriet at April 28, 2005 01:34 PM

Well, 1-2-double-3, but that's good enough for me.

Hey, I made a rhyme!

Posted by: sacky at April 28, 2005 01:34 PM

Lil' Nicky Punto is an inspiration for small, cute animals everywhere, not the least of which are kittens.

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 01:34 PM

aw, Nicky...

Posted by: kafumbly at April 28, 2005 01:35 PM

Go Shannon! There's my boy.

Posted by: ysolla at April 28, 2005 01:35 PM

Rise and shine, Lew...

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 01:37 PM

Dear Twins,

Please don't hit the ball quite so hard.

Shack

Posted by: Shack Attack at April 28, 2005 01:37 PM

Stupid deJesus. He was on fire at the plate last night, and now he's making great catches. Fooey on him.

Posted by: ysolla at April 28, 2005 01:37 PM

Lew... *groan*

what bench minors are to the Wild, GIDPs are to the Twins.

it's sad, really.

Posted by: kafumbly at April 28, 2005 01:38 PM

awwww... not a DP. =(

Posted by: Thart at April 28, 2005 01:38 PM

It's like deJesus walks on water

Posted by: luckylager at April 28, 2005 01:39 PM

But that wasn't a GIDP.

It was a fly out and Stewart was doubled up.

Posted by: heraldguy at April 28, 2005 01:39 PM

You know, the lining out to a double play is just about as annoying as a GIDP.

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 01:39 PM

oops... Lew's was a liner. DPs, then, to the Twins...

Posted by: kafumbly at April 28, 2005 01:40 PM

That was a LIDP.....

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 28, 2005 01:40 PM

Nobody's fault. Sounds like it was a great catch.

Posted by: Batgirl at April 28, 2005 01:40 PM

Just tuned in...

C'mon ump, give Kyle some love. Sounds like he's had a decent start.

Posted by: Carmen at April 28, 2005 01:42 PM

Ok, i'm here. Couple of things real quick.

1- as soon as i found out Cuddyer got a hit last night (after i got up from fainting) i figured for some reason he'd get today off. I don't get that.

B. Its awesome to see we have a 3-0 lead and it looks like we're hittin the skin off the ball.

Last- i'm still upset and don't feel quite right about this because Corky (Corky) Miller is playing, and that means we only get 8 outs per 3 innings, and i feel that we're being cheated.

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 01:43 PM

Yay Twins turn a DP!

Posted by: ndtf at April 28, 2005 01:43 PM

Bartlett and Punto...I love ya, boys!!

Posted by: Carmen at April 28, 2005 01:43 PM

BG -

Ever the voice of reason ;-)

Posted by: heraldguy at April 28, 2005 01:43 PM

Siddown! DP!

Posted by: Shack Attack at April 28, 2005 01:43 PM

Bartlett and Punto...I love ya, boys!!

Posted by: Carmen at April 28, 2005 01:43 PM

yahoo! a GOOD kind of DP, where it happens to the OTHER team!

Posted by: kafumbly at April 28, 2005 01:44 PM

I want Kyle to throw less pitches, but he's looking good.

Katharriet, re your earlier off-topic post: I think one of the greatest things about these game threads is being able to watch games with family from afar. I've really enjoyed getting to see these games with my brother here. Thanks, BG!

Posted by: AT at April 28, 2005 01:45 PM

Come on Dr!

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 01:46 PM

Damn straight, AT!

the fun thing about today is i dont feel bad when a guy gets out, because we're gonna get about 6 AB each by the end of this game! and we're gonna win 11-1

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 01:47 PM

Unless we keep striking out or having 1-2-3 innings

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 01:47 PM

Does anyone else think the Royals mascot (the Lion whose head is half-lion half-crown) is creepy?

Posted by: sacky at April 28, 2005 01:50 PM

Do they really have a hot tub in the outfield stands at the royals stadium? Man, thats what i'm talkin about... no matter how poor the team is, they have a kick ass stadium!

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 01:50 PM

Apologies about the double post. Who's commentating today with Gordo?

And boys, I know we had a really good first inning, but there's no need to rest on the laurels. Give Kyle a nice big cushion.

Posted by: Carmen at April 28, 2005 01:51 PM

I like your predictions, Tinger. It worked well yesterday!

Posted by: Batgirl at April 28, 2005 01:51 PM

Carmen, that would be Black Jack Morris!

Posted by: Batgirl at April 28, 2005 01:52 PM

Um, Kyle? Don't make me nervous.

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 01:52 PM

Kyle, I don't like this. de Jesus is up with two on and nobody out. You know deJesus has our number, right?

Posted by: ysolla at April 28, 2005 01:52 PM

we all should rent a bus and make a trip to kauffman stadium sometime

Posted by: James at April 28, 2005 01:53 PM

Sigh.

Posted by: Batgirl at April 28, 2005 01:53 PM

Kyle... come on, you can do it...

Posted by: kafumbly at April 28, 2005 01:53 PM

They also have a hot tub at Miller Park in Milwaukee, but it seemed like people weren't really into it there. Apparently people in Milwaukee don't have whatever it takes to watch baseball from a hot tub, even though I would think "whatever it takes" would just be beer. Weird.

Posted by: AT at April 28, 2005 01:54 PM

Well aint that some shit.

that was not sexy at all.

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 01:54 PM

Ladies and gentlemen, Lyle Kohse.

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 01:54 PM

Oh no!

LYLE!!!!!!!!

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 28, 2005 01:54 PM

The Bottom of the Third: Lyle Strikes Back

Posted by: Andre at April 28, 2005 01:55 PM

Lyle, a triple?! We give you three runs, and this is how you repay us? My guinea pig could pitch better than that.

Posted by: ysolla at April 28, 2005 01:55 PM

Sigh indeed. I just missed what happened because the inept fools who are in charge of the radio station that carries the games here pushed a wrong button so I got to listen to commercials. Although given the change in score, maybe I'd rather hear a promo for Jim Rome. Either way, I was mouthing some not-so-nice words about the station.

Posted by: ndtf at April 28, 2005 01:55 PM

Thanks BG.

Oh, Kyle. *sigh*

Posted by: Carmen at April 28, 2005 01:55 PM

Tinger,

you ever been to Midway to see the Saints? You can sit in the hottub there!

Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 28, 2005 01:55 PM

AT- i'd love to have a "whatever it takes" right now.

Lyle, go home. Bring Kyle back. Make the game fun again.

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 01:56 PM

KYLE... did you hear me?! YOU CAN DO IT!

please? do it... please? get 'em out...

Posted by: kafumbly at April 28, 2005 01:57 PM

OK, that's better Kyle...but be careful, Mike Sweeney always makes me nervous.

Posted by: Carmen at April 28, 2005 01:57 PM

Okay Lyle, you got the strikeout, but Sweeney's up. Dig deep, use the Force.

Posted by: ysolla at April 28, 2005 01:58 PM

one down! keep doing that.

Posted by: kafumbly at April 28, 2005 01:58 PM

I don't like it when that Goat guy can work the count, even if he strikes out.

Posted by: AT at April 28, 2005 01:58 PM

no.

no no no.

Posted by: kafumbly at April 28, 2005 02:00 PM

ndfh:
i assure you that if your radio station had a 'live' man oping the bord, the problem would of been corrected immediatly

Posted by: james at April 28, 2005 02:01 PM

Okay people, this is so so hard, but I promised myself I'd turn off the radio and close the game thread window at 2:00 so I can write cover letters and get resumes ready to send out. God I hate job hunting! Why can't somebody pay me to watch baseball games??? Kinda like the how the White Sox commentators get paid to watch baseball games! I must say goodbye...and the game's tied! Life is so unfair...
*weeping profusely and waving sadly*

Posted by: Pepper at April 28, 2005 02:01 PM

Man, Lyle, i hate you.

I need to get to some hot tubbin parks when i get back into the real world. I think i'll spend the first summer doing just that.

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 02:01 PM

And that was sadness.

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 02:01 PM

Crap crap crap crap crap crap crap.

And again I say, crap.

Posted by: infield at April 28, 2005 02:01 PM

Pepper, you have more self-discipline than I. Maybe 10x more. Good luck with that.

Was that Kyle back after the triple?

Posted by: AT at April 28, 2005 02:03 PM

well when you get back Tinger, get a hold of a bunch of us locals and we'll get a hot tub trip together for the Saints. That way you don't have to road trip so soon after getting back..

After all, it will be awhile before the new outdoor stadium is done for the Twins anyway - Midway is my substitute.

Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 28, 2005 02:03 PM

Man, we never give that kind of run support to Bradke, and here's Lyle wasting it...

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 02:03 PM

Bradke would kill for that lead, Lyle. He'd KILL.

And you just.....just BLOW it!

Ok, boys. More runs...

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 28, 2005 02:03 PM

Pepper-
If you find this magical job, please let me know. It would sure beat my current job! And then I wouldn't have to get cable either.

BTW, about the radio station I am listening to... I think they do have a live guy there, he's just *that* stupid.

Posted by: ndtf at April 28, 2005 02:03 PM

Dagnammit Lyle, see if anybody ever gives you a lead ever again. It's obvious you don't properly appreciate them. Black Jack says you need to vary the speed on you pitches, so vary them for heaven's sake. maybe we should ask jack to pitch? He can't be any worse that Old Man Mulholland.

Okay, a strikeout begins to ameliorate your sins, but don't give up anymore runs.

End rant.

Posted by: ysolla at April 28, 2005 02:04 PM

The prospect of the poorhouse provides good motivation. But see, I haven't actually gone yet! No, this time I mean it...

Posted by: Pepper at April 28, 2005 02:04 PM

Well, at least he came back and got us out of it.

Dear Kyle,

You are no longer authorized to take half-inning breaks to go to the hot dog stand. Their hot dogs aren't dome dogs, anyway. Please stay for the rest of the game. Lyle is not an adequate backup. Thank you.

Respectfully,
Tinger

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 02:04 PM

Babs- Locals, hot tubs, beer. SOLD!

DAMMIT CORKY. I hate you. Really. Sometimes i say i hate people, and i don't mean it because hate is such a strong word. But not with you. I hate you.

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 02:06 PM

Alright boys, we've already established that Kyle and Lyle are battling for control of this game. Therefore the lineup should put some runs up lest Lyle gain the upper hand.

So less of the craptastic 1-2-3 innings, thanks.

Posted by: Carmen at April 28, 2005 02:07 PM

well, that was a sad top of the fourth. I hope the bottom will be happier.

Posted by: kafumbly at April 28, 2005 02:07 PM

Well, that was a shitty inning!

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 02:08 PM

Wow, the royals hat game is damn near tough! those hats really get moving. I still picked the right one, even without watching the whole thing. Damn, i used up all my luck on the stupid hat game. i hate when that happens.

(jason bartlett is my boyfriend)

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 02:09 PM

Apperantly there's a battle going on for our pitcher's soul. Dr. Lohse versus Mr. Kohse...

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 02:10 PM

Pepper,

GL with the job search, i'm in the same boat as you! I actually got a rejection letter today, so i'm going to take a day off the search and allow myself to sulk and watch the game. I've earned that right? They better win, or else this isn't a very happy day. =(

Posted by: Thart at April 28, 2005 02:10 PM

Did anyone else hear during last night's game that Lew will be at a Buffalo Wild Wings on Saturday at noon-ish? I didn't hear which one though. :( Perhaps someone else heard and could tell the rest of us?

Posted by: ndtf at April 28, 2005 02:11 PM

Now, we play my game:

Twins batters: 3
Lyle Kohse: 3

all tied up, go Twins! Beat LK!

Posted by: sacky at April 28, 2005 02:12 PM

Did anyone else have a vision of Corky (corky) dropping that ball?

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 02:12 PM

What is the Royals hat-game?

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 28, 2005 02:12 PM

EWWW! Anyone else watching the KC tv feed?

Those animated hot dogs running the bases are disgusting!

Posted by: sacky at April 28, 2005 02:13 PM

Anyone else enjoying Corky's quest for excellence as much as I am? Can he be MLB's equivalent to Savannah State in NCAA BB?

Posted by: JHK at April 28, 2005 02:13 PM

Oh man, Hot dog race time! i got my money on relish!

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 02:13 PM

Plus, mustard won. Mustard should NEVER win!!!!

Posted by: sacky at April 28, 2005 02:14 PM

So, we get Kyle for a half inning. Now, the Twins must make some runs.

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 02:15 PM

I am a big mustard fan

Posted by: luckylager at April 28, 2005 02:15 PM

Dammit, see, i used up all my luck on the hat game..

Brian- they're playing the stadium games on MLB.TV between innings. The hat game is the one where they put the ball under one of three hats and they switch them around...

