Please join Team Batgirl for a Santana/Nathan '04 rally at the Metrodome for Sunday's game at 1:00. The rally will take place in section 141...best to get there early, and get tickets early since it's a bobblehead day, it's a Johan-start, and the Twins could possibly clinch. We'll be in our gear. Anyone want to make a big sign?
Surging in the polls.

Posted by Batgirl at September 16, 2004 11:50 PMGreat reviews of the White Sox -- oops, Bitch Socks -- series. Ditto your restrained behavior toward Kyle Loss -- oops, Kyle Lohse.
It looks as if our boys are ready to clinch, then go on successfully into the playoffs.
Query: in your opinion, would the boys be better off facing the BoSox or the Yanks in the first round?
Some in the family think t'would be better to finish with a worse record than Oakland, thereby meeting the Yanks in the first round. The same argue that our currently hot pitching and the modified playoff schedule would assure Twins' success against the Bombers -- the Yanks' starting pitching being deficient.
Others in the family think that the Yanks seem to "come alive" in the playoffs -- at least until the World Series -- and would pose a greater threat than Boston.
Your thoughts please.
Posted by: Wilychurchmouse at September 17, 2004 04:44 AMWow, I just can't believe my great luck! You see, every year or so, my family ventures out of the dark recesses of Montana to make a visit to the Dome, where we bicker, eat, and generally scream our lungs out. So that would have been enough for me; but call it fate, call it coincidence, call it happenstance, (happenstance? is that a word?), I actually have tickets for Sunday's game in the designated rally section! Yeah, I know, of all the baseball player presidential campaigns in all the towns in all the world...you get the idea.
And although my parents might frown upon me sitting in the midst of a large band of merry Minnesotans intermittently yelling their hilarious mantra, I may just pop in and say hi, life-altering effects be damned. Just for reference, I'll be the dorky high school girl with the dad who looks suspiciously like Terry Mulholland. (I've taken to calling him "the crafty veteran" and making fun of his goatee whenever possible.) CYa there!
Up Waaay Past My Bedtime,
Erica
I'm still hoping to make it to Sunday's game... I don't know if I'll have my campaign stuff (it's in the mail, though!), but I'm hoping. I'll be a bit later, though, 'cause I'll be coming straight from church...
Hope to meet some of you there :)

Posted by: JustBeth at September 17, 2004 08:51 AMMy Batgear is due to arrive today. I left a note for the UPS man to leave it, since I won't be home to sign for it (I do have a day job...), so here's hoping that it actually arrives on time.
If not, I have a poster board-sized Santana/Nathan '04 sign that I brought to Wednesday night's game. That will have to suffice.
But I'll be there, along with the two junior goddesses, and am looking forward to meeting everybody in person.
Be there or be a Bitch Sox!
Posted by: TwinsGoddess at September 17, 2004 09:49 AMGreat article on Johan on espn.com today. The baseball writers have got the message: Johan is a monster and likely to not just win the Cy Young but also to be a serious contender for MVP.
Posted by: Ice at September 17, 2004 09:56 AMOh how I wish that I could be there, but higher education (aka being in DC) prevents me (though maybe I can intern w/ the new president or vice president next semester-can you put in a good word for me Bat-Girl?.
At least I got to see El Presidente pitch at Camden (front row due to the "hurricane") and of course I was there when Pedro passed the torch, so I can draw on those memories. Anyway, for those of you going, please yell a nice loud "SIT DOWN, BITCH" for me.

