Apparently there's some sort of important football game today, Batgirl doesn't really know anything about it except that they sometimes run commercials about cat herding and you're totally not supposed to expose your boobies during the halftime show. All she knows for sure is when it's over we can all start talking about baseball again.
Oh, and one more thing:
Go Eagles!
Posted by Batgirl at February 5, 2005 06:15 PMI also say..GO EAGLES..I always root the apparent Underdog...And i know as soon as that game is said and done...Baseball talk will soon resume!!!
Posted by: Bojangles Crain at February 5, 2005 08:21 PMI havent decided who I'm cheering for yet. I like the Pats, but I think the Eagles deserve it. Hmmm?
And yes... 14 days until pitchers and catchers report. Days... are... slowing... changing...
Posted by: Sam at February 5, 2005 09:26 PMI happen to be a football/hockey/basketball fan (in the season that is NOT baseball). But for those ladies out there who aren't so much football fans, you could always just choose the cutest QB. Brady or McNabb...hmmm...both are sporting dirty looking beards right now...tough call!
Posted by: ForMorneau at February 5, 2005 09:32 PMI'm a wee bit partial to Gretchan Wilson myself. She's behind the 8 ball.
Posted by: insider at February 5, 2005 09:53 PMAs my Philly-area kin would say, Go, Iggles!
I am cheering for the Pats today, while enjoing some sloppy nachos and good company
Posted by: James at February 6, 2005 05:38 AMGo Twinkies! I mean, go Pats! Sorry Eagles, I can't help but cheer for the NFL team that plays most like a team.
Honestly, I'll probably cheer for whomever is losing at the moment...
Posted by: sacky at February 6, 2005 09:17 AMI am hosting an Unsuperbowl party today. We will focus on the commercials and give awards to the best!
I think just 14 days til pitchers and catchers report!
Posted by: Soccerfan at February 6, 2005 10:24 AMI'm not sure if this goes here or at DTFC.

Cut and paste. Johan as the Extra Terrestrial!
Posted by: drake33 at February 6, 2005 11:15 AMWordSmith stole my post! Having lived in the great City of Brotherly Love for 2 stupendous, cheesesteak-filled years, I must side with BatGirl: GO IGGLES!!!
Posted by: Anita at February 6, 2005 01:17 PMOh, those Patriots did some wonderful things back in 1776. But remember, 1776 was a long time ago. Obviously. And America is no longer the underdog. Obviously. With that in mind... Rooting for the underdog is simply unAmerican, especially considering that you're choosing to root against the folks who fought and won your freedom, the Patriots. Think about it. By rooting for the Eagles (when Ben wanted Turkeys!), you are saying that America must fall. America must be dismantled. Why you're rooting for the downfall of modern democracy as we know it. Hell, you're rooting for nefarious religiocracies from afar. (And near) which has me giggling in the hypocracy. You're either laughing with U.S. or a(gains)t U.S.
- Old Town
P.S. Yes, I am aware that the proper spelling is hypocrisy. That's another reason to laugh. So, laugh dammit. Hey, I told you to laugh, LAUGH! Do I have to call Tom Ridge to create a no-browse list?
Posted by: Old Town at February 6, 2005 03:06 PMI think it has been definatively established that the Twins are America's team. So trying to argue that is unAmerican to cheer for the Pats is definately wrong. That being said, I agree that the "Iggles" are some kind of weird religious cult. Basically, my point is that I'm watching the Super Bowl with a bunch of Panamanians who think of soccer when I say football instead of with my housemates, all of them big football fans (2 Iggles, 2 Pats). Let's just say I wouldn't be surprised if my house wasn't there when I get back from the Panamanian Super Bowl party.
Posted by: TBird41 at February 6, 2005 03:38 PMI had a get-together with a couple of old roommates for the Super Bowl and had a good time even though only one of us really cared about the outcome (not me). It was mainly a reason to get together, drink beer, and eat too many the most rad buffalo wings I've ever made. Oof.
Favorite commercial: The one where the cat knocks the spaghetti sauce off the stove into a puddle on the floor while the man is chopping vegetables. The man picks up the cat while still holding the knife in one hand just as his wife opens the door making it appear he'd just gutted the cat. It was for some investment company, the tagline being along the lines of "Don't jump to conclusions". Morbid, I suppose, but we all laughed our asses off, and 2 of the 3 of us have cats.
Did anyone see what they were airing on Animal Planet against the Super Bowl? It was The Puppy Bowl. Actually, it's still on and will be on until 2AM at least. Basically, it's a bunch of puppies running around on a miniature football field with assorted toys strewn about and water dishes. Whenever a puppy *ahem* "commits a foul" a referee comes out to clean it up, declare a "puppy foul" on the appropriate yardline, and leaves. I'm not kidding. You can even order it on DVD for $10 if you're so inclined. There's no play-by-play or anything... just frolicking and barking with really generic background music. Trust me, it's not as cute in execution as I think they'd hoped it would be.
Posted by: Skorch at February 6, 2005 11:10 PMOld Town, you make a compelling case. Yet, I believe that the Eagles sport the color green rather than the RW&B as a symbol of the US Mint in Philadelphia. Ergo, to root for the Eagles is akin to love for the Almighty Dollar--and what could be more American than that in these modern times? The high ideals of the Patriots are becoming quiant and obsolete. The Corporate Capitalist is All. Selah.
Posted by: frightwig at February 7, 2005 03:51 AMAll this talk about some other sport. . .
My favorite commercial (and I think the ladies on this board will agree with me) The Brad Pitt commercial.
Posted by: HooliganKat at February 7, 2005 09:42 AMMy favorite was the simple A-B "Thank You" commercial. It's the only commercial where no one in the entire place said a single word throughout the whole thing. One guy even started clapping himself. I still get goosebumps thinking about it.