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 02:15 PM

OK, top of the order. Come on, studs.

Posted by: edge at April 28, 2005 02:16 PM

this is a good time for a big inning. Kinda like the first inning. Only bigger. Come on guys. humor me here.

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 02:16 PM

Thanks Ting.

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 28, 2005 02:16 PM

You bet Brian, i'd hate to leave you in the dark on something as exciting as the hat game!

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 02:17 PM

ugh, why do we insist upon making mediocre Royals starters look good?

Posted by: sacky at April 28, 2005 02:18 PM

come on LEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 02:18 PM

man, stop the hatin on Corky.

Posted by: james at April 28, 2005 02:18 PM

HAHAHAHA Lew bunted the ball into his face!

Posted by: sacky at April 28, 2005 02:18 PM

He bunted his helmet off? Man I wish this game were on T.V.

Posted by: tsolla at April 28, 2005 02:19 PM

Did lew just bunt that ball off of his forehead?!

man... only Lew...

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 02:19 PM

Lew! Lew! Don't do that!

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 02:19 PM

Poor Lew, I shouldn't laugh.

Posted by: sacky at April 28, 2005 02:19 PM

Only Lew. Only Lew. Heh. That's the real reason he's my boyfriend. He adds surreality to my existence.

Posted by: Katharriet at April 28, 2005 02:20 PM

Whoa, this pitcher is having some control problems. I blame the cute little braids he's got in his hair.

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 02:21 PM

Lyle returns, then pulls his back? I am confused, anyone catch that?

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 02:32 PM

To anyone out there who still thinks Kyle Lohse doesn't totally suck at baseball:

Uhh, what?!? You must be totally high/stupid!! If so, you should stop being totally high/stupid. Thank you.

Warmest personal regards,

Blue Ox

P.S. Is it immoral to burn a Twins jersey? Because I want to buy a Lohse jersey just to very publicly burn it.

Posted by: Blue Ox at April 28, 2005 02:33 PM

Was anyone else really surprised to learn that this was Lyle's first hit batter of the season?

Posted by: infield at April 28, 2005 02:33 PM

So, what happened to Lyle?

I hope it was an inner-battle of good (Kyle) vs. Evil (Lyle).

Posted by: Stacy at April 28, 2005 02:33 PM

Oh we're back... cool! what'd lyle do now? hurt himself? sheesh!

i have faith in Guerrier though.

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 02:34 PM

>>>Lyle returns, then pulls his back? I am confused, anyone catch that?

I'm not sure what happened either, but maybe Kyle figured it was the best way to get Lyle off the mound without doing further damage to the score.

Posted by: ndtf at April 28, 2005 02:34 PM

Apparently Lyle knew that Kyle was too strong to be overpowered today, so Lyle just put Kyle out of commission altogether.

Lyle is really evil. We should call an exorcist.

Posted by: Carmen at April 28, 2005 02:35 PM

has to be what it was, stacy.

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 02:36 PM

That does make some sense. Very self-sacrificing of Kyle.

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 02:36 PM

Come on Guerrier!

Posted by: Trixie_T at April 28, 2005 02:36 PM

I apologize for the technical difficulties. Now that all is well, we should score more runs, I think.

Posted by: Batgirl at April 28, 2005 02:37 PM

Kyle always was the team player of the two...

well, for OUR team, anyway

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 02:38 PM

The battle between Kyle and Lyle was so potent, it release electro-magnetic waves, interfering with our website. Truly evil.

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 02:38 PM

Wow, it really sounds like the 6 KC fans are getting fired up!

Posted by: ndtf at April 28, 2005 02:38 PM

Ever wonder what it would be like to be one of the 6 KC fans?

Posted by: Stacy at April 28, 2005 02:39 PM

well, BG, if that was all about run production, then i'm down with the whole thing, and i'm expecting it about once a game from here on out.

Otherwise, i'll just let it go for this time and carry on as though nothing happened.

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 02:39 PM

Just kinda the same as it was for us in about 93-96 i figure.

Posted by: Tinger at April 28, 2005 02:40 PM

Guerrer's my new best friend.

Posted by: ysolla at April 28, 2005 02:41 PM

I think being a KC fan would be kind of depressing. The one good thing about it is that you would always be able to get good seats!

Posted by: ndtf at April 28, 2005 02:41 PM

Whew.

