Well, Duh

ESPN.com's Hot Stove Heaters continues, with Torii Sweetcheeks Hunter as Best Wallbanger.

The box office success of Spiderman and Spiderman 2 undoubtedly has the producers thinking about yet another sequel. Should Tobey Maguire be unavailable for the third installment in the franchise, they could do a lot worse than cast Torii Hunter in the lead role.

Hunter, after all, could do his own stunts. He could leap walls and scale fences. He could display startling athleticism and do things few others could.

In other words, he could do all the things that he already does as the center fielder for the Minnesota Twins.

Oh, someone must have a comment!

I guess we have all come to take for granted our superstar home-run stealer that we aren't surprised if others take notice. We're so used to seeing his human-highlight-reel performances that we forget how very good he really is.

But, yay for Torii. He's a stud in two categories.

As has been previously said, it's about time our boys are getting some national recognition.

Yours,

Ok, I know I don’t call Hunter Spiderman at all….do other Twins fans? Or is this something the media cooked up and has been calling him. I don’t even think Dick and Bert use it…do they?

I don’t know, most acrobatic outfielder sounds like he is ready to join gymnastics or the circus.

Well at Twins Fest - Torii said he rather be Superman - but Spiderman would do- he was laughing as he said that - and he's not sure why they started calling him Spiderman - I think Torii would look pretty good in the Spiderman outfit

Wonder Woman,

Would Hunter make it onto your All Cute Team if he had the Spiderman outfit on?

I think Superman is better fitting, he does fly to some of those balls that very few others would get to. Or maybe others wouldnt have to fly?

I think the article had it down right. I'm so used to seeing plays like that--and remember Kirby Pucket making plays like that--that it's 'business as usual' for me. And then an honor like this comes along and makes me say, "Oh yeah, this is special. We are very lucky."

(I never take Torii or his skills for granted--I always love him, and his plays always amaze me. I forget that Torii's the only one making these regularly!)

I kind of go for the way he futilely hacks at low outside piches in the dirt, time after time, year after year. Could spidey do that? Oh yeah, I guess he could. I don't feel he is ready for the hof just yet. Al

I think the "Spiderman" label is media laziness. It gets hung on talented outfielders who use the wall. Remember the famous Griffey "Spiderman" catch?

So perhaps Batgirl and the batlings could help the more unimaginative members of the mainstream media by suggesting alternate nicknames for centerfielders that also imply athleticism and an ability to climb walls.

Might I propose "Tree Frog"?

Don't know if anyone is still reading this far back, but if BG finds it important, she will move it around. An article about what appears to be Torii Hunter from the good people at Harvard:
