The Twins met the Phillies today and, Art from Fort Myers was there with his magic camera, and, ah, well, here's Radke's line for the day:

There was a lot of this:

And then this happened:

In fact, this guy was just kind of a pain in our collective @$$ all day.

But Bartlett got to show off a little glove work..

...Throwing out one Mr. Jose Offerman at the plate.

And Mr. Mauer DHed, and he brought his KNEE with him.

And Shannon Stewart continues to hit up the place...

...we can score, too, Jimmy Rollins. (Just not as many as you...)

Well, if he needs to get the Bad out of his system to get to the Rad, he might as well do it now while the games don't mean much.
Also, let me say that I dig the scoreboard. It straddles the line between old-time major league and rec area cheese and utility, only with more beer on the board instead of the dugout.
Of course the good vibe doesn't extend to the actual *score*, but hey, who's perfect?
Posted by: mk at March 10, 2005 09:50 PMThat's it...Art, you need to be a professional photographer. Seriously. I love your pics!
Posted by: Stacy at March 10, 2005 10:21 PMIs that blood running down Mauer's left knee? What a trooper!
Oops, false alarm. It's just dirt.
Posted by: Skorch at March 10, 2005 10:23 PMAdding my "thank you!" to the Artist known as Art. Great pics AGAIN!
Posted by: Just Beth at March 10, 2005 11:21 PMMaybe it's just me, or the fact that it's 3 in the morning, and I'm a bit loopy, but that picture of the Chairman seems to look a lot like one Mr. Teddy Ballgame, as far as the swing goes. Maybe I'm just nuts though. Or, maybe I'm just hoping for a wee bit too much from our young Mr. Mauer.

Sorry about the outlandishly long link... I'm not sure how to otherwise post it. Appears my knowledge of how to make this darned computer thingy work is limited.

You can use tinyURL at http://tinyurl.com to shorten links. I have shortened your link to http://tinyurl.com/5xhg5
Good find, BTW. Mauer's swing is similar to Teddy Baseball's!
Hope that helps!

Win Twins!
Posted by: talldrinkowater at March 11, 2005 06:17 AMJust saw one of the latest Twins promos on ESPN. It is of a guy with a Joe Mauer bobblehead, and the only room left on his mantle is taken up by an urn. The urn goes in a drawer and Mauer goes up, with the comment, "Sorry Uncle ___. You were a Yankee fan anyway!"
I laughed so hard!

Posted by: talldrinkowater at March 11, 2005 06:20 AMArt - Thank you for sharing the fantastic pictures! They make you want to be down there very, very badly and also look forward to April 8th all the more.
And SadGoatBoy - I don't know where you got that moniker (and I'm not going to ask) but it's a keeper and, yes, Mauer's swing does bear a resemblance to Williams'.
Posted by: BadAndy48 at March 11, 2005 07:01 AMHey, SadGoatBoy (that is interesting...), here's the short version of the link you posted. Everything else is Google-gorp. It let's Google track what links people use from their search results, I'm thinking.

Interesting that Joe says his swing feels a little slow. (I thought his little swing groover gizmo is supposed to make you ultra fast. Maybe he can't get enough knee action in it.

"I felt a little slow," Mauer said. "But it's still pretty early in spring. We've got a couple of more weeks before we have to get it right. I'll try to get as many at-bats as I can."
I'd say that the difference in the two images is attitude: Joe is thinking "Man, I spanked that baby." Ted seems to be thinking "Hmmm, I meant to hit that with a little off skew spin to the left, but it appears to be a little more over the top. By my calculations the right fielder should miss it by 94.5 centimeters, stumble slightly, recover, but not in time to catch me sliding stylishly into 3rd."
If Durbin is "Real Deal," is Radke "Fair Deal?"

"This is where I wanted to be," he said simply. "I was just looking for a fair deal."

I love the new Twins commercials, I like the one where Newman is waving the guy around to the elevator. I hope they have other good ones up their sleeves.
Posted by: HooliganKat at March 11, 2005 10:32 AMI was driving to work today and noticed that they have the "Twins" banners up on the poles along Fifth by the Dome. So even though it's snowing like crazy right now I know it's really spring. Kind of like seeing the first robin.

Posted by: Word Smith at March 11, 2005 01:10 PMHere's a little item from Jayson Stark's column on ESPN.COM:
One of the big questions about the Twins was supposed to be the left side of their infield. But so far, rookie shortstop Jason Bartlett has played great. And Michael Cuddyer has been so shockingly good at third base, one scout said: "He's looked like Brooks Robinson so far."
