Game Thread: Seattle v. Twins.

Yes, Batgirl totally forgot to put up a game thread yesterday. Yes, she is sorry. Yes, she'll probably forget again. But not tonight, my friends--no, no, not tonight!

Hey how bout them Twins' As Ron said There goes the perfect season. But here comes Johan

Posted by: Tbone at April 5, 2005 07:02 PM

I, for one, am excited. sure, our infield is inexperienced. but other than that, we're GOLD. Im out here in Rhode Island (its annoying how much attention Damon's hair is getting), smack dab in the middle of Red Sox nation, and they are all worried about us. Sure, they fret about the Yankees, but they respect us more.

Posted by: jaydoubleyou at April 5, 2005 07:51 PM

Oh happy day! Game thread.

Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 5, 2005 08:00 PM

I shall be posting game threads for every single game, as long as I remember.

Sincerely,
Batgirl

Posted by: Batgirl at April 5, 2005 08:07 PM

So, the reason we lost yesterday was because there was no game thread.

Am I right?

Posted by: Eric at April 5, 2005 08:19 PM

Batgirl accepts full responsibility.

Posted by: Batgirl at April 5, 2005 08:27 PM

Does anybody know of any place on the internet that i can listen to the game for free? Does WCCO stream its radio? i know that MLB.tv has it, but as a poor college student i can't afford the 14.95.

Posted by: jaydoubleyou at April 5, 2005 09:03 PM

I bought a new Twins cap today so that should turn things around for us.

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 5, 2005 09:07 PM

Bert with a bad stat - Twins are 38-69 against the Ms

Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 5, 2005 09:13 PM

jaydoubleyou ... I have no clue. But if you live in the upper midwest, there should be a local radio station that carries the Twins. They are on something like 40 stations

Posted by: James at April 5, 2005 09:15 PM

jaydoubleyou:

I don't think WCCO streams any programs, but even if it does, it cannot broadcast the games on the internet through its site (legalities and copyright and such). Only can hear in via mlb.com audio on the internet...sorry.

Posted by: pollyannah at April 5, 2005 09:18 PM

I love it, first pitch strike for Johan! :)

Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 5, 2005 09:20 PM

Here is the page on the Twins Homepage that has all of the Twins Radio Affiliates in MN, SD, ND and Iowa.

http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/min/schedule/radio_affiliates.jsp

Hope you find one near you!

Posted by: LunchBox at April 5, 2005 09:20 PM

oh well, thanks guys. I guess i'll just use ESPN.com's GameCast.

Posted by: jaydoubleyou at April 5, 2005 09:21 PM

We should've beaned him.

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 5, 2005 09:28 PM

oh oh. this is not good

Posted by: James at April 5, 2005 09:28 PM

actually, in case any of you were wondering, mlb.com has a much better way to 'see' whats going on with there GameDay 2005 thingamajigg. It seems to load faster, and has more information then the ESPN GameCast. I like how it has the location of the individual pitches.

im also glad that sexton didn't hit another homer

Posted by: Mark at April 5, 2005 09:35 PM

For only $15 can't you get the broadcasts of all mlb games over the internet? Another option is XM radio. Its $13 per month after you by the radio hardware (@$100). It can be used in the house, car or as a walkman. All mlb games are on all year long!

Posted by: twinsfansam at April 5, 2005 09:36 PM

I would have sent him my mlb.tv password (free for yesterday and today when I signed up for some contest) but this game isn't on their TV schedule.

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 5, 2005 09:37 PM

WTG Cuddyer!

Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 5, 2005 09:37 PM

I use the MLB total package. 100 bucks a season and you get live radio, TV streams, and even condensed games. Only problem is there is blackout restrictions if you live in your teams broadcast area.

Posted by: Mark at April 5, 2005 09:37 PM

Silly question:

Is Safeco field located near a railroad line? Or is the train whistle part of the "game sounds package"

Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 5, 2005 09:39 PM

there is a railroad that runs behind the outfield wall

Posted by: James at April 5, 2005 09:40 PM

How does the MLB.tv work? do you need a high speed connection? do you like it?

