Batgirl has nominated Johan Santana for President...but who should be his running mate? BatLings, please vote! Voting is limited to once per day.
Polls will close Thursday after the game.
(And, no, I can't fix the big @#$@#$ white space between the entry and the poll. Please forgive the horrific visual offense.)
Don't worry about the space BatGirl. I can't even get my bulleted lists to work right.
Posted by: The 7th Angel at August 3, 2004 12:32 PMAn enticing field, surely - filled with men of great accomplishment and great aspiration. But who should the young hurler choose? Who will best complement the smarmy good looks, the devestating change-up, the hope for a better tomorrow?
The ticket needs stability. It needs an elder statesmen who can anchor Santastic's youth and inexperience while underscoring the greatness that this campaign is trying to restore. It needs a batsman whose name is synonomous with efficacy, and is memorialized by a road near the Mall of America.
In 2004, vote Santana-Killebrew.
Posted by: Haplo at August 3, 2004 12:57 PMHmmm. I think since Santana is so overpowering and potentially confrontational ("Sit down, Bitch"), it would be wise to partner him with a truly amiable and mild mannered partner. So, Cordel for VP. Plus he's Canadian, which is nice.
Posted by: Craig in MN at August 3, 2004 01:04 PMSince Santana is always wishing everyone "Happy Birthday," shouldn't Bert be his VP? That would add a phat curveball to the Johaninator's already fearsome three-pitch arsenal.
Posted by: Goober at August 3, 2004 01:10 PMDoesn't it only make sense that Mauer should be his running mate? They're battery-mates on the field, and we know how well that works out...
Posted by: JerDandy at August 3, 2004 01:19 PMWell, we haven't really seen them together on the field much, though, what with the injuries to the knee.
Vote: Santana/Nathan in '04
Sit down, Bitch/Seriously, just sit DOWN.
Posted by: IcePhoenix at August 3, 2004 01:23 PMVote Santana/Nathan
The only two pitchers the Cardinals will face in game 7 of the World Series.
Posted by: Florida at August 3, 2004 01:43 PMDear Florida,
I love your optimism!
Dear everyone else,
Even though I nominated Hammerin' Hank Blanco, I voted for Nathan because that's the T-Shirt I'd rather buy:
Santana/Nathan '04.
Happy Birthday!
I think it could be rather popular, much like those handkerchieves of years past.
Happy Birthday,
amr
Santana/Nathan.
So many N's and A's there--only exceeded by the number of K's.
Posted by: Biggie_Robs at August 3, 2004 02:12 PMDear Mr. Florida,
That was totally hot, what you just said.
Sincerely,
Batgirl
I think Batgirl should make that T-shirt--- Santana/Nathan '04. Happy Birthday: Now sit down, bitch.
Posted by: Goober at August 3, 2004 03:02 PMIsn't it obvious?
Johan's running mate must be Nathan.
Constitutionally, the VP must be ready to step in and finish should the starter be unable to complete his appointed term.
By the way, if Mr. Ryan is listening:
"Four more years! Four more years!"
I don't want to leave anyone out, however, so what about the following jobs for the other candidates:
Doug M. - Transportation Secretary or no, wait, Press Secretary - yeah, that's it; more face time for Doug.
Brad R. - sort of a senior advisor, perhaps Chief of Staff; critical to Johan's development as a leader, but more of a "behind the scenes" guy.
Harmon K. - Johan's first nominee to the Supreme Court; he's patient, judicious, kind, and a member of the Hall of Fame.
Torii H. - another obvious one - Secretary of Defense.
Joe M. - Secretary of State - he's "one of us", plus he's an obvious diplomat, handling all of our relations with foreign powers and umpires with alacrity. Just what we need in the office, too, after the tumultuous relationships under Secretary Pierzynski.
Cordel K. - Secretary of the Interior and/or Ambassador to Canada, eh.
Henry B. - Director of Homeplate(land) Security.
Posted by: ThatsRich at August 3, 2004 03:23 PMI have heard a lot of talk about candidates wanting the "Latino" vote. Taking that into considoration I went for Blanco!
Posted by: Soccerfan at August 3, 2004 04:35 PMI'm with Goober...time for the BatCommunity to start wearing "Santana/Nathan '04. Happy Birthday: Now sit down, bitch" shirts. I'll stop by my shirt place to night and see if they would do such a thing. And none of that crappy iron on/screen printing stuff...real embroidery…nothing but the best for this campaign.
And if anybody was wondering “where is Juan” yesterday I have the answer – he was out shopping for a TV and stereo with my daughter who has become the unofficial technology advisor for the players.

As a completely unrelated sidebar to the campaign goings on, I stumbled across an imformative page over at ESPN's Page 3, which discusses at-bat songs:

Posted by: mk at August 3, 2004 05:56 PMMK, that's really cool. I heard a little thing about the music the players pick on TV the other day. That's cool.
Posted by: mtwns59 at August 3, 2004 06:18 PMIf Santana/Nathan wins instead of Santana/Mauer I am protesting the ticket due to disenfranchisement, cronyism and Diebold non-paper trail voting.
Strike 'em out! Throw 'em out! '04!
Posted by: Mimiru at August 3, 2004 06:29 PMonly problem, there won't be many if any throw 'em outs with johan pitching, cuz there won't be any runners
more like strike 'em out/tag him out
Posted by: mt at August 3, 2004 06:40 PMWhatever the choice for VP, I am worried about flack from the Bull ticket of Davis/Laloosh. I am afraid of a smear campaign against Santana, claiming that he is fascist...

Posted by: mk at August 3, 2004 07:06 PMWhat do you want in a veep? A quiet, qualified, respected, mature body to fill in on a few random affairs of state...amybe break a rare tie in the senate.
Have you noticed Johan's streak of unconsciously sublime pitching has coincided with Henry Blanco's unexpected "promotion". They are battery-mates, why not ticket-mates?
Plus that latin vote is all-important and a double-latin ticket might just be wild enough to work.
Blanco...he's harmless.
Posted by: boomer at August 3, 2004 09:20 PMI'm for the Johan the Barbarian/Anna Benson ticket in '04.
Posted by: Styles at August 3, 2004 10:04 PMWho is this "Johan the Barbarian"? We know not of any Johan around here who fits such a description.
Posted by: frightwig at August 3, 2004 10:26 PM:(
Posted by: Boo at August 4, 2004 09:06 AMDearest Boo,
Worry not. I am sure you will have a nice position in the government. Perhaps Secretary of State?
Sincerely,
Batgirl
I'm sorry to have to do this, but none of those candidates are eligible. The Vice Presidential candidate must reside in a different state than the presidential nominee. As such, the Johanine reign of terror must be facilitated by a running mate from another team. I humbly suggest Al Leiter of the New York Mets. Triumphing even through the darkest adversity (read: Kazuo Matsui playing shortstop like Dave Kingman reborn and Mike Piazza hitting like the gay choir in Blazing Saddles), the Senator's boyish good looks and charm will bring the best of both worlds - youthful vigor and years of experience. And the worst dirt in his background is already public: he broke in with the Evil Empire (though it should be noted that he revolted and proceeded to define his career with the Empire's nemises, the aforementioned Mets). Plus he throws a wicked slider which would compliment Santana's Style, so you'd keep people off balance and whatnot and such.
There's no spot for a write in, but Leiter gets my vote.
Humbly yours,
Wombatman
