Hey, there's some shenanigans goin' on here ...

Posted by: Andre at July 8, 2004 09:49 AM

I'm afriad her High Bat-ness neglected to instill anti-fraud measures into the poll.

After seeing the highly-skewed results ("Mau-Mau?!?! c'mon, its not THAT good), I realized I could vote numerous times for my favorite.

Perhaps a re-vote is in order?

Posted by: boomer at July 8, 2004 09:57 AM

Dear Readers,

Oh dear. Well, I shall reset the poll, with measures in place. Please vote again.

sincerely,
Batgirl

Dear Bat-girl,

I voted before the re-set and now can't vote again.

Also, could we open this up to run-off voting for the top two vote getters so the winner has majority appeal?

Posted by: amr at July 8, 2004 10:40 AM

Dear mr. mr,

Thank you for bringing that to my attention. It should be fixed now. (Alas, Batgirl is a lover, not a programmer, but she does her best.)

The run-off is an excellent idea. We shall do that during the All-Star Break, along with BULLPEN IDOL.

Sincerely,
Batgirl

Instead of Wonderboy, how 'bout Roy Hobbs?

Posted by: Troy Sims at July 8, 2004 10:55 AM

Batgirl,

You can still vote multiple times in this poll. I believe I voted for "Gentleman" Joe three times testing this out.

All someone has to do is hit the back button and vote again--I fear for the potential shenanigans.

Posted by: Seano at July 8, 2004 11:14 AM

"I swear to God, I'll pistol-whip the next guy who says shenanigans!"

"Hey Farva, what's the name of that Restaurant you like, with all the goofy [stuff] on the walls, and the mozzarella sticks?"

"You mean Shenanigan's?"

"Oooooooohhhhhhh"

"You're talking about Shenanigan's, right?"

Posted by: Seano at July 8, 2004 11:19 AM

Dear Mr. Seano,

That's because when Batgirl redid the whole poll in order not to disenfranchise people who had already voted, she forgot to press the little button that says "Vote Once Per Day." Honestly, Dade County was nothing compared to this!

Thanks for pointing it out,
Batgirl

Hey Batgirl, when I voted it played "Holy Diver" by Dio through the speakers and blood dripped down the inside of my monitor. You might want to look into that.

Yours in smartassery,

Skorch

Thanks for fixing the voting process (or would it be un-"fixing" ?)

In the event of a three way tie or lack of majority or plurality, maybe the ultimate hybrid nick-name could be adopted on an interim basis:
Jo Jo "Quick-Swing(tm)" McMau-Mau

Posted by: boomer at July 8, 2004 12:08 PM

hmmm...maybe even the hyper-ultimate super-conglomo-nickname...........

Chairman MoJo JoJo Mama "QuickSwing(tm)" McMauMau

Posted by: boomer at July 8, 2004 12:20 PM

I wish more people would vote for Chairman Mau-er, that's definitely the best name. And like that Kerry line from back in 1972 that the Republicans keep playing, "we can't fight communism all over the world."

By the way, I wanted to say that even though it happens every year, I was annoyed to once again see a Yankee get picked for the All Star Game when there are a number of players on midwestern teams having better years. If it couldn't have been the Big Hurt, then Lew Ford should have gotten picked this year. All his numbers are better and he's a fresh face.

And finally, how about those White Sox. Are we an all or nothing team or what? we're either sweeping or gettng swept.

I know I missed the boat on this one, but I must humbly suggest "The Wall." His last name does mean "wall" in German, and since there are more than a few folks of German ancestry in our fair state, perhaps they would get the play on words? Plus, he's a sick defensive catcher, so even if you folks out on BatLand like something else, there's no better last name for a catcher than that kid has.

On second thought, "The Wall" translates into German as "Die Mauer." I don't like the sound of that....

Hey! You didn't include (He doesn't need a nickname!) In that poll! Foul Foul! Boooo!

Posted by: Mimiru at July 8, 2004 05:00 PM

Sox Fan:

I appreciate your acknowledgement of Ford's talent, despite the obvious nausea such words must create when bestowing them upon a mortal foe. Many times I have had to say "Alex Rodriguez is the best shortstop I've ever seen play the game." I die a little inside every time I do, so I no how painful that compliment may have been for you. That being said, let me add my opinion:

What the F@#&? Hideki F-Ui? Why was he on that list? I can see why Selig and his Band of Merry Assclowns created this "last man" thing. We have to protect the Yankees from the chance that one of their players might get overlooked for the first time in the history baseball. Thank goodness they did this. I can't imagine an AL All-Star team without more than half a dozen Yankees. I tell you what, I'll go out on a limb, here, and say that if you aren't one of the top 6 players on your team...you might not be an All Star. This is ref@#$ingdiculous...

Dear Florida,

I couldn't #$@$#%@ agree more.

Florida - Sing it, brother. You're right on all counts.

Posted by: Skorch at July 8, 2004 08:13 PM

And now we shall add Vazquez to the WT$#%@ list.

Can I make a late suggestion: Jo Jo Ma

The Stroke is way funny, though.

Posted by: RedBoy at July 9, 2004 03:32 PM

Hey, I like Jo Jo Ma! Continuing in the better late than never....how about a simple Joe Pauer?

And, yes, keep on singing it Florida. Time for a little AssClown flogging