If we come out of the woods and get back in town in time, I'll try to get out there. Otherwise, it looks like I'll be missing another outing. Remember, don't step in any peeps poop!
Posted by: mmmarkiep at September 17, 2004 10:21 AMTeam Batgirl will be there. I might have my harmonica. The rally-sombrero will definitely be there. What other motivation do you need?
It's probably too late to work out now, but it would be kind of cool to have a bunch of red "J"s to hold up for every Santana strikeout, sort of like the graphic Batgirl used in previous recaps of Santana games to enumerate his "J" total.
Oddly, I'll actually be at every game this series. Here's to hoping the Twins clinch at home. Had it not been for a friends wedding in the Black Hills I would have been there for the clinching game last season. Even if I did let myself get duped into stopping in Wall twice, at least I got to see Mt Rushmore.
Posted by: Skorch at September 17, 2004 10:44 AMOoh! Good idea about the Js. I can bring a few, but it might be good if several of us bring some.
On a totally unrelated note, I just met Rod Carew. The real Rod Carew, in person.
I'm still kinda dizzy.
Posted by: TwinsGoddess at September 17, 2004 10:59 AMIn addition to the campaign outing on Sunday, it is International Talk Like a Pirate Day!

You made me giggle - the "real Rod Carew' - I didn't know there was another one or an imposter out there - I'm not making fun of ya -it was cute! =)
I think I can bring some 'Js' - I am not going tonight - I've been the last 3 days it's my night away from the Dome - Do they have to uniform?? Like all red or something?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Sorry - I hit the post button twice!!
I was distracted by Boo! =)
Wonder Woman - What I had in mind were red "J"s on white pieces of posterboard. I don't want to create a bunch of last-second work for anyone but if people want to do this, cool. 27 "J"s should be enough. ;-)
Will you be bringing your kazoo?
Posted by: Skorch at September 17, 2004 11:29 AMYou guys have fun. I'd love to make it, but getting up at 7:30 and driving 4 hours doesn't sound like something I'd be able to do. I'm going to make my girlfriend watch the game though. She understands. Of course, this means I will be subjected to a movie in which the main character falls in love only to get cancer or something.
Posted by: The 7th Angel at September 17, 2004 11:29 AMI'm not sure if anyone posted this link yet but just in case....nice article about Candidate Santana on ESPN:

Posted by: SDave at September 17, 2004 11:39 AMWW, I just wanted to make it clear that it was the living, breathing Rod Carew whom I met, and not one of the many Twins that I have daily conversations with in my HEAD. And not the bobblehead, either.
He is a very genuine, very humble, honest-to-goodness nice guy.
He said the pitcher he used to fear most was neither Nolan Ryan nor Goose Gossage. It was Rudy May.
He said the balls from his first major league hit, his 1000th hit, his 2000th hit, and his 3000th hit are all in the Hall of Fame.
He said he preferred playing first base to second.
And lots of other stuff.
I can print out about a dozen Js. If someone else wants to do the other 15, I'm using Arial Black font, filled in in red with a 3 pt. black outline. I'm printing them on a regular 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper (portrait), using pretty much the whole page.
Posted by: TwinsGoddess at September 17, 2004 11:40 AMTwinsGoddess - Well, I was exaggerating on needing 27, as the prospect of sitting down every possible batter with a strikeout is more than I can do on "MVP Baseball 2004" for the PS2, and I'm pretty good. But a dozen of them sounds about right. You're awesome, thanks for doing this.

I see - well that should be easy enough - I think-=)!! Maybe we all wear one when Johan strikes out a guy -that would surely get us on Dome Vision! If that is the goal for Sunday!
Note to Wonder Woman - bring.. wait find Kazoo - I think I left mine on Paradise Island.
BTW - She-ra and I will be at the Dome around 11.30 on Saturday - by Gate F - which would not help you at all because you don't know what we look like! Well I am not an Amazon -I am the total opposite I am a shrimp!! But wait -she and I can look thru the Batgirl archives and find your picture!
Look rambling again - sorry!!
Much love -

Wow - I do the same thing!! Great minds do think a like ;} I often wonder what I would say if I met Boo or my baseball idol - Greg Maddux! I think that is faboolous that you met Rodney!! I remember watching him at the Met when I was a wee one!
If you need more J's let me know - I'm not very handy with my computer - I prefer the marker and crayon route!
Much Love -

