Welcome to the 2005 season my friends. Batgirl is open for business. To kick off the year in style, Team Batgirl is extremely proud to present its very first musical, starring your Minnesota Twins--with music, lyrics, and animation by Team Batgirl.

Is there no limit to the Ursu genius? I'd also like the words, like written down?Al

It wouldn't let me download it. =( I kept getting this error that said: "Internet Explorer was not able to open this internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later." Does anyone have any idea how I can open this work of art? (I read the lyrics, and LOVED them.) Thanks!!

Posted by: Twinsfan at April 3, 2005 08:38 PM

Dearest Mr./Ms Fan,

Please make sure you are right-clicking on the link, as opposed to just a regular mouse click. (Or if you have a Mac, hold down Control then click with your mouse.) A screen should pop up right next to your cursor that offers you several options. Scroll to either "Save target as" (PC) or "Download link as" (Mac).

Sincerely,
BG

p.s. the lyrics are now linked to in the entry. Batgirl apologizes for the delay.

Posted by: Batgirl at April 3, 2005 08:50 PM

Absolutely wonderful. I put up a link from the Hardball Times. What a great way to start the season!

Posted by: studes at April 3, 2005 08:54 PM

That was just genius!

Posted by: Sam at April 3, 2005 08:59 PM

I got at least twice as much joy out of 4 1/2 minutes of "Oh Five!" than from two hours of "Mamma Mia."

Well done, Team B!

Posted by: whelliston at April 3, 2005 09:02 PM

Nice. . . Nice . . .Nice. Happy Baseball!

Posted by: Mac at April 3, 2005 09:21 PM

Tomorrow is the Judgment Day!

Tomorrow we'll discover what our heaven has in store!

One more dawn...

One more day...

ONE DAY MORE!

Nice work, Team BG.

Very good production. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Posted by: talldrinkowater at April 3, 2005 10:03 PM

Oh... my.... god... that was one of the funniest things I've seen in a while. After Mauer made his debut I was in tears from chuckling so hard while trying not to appear insane to others around me.

My favorite line: "Donnnnde estaaaaaaa.... BLANCO!!!!!"

I'm still chuckling. Thank you.

Posted by: sacky at April 3, 2005 10:11 PM

Get those Oscar speeches ready Team Batgirl!!!

Bravo!!!!

Posted by: bubblemint at April 3, 2005 10:28 PM

Fantastic way to open the season. Kudos to the Bat-Girl and the entire production staff.

Posted by: pollyannah at April 3, 2005 11:13 PM

Wow. Just wow. A lengthy doff of the cap to everyone involved!

The season has barely started yet and already the bar for baseball humor on the internet has been set incredibly high! Amazing!

Posted by: Jay at April 3, 2005 11:17 PM

Newman seemed a little skinny.

Posted by: Craig in MN at April 3, 2005 11:20 PM

Best song ever written. Thanks, BG!

This time tomorrow, we'll be 1-0!!

Dear Ilk:

I love a good Les Miserables reference! You are officially a great person.

Sincerely,

Posted by: Meghan at April 4, 2005 01:38 AM

That was freaking hilarious!! Does Silva really miss Blanco that much?

Posted by: 10man at April 4, 2005 03:59 AM

I was looking forward to seeing this, but all I get is a screen of garbage when I hit "Download".

Posted by: kcboomer at April 4, 2005 08:32 AM

One of the finest Team Batgirl projects yet.
My compliments and gratitude to all involved.

To those who have had troubles downloading, keep trying....the effort is well worth it.

I'm playing hookey today. Will be listening to the 8-3-0 and then probably walking (such a nice day) to the Bulldog.

Posted by: double-a at April 4, 2005 08:40 AM

KC Boomer, you have to right click on the link and download the file, rather than simply clicking on it. That should fix it.

Posted by: Goober at April 4, 2005 08:47 AM

Any truth to the rumor that there's a hip-hop cover in the works?

Bravo!

Posted by: RonDavis at April 4, 2005 08:54 AM

KCBoomer,

Perhaps I can help. What operating system and browser are you using? Feel free to e-mail me and we'll get this all worked out.

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 4, 2005 09:18 AM

Wow. I don't know what else to say but wow. I watched the whole thing with my mouth hanging open. I have to watch it again because the first time I was marveling at all the details that would go into producing such a work. Wow. Team Batgirl is ... I can't think of a word to express my stunned awe and appreciation. Wow.

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 4, 2005 09:28 AM

Good thing I brought my flash drive to work today, so I can download using the high speed work connection instead of my home dial-up. Alas, I do not have speakers on my work computer so I will have to wait until I get home. But it will distract me from the fact that I have no cable and thus can not see Cardinals or Twins highlights until they play the Yankees or Mets.