Thank goodness Kyle sabotaged Lyle when he did, or who knows where we would be.

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 02:41 PM

I would just like to mention my intense love for Morneau.

And my dismay that Corky (Corky) Miller is catching.

Posted by: Stacy at April 28, 2005 02:42 PM

I would imagine being one of the 6 KC fans would be a lot like this:

1) Wake up
2) Wish it was still the 80's.
3) Put on George Brett jersey.
4) Really wish it was still the 80's.
5) Watch baseball
6) Really really wish it was still the 80's.
7) Cry
8) Sleep

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 28, 2005 02:43 PM

i see these royals as the twins of the late 90's. they got some good young players. they just need experience

Posted by: james at April 28, 2005 02:43 PM

The report is that "Kyle" was suffering from shoulder stiffness. Funny, they forgot to mention the need for an exorcism.

Posted by: ndtf at April 28, 2005 02:43 PM

Yes, I think Kyle should gets some kind of an award for taking out Lyle before things got too ugly. Perhaps honorary BOD?

Does anyone else's radio station keep randomly going to commercial during ABs?

Amazing. Simply amazing!!

Posted by: Stacy at April 28, 2005 02:46 PM

that was way too predictable. I may not always like surprises, but it would be nice if Corky could hit the ball fair and away from any members of the opposing team... just once.

Posted by: kafumbly at April 28, 2005 02:46 PM

So, who goes on the disabled list, Kyle or Lyle? Can we leave Corky in K.C. somehow?Al

Posted by: al at April 28, 2005 02:46 PM

stacy: what station are you listening to?

Posted by: james at April 28, 2005 02:47 PM

NY-Brian, you forgot about getting laughed at by fans of other teams.

Posted by: ndtf at April 28, 2005 02:47 PM

I really like the idea of leaving Corky (Corky) in KC. Maybe tell him the flight is later?

I am listening on KRFO and getting more than I but frustrated.

DANG IT! That nice man's not going to win a Snapper Walk- Behind Mower!

Posted by: Stacy at April 28, 2005 02:48 PM

The hitters, so excited by their three first-inning runs, apparently have decided to reward themselves by taking the rest of the game off. That's not going to cut it, boys.

To save time, they should just call Corky out before he even steps into the box.

Posted by: Andre at April 28, 2005 02:49 PM

more than a bit*

That's how frustrated I am. Can't even type. Dang radio.

Posted by: kafumbly at April 28, 2005 02:52 PM

Stacy-
I know how you feel. The people at the station here (KXMR in Bismarck) aren't real intelligent either. They play commercials during at-bats, and then don't play commercials when they're supposed to.

Aww, LNP. You run that guy down. I keep imagining this little kitten jumping on the cleets of the runner.

Good job Guerrer.

Posted by: sacky at April 28, 2005 02:53 PM

I'm sure the team is trying to keep the whole Lyle problem quiet...Kyle doesn't need the whole 'possessed by an evil alternate personality' stigma to add to his issues.

*hexes runelvys*

Posted by: sacky at April 28, 2005 02:55 PM

I am so very, very tempted to do a few key rewrites of the Wildhorn musical Jekyll and Hyde... Lohse and Kohse would do a great battle-of-the-soul duet.

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 02:55 PM

Very good point, Carmen.

LNP, Please don't strike out again. Thanks.

Posted by: Stacy at April 28, 2005 02:56 PM

Tumbleweed is crying in her kitty kibble.

Posted by: kafumbly at April 28, 2005 02:56 PM

That could be Carmen, but maybe if the team would admit to the whole Lyle/Kyle thing, all the Twins fans would pray to the religious being of their choice, and Lyle would go away. It's worth a shot...

Posted by: ndtf at April 28, 2005 02:57 PM

Maybe it'll be like Rookie of the Year, and he'll come back as a super-fast star pitcher!

Posted by: Dr. Trivicon at April 28, 2005 03:27 PM

Oh, Corky (Corky)

Posted by: Batgirl at April 28, 2005 03:27 PM

That Sisco kid is tough. Hopefully they're not smart enough to move him back to a starter like he was in the minors.

Posted by: alskntwnsfn at April 28, 2005 03:28 PM

aww man

come on Corky

8(

on my MVP Baseball 2004, Corky is my all star catcher

Posted by: James at April 28, 2005 03:29 PM

Well, he does seem to be tough. But striking out Corky-Corky doesn't really add to that perception. Didn't batmom strike him out last week?

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 28, 2005 03:29 PM

Man, this Commander Sisco guy is just destroying guys.

Posted by: sacky at April 28, 2005 03:29 PM

How about if we have out DH hit for Corky rather than the pitcher from now on.

Posted by: SDave at April 28, 2005 03:29 PM

Whoever said Corcorky would get a hit LIED!!

*sigh*

Posted by: Thart at April 28, 2005 03:29 PM

Is this a usual performance for Sisco, or was it just ass-battery?

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 03:30 PM

Damn LNP was on yesterday. Today he's wearing the hood. 3 k's.

Posted by: alskntwnsfn at April 28, 2005 03:30 PM

Hilarious, Sacky. Hilarious.

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 28, 2005 03:30 PM

LNP, that's not what good kitty boyfriends do... 0-4 is not attractive.

Posted by: kafumbly at April 28, 2005 03:31 PM

Lately I feel like I've been about as productive at work as a Corky Miller at bat.

Posted by: ndtf at April 28, 2005 03:31 PM

Dearest Ms IC,

No, Commander Sisco is quite good at baseball.

Love,
BG

Posted by: Batgirl at April 28, 2005 03:32 PM

Someone may have mentioned this in a previous thread, but on CBS Sportsline's Game Center, they list the batters with (R) or (L) after their names to indicate whether they hit righty or lefty. Thus, LNP reads as "N. Punto (L)."

Posted by: Redbird at April 28, 2005 03:33 PM

Oh dear.

Posted by: Batgirl at April 28, 2005 03:33 PM

Dear Boo,

Stop it!!!

Yours,
Sacky

Posted by: sacky at April 28, 2005 03:33 PM

OH. CORKY. NO.

Posted by: kafumbly at April 28, 2005 03:34 PM

OK, how about if we have our DH hit AND field for Corky from now on.

Posted by: SDave at April 28, 2005 03:34 PM

Dear Boo,
You're a better pitcher than this. Really. You are. Check your stats.
All the love,
ndtf

Posted by: ndtf at April 28, 2005 03:34 PM

Dear Corky-Corky-

The primary job of a catcher is to CATCH the ball. Especially if they can't hit.

Seriously. We might as well put LeCory back there. Or LNP.

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 28, 2005 03:35 PM

What the hell is this?!? Juan... get your act together!

Posted by: Haplo at April 28, 2005 03:35 PM

Oh, Boo. NO.

Andy Sisco and David DeJesus = Lone bright spot for awful KC team.

Sisco - 1.12 ERA 16 IP 18/6 K/BB
DeJesus - .315/.390/.466

Posted by: alskntwnsfn at April 28, 2005 03:37 PM

Posted by: sacky at April 28, 2005 03:37 PM

Good thing we have corky to back up Mauer

Posted by: tjacobits at April 28, 2005 03:37 PM

Posted by: Redbird at April 28, 2005 03:38 PM

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 03:38 PM

Don't make me come down there, Juan.

Posted by: infield at April 28, 2005 03:38 PM

Posted by: Terry Tiffee at April 28, 2005 03:36 PM

We know, TT. We know.

Posted by: ndtf at April 28, 2005 03:39 PM

Why do they Twins always have to find a way to blow or almost blow a lead!? Come on Juan, get your head on straight!! You aren't JC!

Posted by: Shaun at April 28, 2005 03:39 PM

...and Gardenhire is running on the to the field and pointing to his right arm. Its time for a Cambria catching change and in comes Matty Lecroy.

Posted by: SDave at April 28, 2005 03:39 PM

Warm up the Nathanest. Fast.

Posted by: sacky at April 28, 2005 03:39 PM

CORKY.

Maybe you don't care about your career, or your stats. But for god's sake, what about your legacy? Surely you want to leave the game with some sort of legacy? Only Royals leave the game without a legacy. You're not a Royal, are you?

Posted by: Dr. Trivicon at April 28, 2005 03:40 PM

Y'know, I heard this rumor awhile back, that we're supposed to have the best pitchers in baseball on our team...

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 03:40 PM

I agree.. I think Mulholland pitched great last night and would love to come in right now.

