B.O.D.

This is a hard one, I mean, Mr. Jones had one fine baseball game. What with being so damn awesome and all. But all his runs were just gravy—very delicious gravy mind you, but gravy nonetheless, and it can hardly be said that none of the boyfriends contributed to the win. There's Stewie, who came up with the bases loaded and no outs in the fifth inning. He hit a grounder that could easily have been a double play but he beat it out, getting our first RBI and setting the table for the massive number of runs we'd score that inning. And then Dr. Morneau, I mean every time he comes up you just want to make sure he doesn't pass out. But he didn't pass out; he got a single and an actual RBI and didn't even break anything rounding the bases or vomit or anything. But Batgirl, well, Batgirl's going to give this one to her boyfriend, Chairman Mauer, who executed a simply perfect hit and run to score the third run of the game, then came around to score the go ahead run. And he's caught two days in a row and his knee's not even bleeding. That, Joe Mauer, makes you the Boyfriend of the Day

Batgirl/Chairman Mauer 1, Sooz/Stewie 0, Goober/Dr. Morneau 0.

whoa, bat-girl. i think the BODSHC is ruling a little irrationally here. if i was goober, i'd be throwing a hissy fit.

I think if I were choosing the BOD, I would choose Lewwwwwwwwwwwwwww. He started the hit parade in that beautiful inning, and actually got to bat twice that inning. :D

Nice game Joe, and you're right, it's good that his knee hasn't bled yet. Though, JJ had a heck of a night.

Posted by: Sam at April 6, 2005 12:33 AM

Good Job, Joe!

What a great boyfriend. I have no choice but to wear my Joe Mauer is my boyfriend shirt tomorrow.

I'm a Lewite myself, but I'm afraid I don't think his 1-for-4 performance quite qualifies him today. I'd vote for the good Doctor.

I am REALLY REALLY hoping that my "Johan Santana is my boyfriend" shirt will arrive in time for me to wear it to the game on Sunday... I'm making the call right now that there won't be an assular 1st inning!

The hit & run was indeed a perfect work of art, suitable for framing, and emblematic of the ideal of "Twins Baseball." You definitely gotta give it up for that. Plus it was a big moment because Hargrove thought he was clever by bringing in the lefty to wipe out Mauer/Morneau and the Twins' whole rally, and the Chairman simply replied, "Oh, so you want to play with textbook baseball strategy, do you? Take THAT." And so the baseball gods smiled upon our Twins, which is why Morneau's excuse-me flare landed just in front of the LF and then runs fell down like gifts from heaven. Do we think that Jacque Jones could crush a lefty like that without divine intervention? Nay.

The motion carries. Hail to the Chairman!

I think I have to disagree though. He did have a good game, but not as good as some others...

1-4 with 3 strikeouts?? I love you Joe, but please don't K so much the rest of the year.

I was wearing my Luis Rivas boyfriend shirt the other day at the office. This super smarty-pants manager they just hired to save the day looks at it and makes some unintelligble comment. I still can't remember his exact words, but the gist was that he thought L.R. was some sort of cheap tequila a la Jose Cuervo...

Seriously, I had to go have a sit down with the CEO to reevaulate this guy's credentials.

Still no boyfriend for Jeb, huh? Perhaps young Bartlett would benefit from Jeb's sponsorship...

Posted by: infield at April 6, 2005 08:29 AM

Luis Rivas...meh. If he can play the rest of the season like he did last night, maybe I can finally end the 6 year loathing I have had for him.

Posted by: ValhallaDeath at April 6, 2005 08:30 AM

ValhallaDeath - Love him or hate him, at least you KNOW who Luis is!

I'm all about respecting others' opinions, but there is no excuse for ignorance!! :)

And yeah, if he plays all like this all season, MRS. Rivas better watch out.

Posted by: Say Rah! at April 6, 2005 08:46 AM

While my heart says Dr. Morneau should be BOD, he did make that horrible throw in the dirt to Bartlett, and I think he should be smart enough not to use the ass-bat.

The Chairman should get BOD for last night. Anytime he doesn't injure the "SRK" he should be BOD.

Infield, I think Bartlett already is Jeb's new boyfriend, Jeb just doesn't know it yet. There was definitely some chemistry happening there at the Bulldog. I'm sure I'm not the only one who noticed.

Joey whiffed three times. JJ's homer broke their backs.

Posted by: NoRespectForJJ at April 6, 2005 09:24 AM

Dear Mr. Respect,

Batgirl loves JJ so much, and he was certainly player of the game, but precedence does go to Team Batgirl's boyfriends. Besides, Batgirl finds good fundamental baseball totally hot.

Helpfully,
BG

I just got my "Kent Hrbek is my boyfriend" shirt today. I will wear it proudly under my jersey on Friday.

As always, your the best Batgirl!

With love,
Your little Batling, HooliganKat

JEB,

Please, please. Pick me!

Morneau may not have broken anything rounding the bases, but he damn near did. When he got thrown out at third, he partially twisted an ankle as he awkwardly executed a slide.

Could have been ugly...

Thanks, everyone, for being concerned about me. It was really hard losing Corey; I know it was hard on Justin, too.
I feel like I can't live in the past forever, either.
All I know is, the way to get your picture plastered all over my notebook and prominently displayed in my locker is through defense. (It helps to fashion all of your furniture by hand out of wood, but there I go living in the past again.)
...On the other hand, running like a cartoon character and obviously making little race-car noises when you really turn on the speed helps, too...

Posted by: Jeb at April 6, 2005 12:14 PM

Well, OK, Joe as BOD.

But both of my bf's -- Mr. Jones and Mr. Rivas -- were stunning, and (in my filthy little mind) both were rewarded, post-game.

Posted by: qjw at April 6, 2005 12:25 PM

Oh, Sean, I noticed that too! But even though I winced every time they showed the replay, he still got up and walked away, so I guess he was OK. I 'm particularly sensitive having managed to turn my own ankle descending the stairs at the Holiday Inn Express-Bonita Springs. Ah, the elasticity of youth.

I agree 100% with your selection as well as Dick's statement that a properly executed hit and run is the most exciting play to watch in baseball. That was a thing a beauty and definitely a testament to the faith that Gardy has in the Chairman.