Posted by: Redbird at April 4, 2005 10:53 AM

Thanks, Team Batgirl! I laughed so hard I sprayed coffee on my keyboard.

Posted by: (Homer)HankyPanky at April 4, 2005 10:53 AM

And of course my esteemed employer will not allow any kind of media player on its office computers (the next time I hear the word bandwidth I might strangle somebody).

I (a skinflint, too) have agonizingly slow dial-up at home. BUT! Thanks to BG's brilliant and generous marketing department, the DVD is cheap and will be a nice keepsake for veiwing at the World Series victory parties.

Thanks, BG.

That was miraculous. Nice work, Team Batgirl!

Posted by: Haplo at April 4, 2005 11:03 AM

Perhaps due to the fact that I am a YankeeFan, I was also unable to download it, even though I right-clicked and "save target as"ed several times.

Perhaps foreshadowing the postseason, the Twins have locked this YankeeFan out of the party.

Welcome to the 2005 season boys and girls -- it is shaping up to be one hell of a ride.

YankeeFan

Posted by: YankeeFan at April 4, 2005 11:08 AM

Yankeefan - Don't take it personally, I can't download it either despite repeated efforts. I'm getting a message that "A connection with the server could not be established". I'm guessing it's due to heavy traffic, I'll have to try later.

Posted by: Skorch at April 4, 2005 11:17 AM

YankeeFan and Skorch, do you, by any chance, have an e-mail account that can accept a 13.3 Mb (zipped) file? I can e-mail the file to you. Otherwise, e-mail me with your operating system and browser and we'll see if I can figure out either a) a work around or b) a solution.

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 4, 2005 11:35 AM

I have some spare bandwidth, and have posted a streaming Quicktime version (360x240px, 8.3 MB), click my name if you're having trouble downloading the original.

"Lew's Lament" is my favorite part.

http://www.wgx.com/etc/ohfive.mov

Posted by: whelliston at April 4, 2005 11:37 AM

If it's OK with bat-girl, I can provide a mirror to the file (i.e., put a copy on my own server) later today. I'll wait for her permission.

Posted by: Kurtis at April 4, 2005 11:54 AM

Okay, what's goin' on inside Lew's sleeping bag?

Posted by: Adam at April 4, 2005 12:05 PM

Surely Yankee Fan can, at the very least, download the MP3 to listen and follow along with the lyric sheets?

Posted by: Goober at April 4, 2005 12:31 PM

There doesn't appear to be any bandwidth issues with the server. If you're using the Firefox browser, you have to actually click on the link and then select to save it to disk.

If you can't download it from the link, try the MP3 and then, try using the link provided by whelliston. If those all fail, then my suspicion is that it's possible that the download of this file type is being blocked. There aren't too many business need justifications for this file type.

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 4, 2005 12:38 PM

One other thing you can try, YF and Skorch. Open QuickTime, select File, Open URL in New Player and then paste the following URL into the resulting box: http://www.bat-girl.com/media/ohfive.mp4

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 4, 2005 12:50 PM

Some people do appear to be having firewall issues.

Posted by: Goober at April 4, 2005 12:58 PM

Thanks for all of your (technical) support.

I have managed to download the file (I am guessing, too, that heavy traffic was the problem - Congrats BG and Co.). I am now upgrading Windows Media Player in an attempt to view the mp4 file (QuickTime didn't work, perhaps I will upgrade that next).

BG, et al:
You guys seem to be putting your long winters to incredibly creative use. What a fantabulous production. I am in awe of such brilliance. Enjoy the game.

Posted by: Art From Fort Myers at April 4, 2005 01:51 PM

Well, I've crapped out -- Windows Media Player wont play it and QuickTime wont play it. Sorry, BG, it will have to wait for a smarter man to play it. Luckily, the world is full of smarter men than me, so it shouldn't be long...

YankeeFan

Posted by: YankeeFan at April 4, 2005 01:55 PM

I couldn't get it to play in Windows Media Player (version 10) , either. Real Player (version 10) and Quick Time (version 6.5.something) both worked for me. To get the latest version of Quick Time, download it here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 4, 2005 02:04 PM

Of course, it IS available for a low, low price.

Posted by: Goober at April 4, 2005 02:05 PM

If you're talking about the Quick Time player, then c'mon, Goober, I wouldn't do that. There's a free player download.

If you mean the DVD, well... for the low, low price. Heck, at these prices, I expect to see "Crazy Bat Girl's Discount House of Mirth" commercials coming soon.