BG, can we please start a petition to deliver to Gardy with our opinion that the Corky/Tiffee trade up should happen soon?? Tiffee can play first if we need the back up there instead of LeRoy who seems to be a better catcher the Corky anyway!

Posted by: CapitalBabs at April 28, 2005 03:41 PM

Who said the good Doctor can't field?

Posted by: sacky at April 28, 2005 03:41 PM

This is some Ulcer ball right now

Posted by: tjacobits at April 28, 2005 03:41 PM

So, Corky (Corky) Miller is being kept on the roster because we need a better defensive 3rd catching option.

??????????????????????????

??????????????????????????

Is he really ANY better than LeRoy? At least LeRoy knows how to use a bat.

I'd sooo much rather have Tiffee or even Augie Ojeda (and Ojeda Daddy) on the bench.

Posted by: double-a at April 28, 2005 03:41 PM

The Dr. saves the day.

And SIT DOWN, John Buck!

Posted by: infield at April 28, 2005 03:44 PM

*reaches for the Tums*

Posted by: CarrieIC at April 28, 2005 03:44 PM

Bring on anything-but-average Joe!!!

Posted by: gopher38 at April 28, 2005 03:44 PM

Well, Lewww's batting in the top of the ninth, so we should get one more run before they come up to bat again.

Posted by: Dr. Trivicon at April 28, 2005 03:44 PM

Alright Boo, the 95mph fastball K was cool, but it doesn't makeup for the jackassery that took place before it.

Now you and Corky go sit in the corner and think about what you've done.

Posted by: Carmen at April 28, 2005 03:45 PM

Just go ahead and close us out already. Dang.
ooo, we're only down by one. Pffft.

Posted by: Royals Fan at April 28, 2005 03:45 PM

Why do I get the impression that Corky (Corky) Miller is some schlub construction worker who wandered into spring training drunk and decided to pretend to be a major leaguer? And why are we letting him pretend?

Posted by: Katharriet at April 28, 2005 03:46 PM

The pic on Gameday was funny for Buck's K. He was up 2-0 and Juan struck him out on 3 pitches down the middle. Over-matched.

Posted by: alskntwnsfn at April 28, 2005 03:46 PM

Corky Miller is now 1 for 50 in the 2004-05 seasons combined. And couple that with a PB and some WP = NON MAJOR LEAGUE BALL PLAYA.

Posted by: T Money at April 28, 2005 03:46 PM

Time to take your Ambiorix

Posted by: heraldguy at April 28, 2005 03:46 PM

Sorry I'm late to thread today. Work called. Anyway, it's "nice" to know what happened to allow that fourth run in. All Gameday would say was that Graffanino stuck out, but with the bold indicating that someone scored on the play. I was all confuzzled until I came over...

Posted by: mk at April 28, 2005 03:47 PM

Yeah, that was some serious ass-armage out there, Boo.

Posted by: NY-Brian at April 28, 2005 03:47 PM

Posted by: infield at April 28, 2005 03:50 PM

On the whole, wouldn't it be cheaper to send "Corky" to the Saints, and pay them to wear Twins uniforms and play in the Dome when we're away?

Posted by: Katharriet at April 28, 2005 03:51 PM

RF,

Condolences. Such a promising baseball town, too. Chin up, it'll all come around in a few years.

Posted by: kafumbly at April 28, 2005 03:54 PM

That would be a neat idea! But wouldn't that lead to more St. Paul griping about Minneapolis taking away its toys or something like that?

MK

Posted by: mk at April 28, 2005 03:55 PM

I think I could probably do a better job than Corky. I was a fantastic whiffle ball catcher in high school gym class! Not much of a hitter, but at least I could catch!

Dear John Gordon,
I have no idea what just happened. It sounded like there were four games going on and you were a child in need of Ritalin commenting on all of them, plus the shiny thing you noticed in the corner.
Then you "re-explained", and I still am quite unclear of what transpired. Perhaps you could tone down the screaming and concentrate more on describing what is happening.

Thank you

Posted by: double-a at April 28, 2005 04:04 PM

Lyle, why are you so angry?

alskntwnsfn,
What happened, according to the radio, is this: long fly to Lew, who made an incredible, deep catch and threw and incredible, deep throw to Juan Castro, to try and get Berroa out at third. Unfortunately, Castro had a fielding error, and Berroa broke for home. the Nathanest got the ball and threw it home but not in time.
