In the eighth inning of today's game, the Minnesota Twins had the bases loaded. This is not unusual in itself, the Twins load the bases all the freakin' time. And then someone grounds into a double play and everyone goes to sit down and Batgirl loses a few years off her life and then we go to do it again the next inning. But not tonight. No, tonight, with the bases loaded and one out, Shannon Stewart strode up to bat and he was not thinking of the Pope this time. For he drove the second pitch through the infield for a hit—a palpable hit—scoring Lew Ford to give the Twins the go ahead run, and making himself the Boyfriend of the Day.
Readers/Field 5 (2 Ford, 1 each Hunter, Tiffee, Santana.), Sooz/ Stewie 2, Batgirl/Joe 1, Goober/Dr. Morneau 1.

*Biohazard Bob going through his elaborate gloves-on cleaning ritual, pulling items out of his big, white "Biohazard Bucket" (its real name) after a fan a few rows down and over returned his dollar-a-dog dogs from tummy to floor. Bob (his real name) got a nice round of applause for his clean-up work. He appears in midseason form and ready for an Anthrax scare, or an Anthrax concert, whichever comes first.
*El Presidente giving up four runs in a flash, but all can be forgiven on the night when his second child was born -- 58 minutes before the first pitch.
*A Twin not sucking with the bases loaded -- a recent suck phenomenon whose time will surely pass. It was their first bases-loaded hit of the Pope (Eggs) Benedict XVI era, blessed be he.
A game against the Royals with El Presidente pitching shouldn't be a nerve-wracking one-run exercise. But a win's a win's a win. I wonder if drawing 24,000 fans for a midweek game had something to do with it not being on TV. Don't get any ideas, folks!

And my boyfriend didn't start tonight, which was actually a relief, knowing his recent penchant for breaking my heart. A break is good, but one night was a long time. (I'm hoping the rest causes him to come back in high form today!)