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 4, 2005 02:13 PM

The DVD provides high-res sound, too, so you can crank up the music on your system.
Trust me, I've tried.
Does anyone else love the rock guitar "Oh Five!" remix at the end of the movie?

Posted by: Jeb at April 4, 2005 02:16 PM

Will there be any DVDs available for purchase at the 'Dog this evening?

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 4, 2005 03:03 PM

We shall bring some. We are going...right now!

Posted by: Batgirl at April 4, 2005 03:22 PM

I'm leaving the house now, too.

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 4, 2005 03:31 PM

So excited. Can't breathe. I'm a Punto guy, so I'm a little nervous about my man JB, but I feel good about it. I am very excited about this team, my friends. Sehr aufgeregt.

Oh, and Rivas sucks.

Posted by: rach at April 4, 2005 05:17 PM

I liked it, too, Eric. Gotta get all you can out of those young legs - they won't be worth much in a season or two.

Posted by: Haplo at April 4, 2005 05:22 PM

BG,

Unfortunately my professor did not understand why I needed to leave class early today to listen to 'CCO radio. Anyway, my mom listened to it at work and said it was amazing. No surprise, it WAS BG afterall.

Hope y'all are having fun at the Bulldog and I wish I could be there,
Stacy

Awesome stuff Team Batgirl!!! You proved once again why you are the content queen.

PROBLEMS DOWNLOADING IT????

I had problems at first too BUT you can just download the codec/plug in/decoder at the site below. Install it... and it should work just fine.

Here's the website... http://www.3ivx.com/download/windows.html

Posted by: alskntwnsfn at April 4, 2005 06:57 PM

That was really something! When is "The Making of Oh Five!" going to come out? I'd like to see that! That was one hell of a project. Did you all just throw that together over the weekend? I had some problems with it too, but once I updated my Quicktime I was okay.

And in other news, sorry to see our guys weren't hitting tonight. Oh well, there's always tomorrow. And the next day! And the next day! Yay! It's really baseball season!

Posted by: Pepper at April 4, 2005 07:13 PM

Wow, it's Opening Day and Team Batgirl has already set the creativity bar mighty high.

From the looks of today's game, however, it seems that the boys spent too much time rehearsing their song in Fort Myers, and not enough time practicing their swings or refining a pitch that Richie Sexson can't clobber. I hope it bodes well for tomorrow that I didn't notice Johan showing up in this musical production.

Posted by: frightwig at April 4, 2005 07:59 PM

Clap Clap Clap Clap!!

Wow.

Posted by: Jacesen at April 4, 2005 08:52 PM

It was great seeing such a huge turnout at the Bulldog tonight, however somebody left behind a white plastic bag with three books and a folded up newspaper inside it near the tables that Batgirl was sitting at. If it's yours e-mail me with what the books are for identification purposes and we can arrange a handoff.

Posted by: Skorch at April 4, 2005 09:50 PM

If they're rare first editions, they're mine.

Posted by: mmmarkiep at April 4, 2005 09:52 PM

No better way to end a work day then listening to the ALWebber-ish guitar ending of 'Oh Five'. If only Willa Cather's work was this blissed out. With luck, I will make it to Safeco tomorrow to check out what I am now considering the real season opener. They give mulligans in baseball, right?

Posted by: yakul at April 4, 2005 11:49 PM

Weird -- but brilliant! Bravo, Batgirl!

Dearest Batgirl & Co.~

I wish I could say I was able to watch the much talked about "Oh Five!" but, alas I could not. However, I did read the lyrics and listen to the awe-inspiring song and it was instantly decided that I must purchase the DVD. And so it is done. I am eagerly awaiting its arrival!

Also, I just wanted to say how much I enjoy this site.... I just happened to have found it the other day and going through the archives and reliving the "Lego Vision" was wonderful. Thank you for the time and effort you have put in here.

I hope no one minds if I happen to pop in from time to time.

Write? What's that?

Posted by: Jeb at April 5, 2005 08:54 PM

Batgirl. What can I say. I hopped over here from espn.com's Page 2 Baseball Power Rankings. I must say, as someone who has lived in North Dakota (poor me) for ten years and is from Southern California (Go Bums!), I grew tired of the Twins on television. I hate Fox Sports Net! In any case, after your spectacular musical "Oh Five!", I will "Root! Root! Root for the Home Team!" for as long as they stay out of Chavez Ravine (or Blue stays out of the Cities), and here's to hoping for a great season under the 'Dome!

Posted by: wizopez at April 21, 2005 12:36 PM

BATGIRL, you're my HERO:)OH FIVE, just short of amazing, I think Santana should've had a line or two, but the Silva part "Donde Esta Blanco" hilarity ensued--Congrats!
