As the rain clouds refused to part this afternoon in New York, skipper Ron Gardenhire had no choice but to let his sailors have some shore leave in the Big Apple. The Twins had just one day to see the whole town from Yonkers on down to the Bay!

Que the music! The Twins rush off the ship, delighted to get their surprise shore leave.

"Gee whiz, Cuddyer, get the lead out--we've got just one day!"

Morneau follows his buddy Juan Rincon.

"Shake a leg, Lew!"

Lew sings: "New York, New York..."

Juan: "New York, New York..."

Justin: "New York, New York..."

All: "It's a helluva town!"

"New York, New York, a helluva town. The Bronx is up..."

"...but the Battery's down."

"The people ride in a hole in the ground."

"New York, New York..."

"...it's a helluva town!"
I am gasping for breath, that is so funny. Too bad it isn't raining in the pictures.
Win Twins!

Say, apropos of nothing, the National League is shaping up historically this year. All three teams the Twins have played in previous World Series - the Dodger, Cardinals, and Braves - are in the playoffs. So, if the Twins manage to win the AL pennant, which previous World Series should we remake? I vote for 1965; the original needed a rewrite in the seventh act. Plus, this time it's the Twins who have the best lefty in baseball. Hopefully, the remake will compare to the original more like "Ocean's Eleven" than "Planet of the Apes."
Posted by: arrScott at September 29, 2004 04:06 AMHah! Batgirl, you are truly hilarious.
Posted by: Sasha at September 29, 2004 06:32 AMOuch Jeb that was posted at 2:20 am??? Sims 2 keeping you up? Late nights just aren't the same without the Miss Cleo commercials anymore.
Very well done! That song has been forever corrupted in my head to the Simpsons version of "Springfield, Springfield."

This made my whole morning!! I sat in horrible traffic too long! I busted out laughing - good thing I had no food in my mouth.
Where ever did you find the different facial expressions?!? Priceless!! And did Boo and Lew get taller?!?
Kind of cute in their little sailor outfits!
Maybe a little "Chicago" or maybe the ABBA inspired "Mama Mia" or the Billy Joel/Twila Tharp "Movin' Out" - next time they are out on the town - ooh "Caberet"!?!?
Thank you - thank you!!
Much Love-
Wonder Woman ;-)
That's great. I supposed to go to last night's game and am bummed that it was rained out, but this post helped take the edge off :)
Posted by: Steve at September 29, 2004 08:34 AMi hope this inaugurates a musical comedy tradition on rainout days.

Sincere apologies - I did not give credit where credit was due!
You're both faboolous!

Batgirl, thank you! This just throws me back in time. As an ex-sailor, memories instantly came rushing back, as the laughter filled the room. The only difference is we sang on the way back, and didn't walk quite such straight lines. Oh........how I would love to port in Subic Bay just one last time!
Posted by: insider at September 29, 2004 09:49 AMHats off to Jeb and this terrific entry. That construction worker in the background seems pretty thrilled at our boys arrival, as well he should.
A couple more "Twins in the media" sightings - The October issue of The Rake has an article on Heather and Brad Radke (I have no idea how long it's been out, I hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere). Likewise, this weeks City Pages has an article on Ron Gardenhire's hometown. Both were decent reads.
Posted by: Skorch at September 29, 2004 10:19 AMBatgirl is solely responsible for anything terrific!
Posted by: Jeb at September 29, 2004 11:04 AMOff topic but I couldn't help sharing.
I just rode the elevator with Carl Pohlad. I was wondering when I'd finally run into the old man as he has an office in our building.
Posted by: HooliganKat at September 29, 2004 12:19 PM
That would take way more than two minutes. What does this have to do with the twins? Go Johan.
Posted by: Mike&Jane at September 29, 2004 12:48 PMOnce again, a gem. NICE work, dear Jeb!
Oh, and here's an interesting article about the Cy Young race:

While I resepct your right to free speech and the first amendment - there clearly is not enough sass in your statement - nor did you tie anything in with the Twins or baseball - c'mon we're here to have some Sassy Batgirl fun ;-)
I know the world is all topsy turvey - and I like to come here and forget about all that - if I want some gloom and doom I'll watch the news or read the paper.
Can't we have a little paradise somewhere?!?
Just my opinion =)
Much Peace and Love -

