The Island is Calling

When she learned that patriotic icon and BG-community fav Lee Greenwood would be performing at Treasure Island Resort & Casino on May 30th, Batgirl sent her team immediately into action. We gassed-up, washed and waxed, and generally neatened the Batbus to get it ready for the first Batgirl Readership Outing--that's right, we're all going to Redwing to stand up with Lee. We can offer up a snappy salute just like T.C. Bear on the Jumbo-tron. Come, one and all!

Now, we just need to arrange for food and other supplies for the trip. We’ll need entrees, snacks, desserts, drinks, and so on. Please chime in and tell everybody what you’ll be bringing. Be careful; too much sugar makes Goober wiggy.

I despise the LG opus. As a Twins season ticket holder (20 game package which you can still purchase)for the past four years, they have completely ruined the seventh-inning strech.I am three-four with the opus.
Two treeeee-mendous LG stories.
1. Woman attends game with her family. Woman purchases foam #1 finger. Woman wears foam finger the entire game. Woman repeatedly and frantically salutes with foam finger during song. We look for her at every game. No luck on a repeat performance.
2. Group singing the seventh-inning stretch, Disabled Veterans of Minnesota. Nice. Classy of the Twins. They sing. Good. LG comes on. Much singing much swaying. Twins camera pans to the wheelchair bound Disabled Veterns of Minnesota. LG comes to the portion of the song where he bellows "STAND UP....." I wanted to weep.

If they can be delivered in time, I will be bringing some of those snazzy Bose noise-cancelling headphones. I'll put on my eddie from ohio CD and go to my happy place.

I'll bring four Dome Dogs. At some point between St. Paul and Red Wing I'll announce the Hormel Row of Fame.
Will you be a Weiner Winner?
Will you?

I'll be in charge of the Twins Trivia game to pass the time. Every answer will be "Kirby Puckett".

I was at the game Friday night and was actually called upon to be a contestant in the middle of the 6th inning. My first (of potentially four) was "Who was the last Twin to be awarded the AL MVP." The choices were Dan Gladden, Dan Ford, Rod Carew, and Kirby Puckett. My gut reaction was Rod Carew but I went with Kirby, and wound up looking like an idiot in front of 30,000 people.

Skorch: I went with Kirby too, and sympathized heavily with the cutie on the big screen.

Oh, and that was the second time I've seen someone ousted on the first question. So do not feel bad, feel mighty for being jumbo-tronned!

Curse of the middle-infielders on you JEB! I have the Hormel Row of Fame song running through my head!

Great for lunch, great for dinner!

The Hormel Row of Fame was just one row to the left of mine when I went to the game on Saturday. In other words, in about fifty plus games, I've come closer to catching a free hot dog than a foul ball.

My time will come.

Kangaroo-
Don't feel bad. It took me 12 years of attending Twins games to catch a foul ball, whereas it only took me 8 years to be in the Hormel Row of Fame.
Don't worry, your time will come.

On behalf of vegetarians everywhere, I was a-wonderin' what would Batgirl do (WWBD) if she was seated in the Hormel Row of Fame? How would she handle being a wiener winner?

Posted by: RonDavis at May 24, 2004 05:36 PM

I'll bring the benadryl. I discovered yesterday that it can make you sleep through anything.

Posted by: wendy at May 24, 2004 09:42 PM

Dear Mr. Davis,

That is an excellent question. Batgirl, while she does not eat wieners, does enjoy winning. She never catches a foul ball, she never gets TC Bear's t-shirts, she and Jeb never get on the kiss cam, and she totally blows at Twingo, so if she were a wiener winner, she would stand up (!) on her seat and scream, I AM A WIENER WINNER. Then she would probably pass her hot dog to Sooz.

Sincerely,
Batgirl

p.s. For the Island outing, Batgirl will be bringing tofu dogs.

Thanks, She-Ra! I feel much better now. :-D

*Skorch blushes and grins goofily*

Dear Mr. Skorch and Ms. Ra,

Batgirl is extremely touched by your Bat-encounter. You two should have a lot to talk about on the bus to Treasure Island.

Affectionately,
Batgirl

I will bring a potato and broccoli hotdish, in the hope that all the vegetarians in the house will a.) raise their hands in the air and b.) wave them like they just don't care.

Posted by: kw at May 25, 2004 12:26 PM

Oh Batgirl! You can't go see Lee Greenwood, you just can't! It will break my heart and make me cry, and you wouldn't want that, would you? Would you?

sniffle sniffle

When Brother Greenwood stands up to bless the USA, may I humbly suggest the road trippers reply with a chorus from Funky Dollar Bill:

It'll buy a war
It will save a land
It pollutes this air
In the name of wealth
It'll buy you life
But not true life
The kind of life
Where the soul is hard
My name is dollar bill

From "Free Your Mind and Your Ass Will Follow" Funkadelic 1971.

I've been really busy at work. Ok, still am, but I check in and find out there's a trip scheduled? Without me?? What time is the trip on Saturday? I have a birthday party to attend, but .. if it's after that, I can bring leftover cake or maybe party favors or ... something.

Dear Mr. P,

There is no trip without you. See you on the bus!

Love,
Batgirl
