Dougie Baseball in Beantown

Nice, really long article about Dougie at the Boston Globe:

"He'll be a good fit for this clubhouse," Bellhorn said, "because he's kind of laid-back and goofs around."

No question about it.

"Hey, Snook," Ortiz shouted across the clubhouse, using the nickname derived from Mientkiewicz's passion for fishing. "Did you hear what I did to Corey [Koskie]?"

Off they went, with Ortiz recounting the practical joke he played last weekend in Minnesota on Koskie (in part, Ortiz rubbed eye black on the inside of Koskie's cap so when Koskie removed the cap during an interview a black ring appeared across his forehead), and Mientkiewicz filling in Ortiz on Koskie's latest prank (Koskie took a pair of scissors to his teammates's clothes, including the sleeves of Torii Hunter's suit).

awwwwwwwww...*wipes tear from eye*
I am glad he's happy there...but I'd rather have him be happy here! I am glad he fits in well over there...but it's just SO WEIRD not seeing #16 with the high stockings on 1st base. His lucky spot is nothing anymore:(
Cordel=master of pranks.

I'm so glad to see Dougie having fun over there. There is no way they won't enjoy having him on their team. He's a great goofy guy.

While I will have a tough time adjusting to Dougie's absence, at least I have the knowledge that he is probably in a better place right now, at least for him. I only wish I could say the same for A.J., but all he has is playing video games with Dustan Mohr and going to McDonalds with his mom whenever he walks. Dougie's trade has, however, also left me with a dilemma. While I have always cheered for the Red Sox, and will continue to do so with renewed enthusiasm, if they win the wild card then our beloved Twinkies will get stuck with the Yankees again in the first round of the playoffs. And while I have every ounce of faith that our Twins will do their best and will play their hearts out, I know, deep within my heart of hearts, that triumphing over the Yankees in the playoffs is a tremendous thing to ask of any team, and ultimately, wouldn't be Twins baseball. In conclusion, cheering for the BoSox is the sharpest of double-edged swords.

Assuming that the Red Sox win the Wild Card, the Twins can avoid facing the Yankees in the ALDS by having a better record than the winner of the AL West.

The division champ with the best record plays the Wild Card team, unless the Wild Card comes from the winningest division champ's division. Then the winningest division champ plays the losingest division champ and the second-winningest division champ plays the Wild Card. (Which makes the Electoral College seem easy.) As long as the Twins have more wins than the eventual AL West champs, we should avoid the Yankees in the ALDS.

Which is counting chickens before they've hatched, since winning the Central is no given just yet, but there's the math of it. Knock on wood - or, in this case, chickens.

My apologies, arrScott, in not pointing out that fact. I do understand the system, however, I was taking into account the fact that, given past performance, it is unlikely that the winner of the Central Division, hopefully the Twins, will finish with a higher win total than the winner of the Western Division. I remind you of the fact that the Twins have won the division with no more than 94 wins the last two years.

I really think the WC will come out of the west this year. Boston just doesn't have it this time, I think it'll be Oakland or Anaheim. Anaheim just seems cold, and Oakland doesn't have a good bullpen as well as Zito having an off-year. As long as we can keep them from having yet ANOTHER dynamite 2nd-half, I feel confident that we won't face the Yankees until the ALCS.

What I would really enjoy would be if the White Sox were the WC. I feel confident we can beat Oakland or Anaheim in the ALDS. Then they could beat down the Yankees in their ALDS (as they usually do) and then we could beat down the White Sox (as we usually do) and then face presumably the Cardinals in the WS.

I got tears in my eyes from reading that, but surprisingly they weren't tears of sadness....they were tears of happiness. I'm so happy that he's happy over there. It's good for him to be happy. It would be better if he was here, but everything for him will hopefully work out.

Oh, and BatGirl, you are a complete and utter genius:) I thoroughly enjoy reading your recaps of the games and just every thing you write. Keep up the GREAT work and I'll keep reading:D

I miss him so...but I'm glad he's feeling good about the move.

Schwebbs75: Its time to believe in that little phrase you see on investment options: Past performance does not indicate future sucess.
Current records
Twins 61-46
Texas 60-46 (leader of the West)
Right now this would go in the "too close to call" category, but certainly I am not ready to right off the Twins to any team in the West. The West teams will play each other (not to mention the Twins) mucho over the last 55 games and maybe produce a lot of parity among them. As penance for you lack of faith, please say 10 "Touch 'em alls" and sing with me!

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Twins
They are trampling out the Bitch Sox, the Kittens and the Tribe.
They take on all comers with that Minnesota Pride
The Twins are marching on!
:)

"He has hit .545 (6 for 11) in his first three games for the team and has made every play in the field."

Ouch.

Now listen here, Soccerfan. I am by no means counting the Twins out of anything. I am merely trying to be realistic. Since I was a small boy, I have had nothing but hopes of glory for the Twins. Every year these hopes were renewed, despite the failures of the previous season. I was merely pointing out a personal problem I have with rooting for the BoSox and our Dougie Baseball. Hopefully we can put our differences aside in a bid to cheer Bradke onto victory this evening.

Dear Mr. Fan,

You made Batgirl weep! That was the most beautiful song ever.

Sincerely,
Batgirl