My friend Bella and I will be in Section 224 -- Hold those signs high and we will have a perfect view! (Well, OK, maybe with binoculars.) I am wishing hard for a clinch on Sunday.
By coincidence our playoff seats will be in Section 141. I've never sat there before but couldn't get Upper Club tickets so am relying on the Batlings' recommendation that we'll have a good view. Not to mention the chance at a homerun or two.
Smitty
Wonder Woman - I'll be near the stage outside for awhile, but I'll be sure to take the route past Gate F to Gate B Saturday. Maybe I'll see you then, if not then Sunday.
Posted by: Skorch at September 17, 2004 01:46 PMSkorch - sounds good -
But if you happen to see a young lady about 5'6" with curly uncontrollable hair wearing a She-Ra t-shirt - you have spotted us=)
See you then - have fun at the game tonight!

I shall also be there in my season ticket seats. It will be my final game of the season.
So again, we shall be:
"Batlings United...Across the Dome..."
But this time I'll remember my binocs...and maybe I'll swing by if I make a trip to the Stadium club for a drink or two before the game.
I'll be there too! But I'm going with my mom (she LOVES Santana) and a friend. We're sitting in the lowered reserved section. Should be fun. I hope all you Batlings get noticed!! I got my merch. finally! In fact, while watching the game tonight on TV, I might have to use my "Sit Down, Bitch" mug. I'll try to remember to wear my shirt to the game on Sunday!
Posted by: ForMorneau at September 17, 2004 03:41 PMI will most likely be there, although probably in Upper GA (my prefered seats, especially since I'm poor). I may sneak my way down to the rally if I bike there on my own, but if I'm there with my parents, I doubt they'd approve of me going down and sitting with some people from the internet for a couple innings. It's one thing for Lew Ford to do it, and then it's another thing for me to do it. But I was planning on bringing some big J's and hanging them from the upper deck railing just above 141, so I'd recommend you all look backwards and look for me. Not to deter anyone from bringing their own J's, I just figure the more there are, the better. And I've been looking forward to doing that for quite a while now. Should be an excellent game!

I have a large banner that should work to advertise the candidates very well. It will, however, require more than one person to properly display it. Since my hockey-loving, anti-baseball friends have once again declined to attend, I may need some help with this. I'm assuming that won't be a problem.
Um, not to be indelicate, but what else do hockey-loving people have to do over the next month but to help a friend with a worthy cause like this?
Posted by: frightwig at September 18, 2004 03:01 AMI'll be there! At the last minute, someone pitched in to work for me! Yeah!
Posted by: Donnalove at September 18, 2004 03:06 PMI got tickets before I knew about the get-together, but I'll stop by either before the game, or in the 7th inning stretch. I'll be the one in the pink Batgirl T-shirt (that arrived today!).
Posted by: Agent 99 at September 18, 2004 07:04 PMI will have to be there in spirit because I have my own Baseball game I am playing in at 2:00.
Give them hell BG.
(Maybe I'll tape the game.)
Posted by: ketut at September 18, 2004 09:51 PM
Added to say, I have a foul ball from Rod Carew that bounced off the second deck and down to me at the old Met stadium. Now I have a total of 2 balls from games, the second a Shannon Stewart that also bounced off the second deck. (stung like hell) Anyone else have fouls, homers or BP balls?
If anyone checks in the morning, I'll be there, too, along with a non-bat-girl fan, but Twins fan nonetheless. Unfortunately, we'll probably be later--I'm coming more-or-less straight from church (err, changing clothes quickly).
Errr...if you could save a couple of seats for a new bat-girl fan, we'd appreciate it. I'm not sure what I'm going to be wearing because the dear old postman didn't bring me my bat-girl gear yet! :( I presume I'll be able to locate you guys, though. But if you see two 20-somethings, one dark blond with glasses and hair tied back, one brunette with short hair...looking lost. That'd be us. (I'm the blond.)
