I know there's been a long and storied (two game) tradition of giving the Boyfriend of the Day award to the fabulous starting pitcher, and sure Lohse was good, but pitching a complete-game shut out is so old school. Who hasn't?
Anyway, who was behind the plate calling all those awesome games, huh? And who went 4 for 5? (Besides Guzie). And who is Batgirl's official barely-legal boyfriend?

Joe Mauer, that's who.
(Somebody, give this man a nickname!)

Posted by Batgirl at July 7, 2004 10:01 PMI heartily disagree. Lohse should get the Batgirl lovin' for his performance tonight. However, this is America, and if we can't agree to disagree over who the B.O.D. is, then the terrorists have already won.
Posted by: Skorch at July 7, 2004 10:11 PMSkorch is 100% right, except for the whole terrorists thing. No, you see if Mauer gets the BOD when Lohse who will likely NEVER enter consideration again doesn't... THAT's when the terrorists have won.
*sniffle* Why does Batgirl hate America?
Posted by: Mimir at July 7, 2004 11:18 PMThe Tower of Mauer. I've called him that since the beginning.
Posted by: Stephen Silver at July 8, 2004 01:47 AMWell, I agree with you BatGirl! Did you know that in Japan, if the pitcher is having a bad game, they sometimes replace the catcher? They don't get enough credit back there!
Posted by: TheBentKangaroo at July 8, 2004 07:35 AMThere is a rich tradition associated with the BOD that all of us readers must understand. Team Batgirl was gracious enough to allow us to have representation in this great contest, but the intention was always to give preference to a claimed boyfriend whenever one's preformance could justify the award. This was made quite clear to us from the outset. While Lohse is certainly the MVP, he is not the BOD. Why? Because the BODSHC said so.
"The BODSHC rules absolutely. She awards the coveted BOD to whichever Boyfriend most contributes to the Twins victory. She does not tolerate whining, or talkback..."

I'm deeply touched.
Sincerely, Batgirl
Posted by: Batgirl at July 8, 2004 06:17 PMI understand that Bat-girl has the final say in the B.O.D., I'm just saying I disagree with her choice. Really, it leaves me wondering what Lohse would have to do to get the nod from Bat-girl.
I just *know* that he drove home as fast as his HumVee could take him (stopping for gas twice along the way) so he could see if the lovely and talented Bat-girl saw what he did, convinced he'd won her approval. Imagine his disappointment when he got home and booted up his computer, not even bothering to take off his shoes first or check the mail, only to see it was given to someone else.
What should have been the icing on the shutout cake turned out to be a plain devil's food cake. Yeah, it's still good, but it's kinda dry and he wishes he at least had a glass of milk to wash it down. Bat-girl, will you give Kyle his glass of milk, or do Mimiru and I need to call Rumsfield?
Yours in rambling nonsense,
Skorch
Posted by: Skorch at July 8, 2004 08:45 PMDearest Mr. Skorch,
Your story has touched Batgirl's heart. Perhaps it's too little, too late, but let me give Lohse an honorable Boyfriend mention. Lohse was, after all, Batgirl's pitching boyfriend.
Sincerely,
Batgirl