Go away PMHLXK go far far away!
Love those sailors! Very cute!
Posted by: mas at September 29, 2004 01:17 PMDid you read the whole article that stacy gave, anyone? The part where it says Bitch-Sock Buehrle (however u spell it) is up for Cy Young consideration?
Posted by: Sasha at September 29, 2004 01:18 PMBatgirl deleted PMHLXK's politics rant, which Mike and Jane and others were responding to, and has no place on this blog. Pardon the interruption. Let's get back to sailor boys.
Love,
Batgirl
Truly hi-larious! Perhaps the Yankees should have their own musical tribute. Considering they are going to have to play the mighty Twins not once but twice today, I'm sure that yesterday Joe Torre and the gang were relishing the rain and were enjoying the idea of postponing the showdown in the Bronx. This overwhelming sense of relief exploded from Joe in song, as he was marching down the street, umbrella in his hand, swinging from lamp post to lamp post, crooning, "I'm singing in the rain, just singing in the rain. What a glorious feeling, I'm singing in the rain." Of course, he then gets hit by a taxi. Cheer for the Minnesota Twins to-day!
Posted by: Honest Abe at September 29, 2004 03:00 PM3-0 Twins going into the bottom of the 1st. A lot of baseball left to play but spotting Johan a 3 run lead isn't a bad way to start.
Posted by: mmmarkiep at September 29, 2004 03:22 PMYeah Torii!
Posted by: SDave at September 29, 2004 03:34 PMYikes, JKS gave up a run in the first.
Posted by: mmmarkiep at September 29, 2004 03:37 PMAfter 2, it seems Johan's found his pitches, striking out the side after putting Matsui and Olerud on base. I hope the Yanks enjoy their 1 run, because it's all they're likely to get off of him until Gardy pulls him for the 6th.
Posted by: Skorch at September 29, 2004 03:50 PMYou know, JKS is dominating, but the Yankees can hit up and down the lineup. Let's hope he has his stuff tonight and lets hope the bullpen brings their brass ones.
Posted by: mmmarkiep at September 29, 2004 04:24 PMBoo Torii
Posted by: SDave at September 29, 2004 05:50 PMRats....lost to the stinkin Yankees. Should have left JKS into to get that 21st win. I hate losing to the Yankees almost as much as I hate losing to the BitchSox. Oh well...hopefully Kyle can pull out a win in game 2.
Posted by: SDave at September 29, 2004 05:54 PMWell, chalk up another for J.C. He is obviously playoff ready. I hope to never hear his name again.Excuse me, I meant to hear his name again never.
Posted by: al at September 29, 2004 05:55 PMWhen will Santana be a free agent ? He would look real good in pinstripes.
Posted by: Jeter at September 29, 2004 06:10 PMSDave-
On error, and you're booing the best centerfielder in baseball? C'mon. Stand behind your team. ( I'm assuming you liek the twins)
Will someone please explain to Jeff Brantley that the Twins team playing right now is not the same team as the one that will be playing in the playoffs? Will someone also explain to him that if the Yanks won't be seeing Lohse in the playoffs? And one final thing: It's REST TO VICH, not RES TOE VIC or however Berman just pronounced it. Can't at least one of the announcers know somethign about baseball?
I'm done ranting now,
TBird
Actually, third41, you forgot the rant about Brantly claiming that Cuddyer is "normally an outfielder"Do these people even read the sports pages?
Posted by: al at September 29, 2004 07:19 PMI meant tbird41, kind of like Restovic, but I'm way old.
Posted by: al at September 29, 2004 07:22 PMGame 2 of doubleheader:
Cuddyer just made a throwing error...please do not tell me the wheels are comin off the bus...
Win Twins!

BB
Posted by: blogboy at September 29, 2004 07:56 PMHe made a throwing error because he is usually an outfielder.
Posted by: al at September 29, 2004 09:05 PMDear AL -
Michael was drafted as an infielder, SS I believe, - we moved him to the outfield to get him some playing time - Michael prefers to play in the infield. He's played in the infield more then the outfield this year.

According to Page Six, Mr. Morneau was spotted chasing "Miss Turnstiles" around town.
Posted by: kw at September 29, 2004 09:46 PMWonder Woman, and you are, I was referring to my earlier post in which I upbraided Jeff Brantly for telling the T.V. audience that Cuddyer was usually an outfielder, when you, and I and any real fan, or mere reader of the sports pages would know that he has been serving as a Rivas/ Koskie replacement all year. The more erudite of us would also know that he was a 2nd baseman in the minors. There was a sarcastic undercurrent to my comment about his error. Aquaman
Posted by: al at September 29, 2004 10:00 PMAm I the only one who noticed that Jim Caple showed Batgirl some love? Batgirl.com is listed as a favorite news source for the Purist Party candidate in the mock election on ESPN Page 2:
"Favorite news sources: ESPN.com, SportsCenter, Bat-girl.com and St. Paul Pioneer Press columnist Charley Walters."
So the Purists love Batgirl...does she love them? Which is it, are you a Purist or Progressive? (see the party platforms before you endorse!)
Posted by: Sean at September 29, 2004 10:04 PMDear - AL
Sorry to upset you
Good evening

TBird:
You are correct with your statements, and we Yankee fans realize it. Further, we needed to clinch the division title, and played our hardest, while you are fine tuning as you coast to the playoffs. And two close games were played (and one was against Lohse). These two teams will play different games in a few weeks...
Hate that it comes down to this, but as a frequent poster for some time, I feel like it is my duty to apologize for certain posters (e.g., "Jeter") that have been classlessly interfering with such a pristine environment. I realize that posters like these are part of the reason that decent fans like BatGirl do not respect the Yankees, and I hope that a distinction can be made between the post-1996 bandwagon fans, and longtime fans. Please accept my apologies for Jeter's actions, he knows not from whenth he came, and knows not whereth he will end up.

Posted by: YankeeFan at September 30, 2004 08:21 AMYankeeFan, you are a class act, and a clear demonstration of the dangers of stereotyping (of which I have certainly been just as guilty as others). Who woulda thunk a Yankee fan could be so nice??? (Plus, I always appreciate your sterling grammar, spelling, and punctuation, things that are inordinately dear to this ol' scribbler's heart.)