Posted by: jaydoubleyou at April 5, 2005 09:40 PM

James:

Thanks, I kept hearing it yesterday too, it seemed to come up at times when they "might" play sound clips so I was not sure.

Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 5, 2005 09:41 PM

Yes. The train pass along the center and right field wall. The retactable roof extends out, when open, over the tracks.

Posted by: twinsfansam at April 5, 2005 09:42 PM

It's a real train. (says a lurking Seattle fan)

Posted by: Susan at April 5, 2005 09:43 PM

Yeah, you need a high speed connection. It's essentially streaming TV to your PC. I only used it for free for the Twins Red Sox spring training game but I liked it a lot then. I wouldn't pay for it, though, with the games on TV and/or the radio. Maybe if I had a job where I traveled a lot or was out of the Twins broadcast area. It's pretty slick.

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 5, 2005 09:43 PM

Jay,

MLB package is great! Basically the broadcasts are streamed from the local broadcaster. The Twins are being broadcast over a Fox Sports affiliate now, and the Yankees are on their "Yes!" station. But, it works best with a high speed connection (I have DSL - TV stream does not work well with dialup).

If you want just audio, you acn choose what team's radio broadcast you listen to also.

Posted by: Mark at April 5, 2005 09:45 PM

I hate listening to Seattle games (I have to listen to the radio due to work related reasons) becasue of those trains. I live by the train track, and they, the trains, are always blowing their whistles at all hours of the day.

grrr

Posted by: James at April 5, 2005 09:49 PM

1-2-3 inning horray!

ok Twins.. let get 1 or 2 runs this inning!

Posted by: James at April 5, 2005 09:50 PM

Much better - not so EKE-Y

Posted by: wonder woman at April 5, 2005 09:52 PM

James:

Trains 24/7 with whistles would be very annoying...

Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 5, 2005 09:52 PM

Dear Batlings,

If anyone ever comes into these things just to taunt/be obnoxious, e-mail me and let me know, okay?

Love,

Posted by: Batgirl at April 5, 2005 09:55 PM

c'mon.... get those guys home!

Posted by: jaydoubleyou at April 5, 2005 10:02 PM

darn it. darn it all to heck.

Posted by: jaydoubleyou at April 5, 2005 10:06 PM

I am TOTALLY sensing another dramatic comeback like last season's home opener.

Posted by: Stacy at April 5, 2005 10:09 PM

I don't understand Gardy's strategy of falling behind quickly by 3 or 4 runs and then not scoring any. But I'm not a baseball manager.

Posted by: Kurtis at April 5, 2005 10:10 PM

'Dear Batlings,

aye aye Capt'n Batgirl!

----

Johan seems to has settled down now. Woo

Posted by: James at April 5, 2005 10:10 PM

J.W.--the best gamecast is mlb.com. Or you can pony up $15 for the internet stream of the game broadcast. The radio broadcast is copyrighted, so you would have to pay for that too. Should work fine at Providence--it works fine here at Gtown. Trust me, it's worth it (or you can be cheap and wait until you get home in May, which is what I did last year).

-your loving brother,
TBird41

Posted by: TBird41 at April 5, 2005 10:18 PM

Who won a free lawn mower for that inning? Was it me? Oh, I hope it's me.

S. Thrilla

Posted by: Serial Thrilla at April 5, 2005 10:18 PM

Lurking M's fan here. Love the site Batgirl!

There's been a lot of changes here in Seattle this off-season so it's nice to see us play well. Meche has been everywhere from brilliant to dreadful for us in his time so I'm hoping he can keep it up.

Seems like Santana has settled down and is starting to deal. That was a lovely pitch sequence to Boone for the K, not one fastball.

Good luck this season..............just not yet! :)

Posted by: Stu at April 5, 2005 10:18 PM

yeah, i think i'm just gonna wait until i get home. thats seems to be the best (and cheapest) way.

Posted by: jaydoubleyou at April 5, 2005 10:22 PM

The bats are starting to really get on my nerves this year.

Moyer led the AL in HR's given up last year, and we get one run off him. Now we are making Meche look Cy-worthy.

Rrrrr... sorry about my ranting.

