Posted by: Jeb at July 14, 2004 04:09 PMCan I just cordially invite all of our new friends who've begun reading Batgirl since hearing her on MPR yesterday to type the words, "My Dinner with Eddie" into the search field to the left?
Posted by: Jeb at July 14, 2004 04:12 PM
All I can say is,
HoHoHo Chi Minh
May Chairman Mauer help us win!
Um... Chairman of what? The Twins?
Posted by: Mimiru at July 14, 2004 04:41 PMNow, will there be 50' by 80' versions of that picture available so the enterprising Mauer fan can drape one (or several) on the side of the nearest skyscraper?
Posted by: mk at July 14, 2004 04:45 PMChairman of All That Matters, Mimiru!
Posted by: RonDavis at July 14, 2004 04:45 PMI'm sorry, Sox Fan. The young dictator may be wise, but Chicago will receive no compassion. The Chairman will rule with an iron fist, a stone heart, and a gold glove...eventually. All hail Chairman Mauer!
Posted by: Florida at July 14, 2004 06:03 PM
Chairman Mauer to take us all on a Great Leap Forward!
Chairman Mauer to lead us in a Cultural Revolution!
Chairman Mauer to swim the Yellow River!
March On! March On! March On!
Posted by: el diablo at July 14, 2004 07:03 PMThe Mauler thanks you for your efforts. Joe M.
Posted by: al at July 14, 2004 08:04 PMAs the nominator of "MoJo", I must say that my only disappointment is in missing out on the great fame and notoriety as the one who proposed the winning nickname. Apart from that, I actually have liked Chairman Mauer better since it was first proposed. Long live the Chairman! Kind and benevolent to his subjects, but merciless to his enemies!
Posted by: Glove Boy at July 14, 2004 09:36 PMChairman Mauer has a glorious seven-year plan...
...to single-handedly dominate central division pitching, that is!
MPR?! Cool! When? What time? I cannot find a BatGirl clip through MPR's website search function.
Posted by: Old Town at July 15, 2004 12:19 AMOkay Ron, I'll buy it. Chairman Muaer has convinced me to invest all my money into his "Twins" business.
Posted by: Mimiru at July 15, 2004 12:42 AMDearest Mr. Town,
If you scroll down to the "Bat Alert" on July 12 and read the comments, there will be a link.
Sincerely,
Batgirl
Other nicknames I'd like to see take hold in the public mind:
"Mojo" Nathan
"Ho Chi" Mientkiewicz
"Cracker Barrel" LeCroy
"Sensei" Jones
Christian "Charity" Guzman
Luis "Please Leave Us" Rivas
All hail Chairman Mauer (although I do still like JoJo Ma). I thought I would now take a few moments to pass on some quotes from another, less athletic Chairman Mao that seem fitting (some are slightly edited for lenghth and content):
This team has an indomitable spirit and is determined to vanquish all enemies and never to yield. No matter what the difficulties and hardships, so long as a single man remains, he will fight on.
Give full play to our style of fighting - courage in battle, no fear of sacrifice, no fear of fatigue, and continuous fighting (that is, fighting successive battles in a short time without rest).
Be resolute, fear no sacrifice and surmount every difficulty to win victory.
You have many good qualities and have rendered great service, but you must always remember not to become conceited. You are respected by all, and quite rightly, but this easily leads to conceit. If you become conceited, if you are not modest and cease to exert yourselves, and if you do not respect others, do not respect the cadres and the masses, then you will cease to be heroes and models. There have been such people in the past, and I hope you will not follow their example.
and finally...
This team is powerful because all its members have a conscious discipline; they have come together and they fight not for the private interests of a few individuals or a narrow clique, but for the interests of the broad masses and of the whole Twins nation. The sole purpose of this team is to stand firmly with the Twins fans and to serve them whole-heartedly.
All hail Chairman Mauer!
SDave
I'm still a big fan of Luis 0-for-Three-vas. I think Gleeman came up with that one...
Oops...forgot my favorite:
Despise the enemy strategically, but take him seriously tactically.
And Luis 0-for-Three-vas is great. Right up there with Grant BallFour.
Posted by: SDave at July 15, 2004 10:18 AMAnd they should have consulted this Maoism before the last series:
In waking a tiger, use a long stick.
Posted by: SDave at July 15, 2004 10:21 AMDear SDave,
That was truly wonderful. Thank you.
Admiringly,
Batgirl
Don't thank me Batgirl...thank the venerable (albeit communistic) Chairman Mao who was almost as wise and worldy as our own Chairman Mauer.
Posted by: SDave at July 15, 2004 03:41 PMBut if you go carrying baseball cards of Chairman Mauer, you ain't gonna make it with anyone any hour. Naw, doesn't work.
Posted by: Silo at July 16, 2004 09:42 AMYou can never go wrong with a good Beatles reference.
Posted by: Skorch at July 16, 2004 10:15 AMI thought Schwing! might be a good nick for our young, newly designated Chairman. But I will faithfully read his little red book and memorize his thoughts.