Posted by: Eric at April 5, 2005 10:34 PM

SCORE!!!!

Posted by: jaydoubleyou at April 5, 2005 10:37 PM

horray! 4-2!

Posted by: James at April 5, 2005 10:38 PM

Atta kid! Nice little rip, JB.

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 5, 2005 10:38 PM

Referring to my last post, it was an experiment to see if we would rally and get some runs.

No, really... it was.

;)

Posted by: Eric at April 5, 2005 10:40 PM

thats right. change the pitcher. we know you're getting scared.

Posted by: jaydoubleyou at April 5, 2005 10:41 PM

Posted by: mas at April 5, 2005 10:42 PM

4-3!!!!!

Posted by: James at April 5, 2005 10:43 PM

WOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Posted by: jaydoubleyou at April 5, 2005 10:45 PM

We're gonna win Twins, we're gonna score!
We're gonna win Twins, watch that baseball... dribble through the hole on the left side!

Posted by: whelliston at April 5, 2005 10:47 PM

Whatever it takes, Doc, whatever it takes.

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 5, 2005 10:47 PM

the thing i like about ESPN gamecast is how the box score always updates quickly--ie, with people on base, when the ball is put in play, you can know immediately if runs were scored, even if the play-by-play takes 5 minutes to tell you

however, since i opened MLB's gamecast, 5 of the last 6 twins have poked hits. i think i'll stick with theirs

Posted by: ndthsmdy at April 5, 2005 10:47 PM

make that 6 of 7..

Posted by: ndthsmdy at April 5, 2005 10:48 PM

WOOOOOOOO! JACQUE JONES!

listen to the boo birds at Safeco. hahaa

Posted by: James at April 5, 2005 10:50 PM

Sweet sassy molassey, he got all of that one! There's that run support we've been waiting for.

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 5, 2005 10:50 PM

I meant, "soar"

wow

Posted by: whelliston at April 5, 2005 10:51 PM

THAT's HOW YOU DO IT! THAT'S HOW YOU SCORE 7 RUNS in the FIFTH!

yay!

Posted by: Haplo at April 5, 2005 10:51 PM

JJ is my backup BOD

Posted by: mas at April 5, 2005 10:52 PM

I can hear Radke mumbling in the dugout. "7 runs for Santana? Very funny guys. Very freaking funny."

Posted by: Will at April 5, 2005 10:52 PM

I was thinking along the same lines, Will. Something like "Is it my deodorant or ... what?"

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 5, 2005 10:53 PM

THIS is what i've been waiting for: the bats to come alive! get out of the way, old man meche. the young and powerful are coming

Posted by: jaydoubleyou at April 5, 2005 10:53 PM

Yay! The Twins are good after all!

Posted by: Kurtis at April 5, 2005 10:54 PM

Will, I was thinking something like that also.

Posted by: mas at April 5, 2005 10:55 PM

JJ is the man!

Posted by: Sam at April 5, 2005 10:57 PM

Does anyone ever get into these just to nitpick and be obnoxious?

Posted by: al at April 5, 2005 10:58 PM

Al

Once in awhile you get a troll, BG has it handled.

Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 5, 2005 11:12 PM

go twins!

Posted by: jaydoubleyou at April 5, 2005 11:12 PM

6K for Johan- impressive, considering its still early in the season. I can't wait until after he gets warmed up.

Posted by: jaydoubleyou at April 5, 2005 11:15 PM

I can't watch - JC has been brought in....Tell me when he is done!

Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 5, 2005 11:15 PM

Romero puts out the fire

Posted by: James at April 5, 2005 11:19 PM

Whew!

Sometimes with JC it is an adventure!

Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 5, 2005 11:20 PM

Ok Justin, it is now time to break the HR drought...dang, just a single.

Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 5, 2005 11:24 PM

all right! 8-4! Jacque is hot tonight

Posted by: James at April 5, 2005 11:28 PM

Come on guys, can JC ever catch a break?

I mean, the guy gets crucified, goes to hell, rises again... and you guys give him heck for making the inning an adventure.

Posted by: Eric at April 5, 2005 11:29 PM

OH MY GOD! Corey Koskie is Morneau's father!!

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 5, 2005 11:31 PM

I totally thought so too! I was SO weirded out, but then... it kind of makes sense, really.... :)

Posted by: Neal at April 5, 2005 11:33 PM

Eric,

Which JC are you referring to, the LHP for the Twins or the subject of the Gospels of Matthew Mark Luke and John?

I was referring to the LHP. :D

Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 5, 2005 11:34 PM

I am TOTALLY sensing another dramatic comeback like last season's home opener.

Posted by: Stacy at April 5, 2005 10:09 PM

HA! I called it! lol.

Justin did not get his looks from his father.

Posted by: Stacy at April 5, 2005 11:35 PM

Great play by JC. The throw he made despite the ways his body was moving was incredible.

Posted by: Will at April 5, 2005 11:36 PM

Nice call, Stacy.

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 5, 2005 11:36 PM

Was it just me or did Rincon look like he was trying to work something out in his elbow when they showed him in the bullpen just now?

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 5, 2005 11:38 PM

Thanks, mmmarkiep. *bows*

Posted by: Stacy at April 5, 2005 11:39 PM

mmmarkiep

No, it was not just you. Hope Boo is alright!

Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 5, 2005 11:40 PM

mmmarkiep

No, it was not just you. Hope Boo is alright!

Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 5, 2005 11:40 PM

The philosopy behind letting the other team get up by 3or4, and then doing nothing offensively is to make them think you suck, and that you could never possibly score 7 runs in the 5th inning, and take the lead. Some time, it works; usually not.Al

Posted by: al at April 5, 2005 11:41 PM

Sorry folks for the double post, somehow got an error when posting, so it posted twice...

Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 5, 2005 11:41 PM

Al ... you crack me up.

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 5, 2005 11:42 PM

talldrink:

Wait, there are two?

Posted by: Eric at April 5, 2005 11:43 PM

Do we really need strip club ads during Twins games?

Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 5, 2005 11:46 PM

Yes.

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 5, 2005 11:47 PM

mmmarkiep,

Why?

Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 5, 2005 11:49 PM

3-6-3 WTG Morneau and Bartlett

Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 5, 2005 11:52 PM

are we sure it is Pootz and not Putz like it is spelled?

Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 5, 2005 11:55 PM

J.J. Putz for the M's? I'm glad I wasn't him growing up...

MK

Posted by: mk at April 5, 2005 11:55 PM

Because Fox needs the advertising dollars to keep televising the games, of course. ;-)

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 5, 2005 11:55 PM

Help! I've tried to pick a boyfriend, but each time I think I've settled on one, someone else does something that makes my heart go pitty pat. I'm not sure I'll even be able to manage serial monogamy. I'm worried I'll have to resign myself to being a floozy!

Posted by: twink at April 5, 2005 11:56 PM

Its Putz

like Putz it on the Ritz

--

for those listening on the radio, do you notice the spotter or producer in the background telling Gordo and Gladden who is in the pen, and when to speak after the commerical break.

hmmmm

Posted by: James at April 5, 2005 11:56 PM

Isn't FSN owned by the same "moral" people who bring us Fox News Channel....you would think the morality would transfer into who they take as ad clients.

Ok sarcasm is off now.

Posted by: jaydoubleyou at April 6, 2005 12:05 AM

our first win of the season!

Posted by: jaydoubleyou at April 6, 2005 12:12 AM

Looking back at the box score, the top of the 5th looked something like what I've always thought of volcanic eruptions in Hawai'i. You get the big, splashy blast, but by the time it happens your house has already been flattened by the lava that's been bubbling out for hours...

MK

Posted by: mk at April 6, 2005 12:13 AM

Dear Mr. Doubleyou,

We had Santana/Nathan '04 shirts last year. If I still have the art, I'll make one for you. Give me a couple days!

RD wishes ro point out that JJ Putz does not have it as bad as a man who was the icon of baseball in St. Cloud and for whom the city-owned baseball stadium in town is named. That's "Dick Putz Field."

Posted by: RonDavis at April 6, 2005 12:56 AM

You never know. Maybe his name is Jimmie Johnson Putz. Hoo boy.
